Equip Alternatives in 2026: 10 Tools for Skills Tests, Live AI Interviews and Sourcing
By Sparsh Goyal, Founder at The Cognitive. Published · Last updated
- The best Equip alternative in 2026 is The Cognitive for a live AI video interview plus sourcing, followed by TestGorilla as the closest swap, Testlify for the biggest test library, HackerRank for developers and Glider AI for fraud-heavy hiring.
- The Cognitive marks up to 5 resume claims VERIFIED, REFUTED or UNCLEAR and finds new candidates across ~900M public profiles; it is not a test library, so pair it with one where you need marked tests.
- Pick Canditech for job simulations, iMocha for enterprise skills data, Criteria for aptitude and personality, Vervoe for audited work samples and HireVue for enterprise volume.
- I run The Cognitive. The other 9 are judged from their own websites, read on 4 October 2026.
The best Equip alternative in 2026 is The Cognitive if you want a live, two-way AI video interview that checks up to 5 resume claims and a way to find new candidates, with TestGorilla as the closest swap if you mainly want Equip's tests. Equip.co bundles tests, AI interviews and an ATS. The Cognitive covers sourcing and the first interview, and pairs with a test tool.
The pressure behind this search is volume. Gem's 2026 recruiting benchmarks, drawn from 1.2 million hires, found recruiters handling 93% more applications than in 2021. Equip tests and interviews everyone who applies, inside its own ATS. Teams usually leave because they need people who never applied, or a tool that plugs into the ATS they already pay for.
The best Equip alternatives and competitors in 2026
- The Cognitive: best for a live AI video interview with resume claim checks, plus sourcing.
- TestGorilla: best like-for-like Equip swap, with tests, AI interviews and a sourcing product.
- Testlify: best for a very large test library and 100+ ATS integrations.
- HackerRank: best for developer hiring at depth.
- Glider AI: best for staffing firms and enterprises that worry about candidate fraud.
- Canditech: best for job simulations inside the ATS you already use.
- iMocha: best for enterprises that want hiring tests and workforce skills data from one vendor.
- Criteria: best for aptitude and personality tests with an AI voice interview add-on.
- Vervoe: best for work-sample tests graded by an outside-audited AI.
- HireVue: best for large employers hiring at hourly and campus volume.
Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive. Ranking it first is my judgment, for a reason you can check: it runs a live, two-way AI video interview that marks up to 5 resume claims VERIFIED, REFUTED or UNCLEAR, and the same account searches ~900M public profiles for people who haven't applied. TestGorilla also pairs outside search with AI interviews that ask follow-ups, on a free self-serve plan, so I make no "only" claim. After #1 the order is my judgment of how well each tool covers what an Equip buyer needs. I haven't used the other 9 on a paid account. What I say about them comes from their own websites, read on 4 October 2026.
What is Equip.co, and why do teams look for an alternative?
Equip calls itself "a candidate shortlisting platform". Its FAQ lists 4 parts: an AI-native applicant tracking system (ATS), CV screening with a job-fit score, skill assessments, and AI interviews in one-way and conversational formats.
The tests cover quizzes across 100+ skills, coding in 18 languages, English graded on the CEFR scale, DISC and Big Five personality tests for hiring, SQL, Excel, CSS and typing, from a bank of 10,000+ questions. Proctoring on every plan watches camera, mic and screen, and can pair the candidate's phone as a second camera.
The conversational AI interview is the part most buyers compare. Equip describes it as "Conversational. Agentic. Video + Voice." Its FAQ says these "are live, spoken conversations where the AI asks follow-ups based on what the candidate actually says", running roughly 15 to 45 minutes in around 100 languages. Candidates can share a screen for coding or whiteboarding.
Equip assesses applicants and past applicants, and its FAQ says it never contacts candidates on its own, so it won't fill an empty pipeline. If you keep another ATS, Equip connects through its REST APIs or links you send by hand.
How do the top Equip competitors compare?
Here is how they stack up. I filled in every cell from the vendor's own site on 4 October 2026:
| Tool | Best for | Tests | AI interview (vendor's words) | Finds people outside your database? | Price on website? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Equip | The tool you're leaving | 10,000+ questions, coding, CEFR, psychometric | "Live, spoken conversations" with follow-ups | No | Yes |
| The Cognitive | Live interview plus sourcing | None; pair with a test tool | Live, two-way AI video interview, 10 or 20 minutes | Yes, ~900M public profiles | Yes |
| TestGorilla | Like-for-like swap | 350+ tests | AI interviewer asks "dynamic follow-up questions in the moment" | Yes, Gorilla Sourcing | Yes |
| Testlify | Biggest library | 3,500+ tests | Video, audio and chat, with "intelligent follow-ups" | No | Yes, except Custom |
| HackerRank | Developer hiring | Coding tests, agentic IDE | Chakra, "an agentic interviewer" | Its developer database, for customers | Couldn't load |
| Glider AI | Fraud-heavy hiring | Skills tests with ID checks | "Context-aware questions and natural follow-ups" | Yes, via AI recruiting agents | No |
| Canditech | Job simulations | 500+ tests | None; one-way video | No | Team and Pro only |
| iMocha | Enterprise skills data | 10,000+ assessments | "AI interviews" listed, format not described | No | No |
| Criteria | Aptitude and personality | Cognitive, personality, skills | "AI-conducted voice interview", add-on | No | No |
| Vervoe | Audited work samples | AI-graded job simulations | "Chatbot-style questions" | No | No |
| HireVue | Enterprise volume | Skills and game-based | "Dynamic, voice-based interviews" | No | No |
How did we rank these Equip alternatives?
I started with 11 tools, including TestGorilla, HackerRank and iMocha, which Equip itself names on its compare pages, and kept 9 plus The Cognitive. Xobin came off because every module is "Contact Sales" and I couldn't confirm what its sourcing searches. Willo came off because it sells one-way video only.
I read each vendor's product and pricing pages on 4 October 2026 and judged them on 4 criteria: which parts of Equip it replaces, whether its interviewer follows up, whether you can sign up yourself at a published price, and whether it finds candidates who haven't applied. I couldn't sit a test or interview on the other tools, so I make no claim about anyone's scoring accuracy.
How do you choose an Equip alternative?
Which part of Equip are you actually replacing?
Teams that lean on the tests should look at TestGorilla, Testlify or Canditech. Teams that mainly use the conversational interview should compare The Cognitive, TestGorilla and Glider AI. If you run your whole pipeline in Equip's ATS, budget for a new ATS as well, since none of the 10 below is one. Our applicant tracking system pricing guide shows how ATS vendors charge.
Is the problem too many applicants, or too few?
Gem found only 8% of applicants get past the first screen, roughly one hire per 200 applications. If that describes you, a test early in the funnel earns its keep. If your roles get a handful of weak applicants, testing them harder won't help. Gem also found sourced candidates are nearly 8 times more likely to be hired than inbound applicants, which is why The Cognitive starts with a search across ~900M public profiles.
How deep does the first interview need to go?
Equip's conversational interview already follows up on answers, so judge an alternative on what its report gives you. The Cognitive scores each criterion 1 to 5, adds overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100 and a suggested verdict, and checks the resume against what the candidate said.
How do you want cheating handled?
Equip turns proctoring violations into a Trust Score. Glider AI adds ID verification, and HackerRank matches the face from the test to the face in the interview. The Cognitive logs integrity flags such as tab switches and camera off but doesn't score them, so a human decides what a flag means.
Will it fit the ATS you keep?
Outside ATSs connect to Equip through its REST APIs. Testlify lists 100+ ATS integrations on every plan and Canditech 40+. The Cognitive connects to 60+ ATSs, including Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workday, and writes a note with the score, summary and report link back to candidates imported from your ATS.
The 10 best Equip alternatives, reviewed
1. The Cognitive: best for a live AI video interview with resume claim checks, plus sourcing
The Cognitive is AI recruiting software that sources candidates across ~900M public profiles and interviews them live with AI. Against Equip, you give up tests and an ATS, and you gain a search for new people plus an interview report that checks the resume.
You start with a role brief in plain English, and The Cognitive reads it into filters you can edit. Our test brief, "Senior backend engineer with 5+ years of Go who has built payments systems, Remote EU", came back with a "Remote EU" filter read as Germany plus 7 other countries. Each result card opens with a "Why this match" line giving 1 or 2 reasons traced to the profile. You can reveal verified emails and phone numbers, and on the Sourcing Pro plan run email and SMS sequences.
You can invite any number of candidates in one go. They book their own slot with no account, and the invitation tells them the interview is run by AI. The interview is live, two-way and on video, 10 or 20 minutes long, in any of 9 languages. The rubric stays fixed for the role, and the questions adapt to what each candidate says.
The 5-minute recording above is a live AI interview for a go-to-market role. The AI asks about an outbound email campaign, then follows up on reply rates and how leads were qualified.
The report gives a 1 to 5 score per criterion, overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the transcript and the recording. Up to 5 resume claims the AI chose to probe come back VERIFIED, REFUTED or UNCLEAR, with the evidence from the interview. Nothing is rejected automatically. You can share a read-only link with scores, feedback and recording, without the transcript.
Equip does some things better: it interviews in around 100 languages to our 9, and candidates can write code mid-interview. The Cognitive has no coding editor and no one-way mode. People you source in The Cognitive aren't written into your ATS automatically.
Pick it if the slow part of your hiring is finding people and running the first interview, and you're happy to keep a test tool for marked skills. AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans you can cancel anytime. See our AI interviewer and AI sourcing pages.

2. TestGorilla: best like-for-like Equip swap, with tests, AI interviews and a sourcing product
TestGorilla brands itself "the proof-first AI recruiting platform", and it covers the most Equip ground on this list. Its AI interviews "feel like a live call", with an AI avatar or interviewer that "asks dynamic follow-up questions in the moment". Candidates take them on their own time.
Gorilla Sourcing searches 900M+ profiles, according to TestGorilla, including 3M+ people who've sat one of its tests, and lets you email them from a connected mailbox. The pricing page prices Sourcing per seat and Assessments per account, each with a free plan, and lists 350+ tests. AI interviews are charged in credits per candidate, and custom AI interviews need the Plus plan. Our TestGorilla alternatives guide reviews it in full.
The trade-off against Equip is the ATS. TestGorilla keeps one pipeline per role, but I found no job posting or offer letters on the pages I read.
Pick it if you want Equip's test-plus-interview shape from a bigger vendor and you already have an ATS.
3. Testlify: best for a very large test library and 100+ ATS integrations
Testlify calls itself an "AI-native skills assessment and interviewing platform" and lists 3,500+ tests. Its interviews run by video, audio or chat, are scored by AI, and include "intelligent follow-ups".
Its pricing is close to Equip's model: one credit per candidate, spent when the candidate starts. Plans are monthly or annual, there's a 7-day free trial with no card, and 100+ ATS integrations come on every plan. It doesn't search for new candidates.
Pick it if you liked paying per candidate in Equip but need more tests and a ready-made link to your ATS.
4. HackerRank: best for developer hiring at depth
HackerRank is the specialist pick. Its AI interviewer, Chakra, "runs the whole screen", flags suspicious behavior and "scores every answer with evidence". The interview product adds Scorecard Assist, which fills the rubric from transcripts, code and test cases, and a Screen-to-Interview Identity Match that compares faces.
HackerRank says its community passes 30 million developers, and customers get "access to our database of AI-fluent builders". The homepage offers a free trial. Its pricing page wouldn't load for me on 4 October 2026, so I can't tell you how it charges. For more coding-first options, see our technical interview software comparison.
Pick it if most of your hires are engineers and you want coding depth Equip's 18-language editor doesn't reach.
5. Glider AI: best for staffing firms and enterprises that worry about candidate fraud
Glider AI, now owned by Findem, pairs skills tests with ID checks and AI proctoring. Its AI video interviews ask "context-aware questions and natural follow-ups", and candidates record on their own time. The homepage lists "AI recruiting agents to source, outreach, answer questions, and run phone screens autonomously".
The pricing page is a demo form. Our Glider AI alternatives guide covers the fraud angle in depth.
Pick it if you place contractors at scale and identity fraud costs you more than the software does.
6. Canditech: best for job simulations inside the ATS you already use
Canditech sells itself as "The Skill Assessment Platform for the AI-age", with 500+ tests and job simulations. Candidates can use Claude, ChatGPT and Codex inside a test. It connects to 40+ ATSs.
Video is one-way, and Canditech says plainly that it "doesn't replace interviews". Its pricing depends on candidates assessed per year, billed yearly, with prices shown for Team and Pro and a free start. Our Canditech alternatives page reviews it in full.
Pick it if you want Equip-style tests with richer simulations and no AI interviewer.
7. iMocha: best for enterprises that want hiring tests and workforce skills data from one vendor
iMocha now calls itself a "Skills and Work Intelligence Platform". For hiring it lists "role-based assessments, AI interviews, coding evaluations, communication tests, and proctoring", from 10,000+ assessments. The same skills data feeds workforce planning for current employees.
Its pricing page is a demo request. Its site doesn't describe whether the AI interview is live or recorded, so check that on a demo.
Pick it if HR wants one skills record from first test to internal promotion.
8. Criteria: best for aptitude and personality tests with an AI voice interview add-on
Criteria covers cognitive aptitude, personality, emotional intelligence and skills, and says it is "Trusted by 4,000 customers". Its AI interview is a voice conversation in the browser that "probes only when it needs to", and candidates can answer by voice or chat.
All 3 packages on the plans page say "Request Pricing", and the AI Interview Agent comes in an add-on.
Pick it if you hire on general aptitude more than on role-specific skills.
9. Vervoe: best for work-sample tests graded by an outside-audited AI
Vervoe says its platform "simulates day-to-day work and scores candidates instantly", with spreadsheet tasks, coding, presentations and video answers. Its AI is "independently audited for fairness and bias by Holistic AI", an outside audit I didn't find on Equip's site.
Screening runs through "chatbot-style questions" rather than a spoken interview. The pricing page says "Request pricing".
Pick it if your legal team wants a published outside audit of the grading AI.
10. HireVue: best for large employers hiring at hourly and campus volume
HireVue combines skills and game-based assessments with an AI Interviewer that "conducts dynamic, voice-based interviews".
The pricing page has no figures and is aimed "From mid-market to enterprise". Our HireVue review covers the product, and the HireVue alternatives guide lists who else runs volume interviews.
Pick it if you hire thousands a year and procurement wants one enterprise contract.
Which Equip alternative runs a live AI interview?
The Cognitive is the Equip alternative to pick for a live, two-way AI video interview with resume claim checks, in a self-serve account at a published price. Equip's conversational interview is also live and spoken, so the gap is the report and the sourcing. The others:
- Self-serve, with follow-ups: TestGorilla (AI avatar) and Testlify (video, audio or chat).
- Through a demo or quote: Glider AI (video), HackerRank (Chakra), Criteria (voice add-on) and HireVue (voice).
- No AI interviewer: Canditech uses one-way video, and Vervoe screens by chat.
For how proctoring compares, see our guide to AI interview cheating detection.
How does Equip compare with TestGorilla, Canditech and Glider AI?
Equip vs TestGorilla
Both sell tests and AI interviews that follow up, both publish prices, and both let you start free. Equip includes a full ATS with job posts, a careers page and offer letters, plus a CEFR English test and phone-camera proctoring. TestGorilla adds Gorilla Sourcing to find people who haven't applied, and I found no ATS of its own on the pages I read.
Equip vs Canditech
Canditech is a test platform first, with 500+ tests, job simulations and AI tools inside the test. Equip adds what Canditech leaves out: a conversational AI interviewer and its own ATS. Canditech's 40+ ATS integrations suit teams that won't move their pipeline.
Equip vs Glider AI
Glider AI is built for enterprises and staffing firms, with ID verification, AI recruiting agents that source and run phone screens, and a demo-only sales process. Equip is self-serve and priced per candidate. Choose Glider AI if fraud and contractor volume drive the decision.
Do you need a skills assessment plus an AI interview?
A skills assessment is a marked task, such as a coding problem, a SQL query or an English test, that measures one skill the same way for everyone. An AI interview is a spoken conversation scored against a rubric, which shows how someone explains their work. Both sit under the wider heading of pre-employment assessment. Equip sells both in one account.
You can get the same pairing from 2 tools. Gem found interviews per hire are up 33% since 2021, so the interview is where hours pile up. Keep a test tool such as TestGorilla, Testlify or Canditech for skills you can mark, then send the people who pass to a live interview in The Cognitive. Our talent assessment tools compared guide helps with the test side.
Is Equip any good? An honest Equip review
I haven't used Equip on a paid account, so this comes from its site, read on 4 October 2026. For a small or mid-sized team without an ATS, the bundle is strong: job posts, CV ranking, proctored tests and a conversational AI interview, on self-serve monthly plans. The interview report adds per-topic scores, the transcript and the recording. Equip says it holds SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001.
The limits are about reach. It doesn't search for candidates outside your applicants, and it doesn't email them unless you trigger it. Outside ATSs connect through its API instead of a ready-made integration. Funnel analytics and candidate rediscovery only come on the top plan.
How much does Equip cost, and how do the alternatives charge?
Equip publishes its prices. It sells 3 plans, Standard, Premium and Elite, billed monthly or annually, and each adds a set of credits every month. CV screening and the ATS cost no credits. Tests and AI interviews are charged per candidate: each test counts separately, and a conversational interview costs more than a one-way one. New teams get a 30-day free trial with 10 free credits and no card.
TestGorilla, Testlify and Canditech also publish prices; TestGorilla and Testlify charge in credits, and Canditech prices by candidates per year. HackerRank's pricing page didn't load for me. Glider AI, iMocha, Criteria, Vervoe and HireVue sell by quote.
The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month. A search costs 1 credit per candidate it returns, 5 to reveal an email and 10 to reveal a phone number, and a reveal is charged only when a value comes back.
Who is The Cognitive built for?
The Cognitive is built for in-house recruiters, founders and agency recruiters who need more of the right candidates and want the first interview off their calendar.
- Pair it with a test tool. Keep Equip's assessments, or use TestGorilla, Testlify or Canditech, for marked skills tests.
- Keep your ATS. The Cognitive connects to 60+ ATSs and writes the score, summary and report link back to candidates you imported.
- Agencies keep their client process. Send the read-only report link with each candidate you put forward.
How do you test an Equip alternative before you switch?
Pick 1 live role you currently run in Equip. Send the same shortlist through the alternative and compare completion rate, how many people you'd still meet, and recruiter hours spent before a hiring manager saw anyone. The Cognitive has a free trial with 100 sourcing credits, so you can run a real search on that role.

Yes. The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes in 9 languages, with a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the transcript and the recording. TestGorilla and Testlify also run AI interviews that follow up on answers, and Glider AI, HackerRank, Criteria and HireVue sell AI interviews through a demo or quote.
Who are Equip.co's main competitors?
Equip's main competitors are TestGorilla, Testlify, HackerRank, Canditech and iMocha for skills tests, and Glider AI, Criteria and HireVue for tests plus AI interviews at enterprise scale. The Cognitive competes on the interview and sourcing side, with a live AI video interview and a search across ~900M public profiles. Equip itself names HackerRank, HackerEarth, TestGorilla, iMocha and Mettl on its compare pages.
Equip vs TestGorilla: which is better?
Equip is better if you also want an ATS, and TestGorilla is better if you want to find candidates who haven't applied. Both sell tests and AI interviews that ask follow-up questions, both publish prices, and both let you start free. If your gap is the first interview and sourcing rather than tests, The Cognitive adds both to whichever test tool you keep.
Equip vs Canditech: what's the difference?
Equip runs tests, a conversational AI interviewer and its own ATS, while Canditech is a test platform with 500+ tests and job simulations and no AI interviewer. Canditech connects to 40+ ATSs and prices by candidates assessed per year. Equip sells monthly or annual plans that add credits each month.
Equip vs Glider AI: which should I choose?
Choose Glider AI if you are an enterprise or staffing firm where identity fraud drives the decision, and Equip if you want to sign up yourself today. Glider AI adds ID verification and AI recruiting agents that source and run phone screens, and it sells through a demo. Equip publishes its prices and charges per candidate in credits.
How much does Equip cost?
Equip publishes its prices on monthly or annual Standard, Premium and Elite plans, each adding credits every month. CV screening and the ATS cost no credits, while tests and AI interviews are charged per candidate in credits, with conversational interviews costing more than one-way ones. New teams get a 30-day free trial with 10 free credits. The Cognitive's AI Interview starts at $99/month.
Is Equip any good?
Equip is a strong all-in-one pick for teams without an ATS, judged from its own site: job posts, CV ranking, proctored tests and a conversational AI interview in one self-serve account. Its limits are reach: it doesn't search for candidates outside your applicants, outside ATSs connect through its API, and funnel analytics sit on its top plan. I have not used it on a paid account.
What tools combine skills assessments and AI interviews?
Equip, TestGorilla and Testlify combine skills tests and AI interviews in one self-serve account, and Glider AI, iMocha, Criteria and HireVue do it through a sales process. You can also pair tools: keep a test platform for marked skills and send the people who pass to a live AI interview in The Cognitive, where you can invite any number of candidates in one go.
Can I use The Cognitive with Equip?
Yes. Keep Equip for proctored tests and send the candidates who pass to a live AI interview in The Cognitive, or use The Cognitive to find new candidates before they reach your tests. The Cognitive has no test library, so the two cover different steps.
