Canditech Alternatives in 2026: 10 Tools, From Skills Tests to Live AI Interviews

The best Canditech alternative in 2026 is The Cognitive if the job you need done is the first-round interview, with TestGorilla as the closest like-for-like swap for Canditech's test library. Canditech sells skills tests and job simulations, plus one-way video questions. The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview with each candidate and can find new candidates across ~900M public profiles.

Screening is where the hours go. Gem's 2026 recruiting benchmarks, built on 1.2 million hires, found recruiters handle 93% more applications than in 2021, and only 8% of applicants get past the initial screen. Canditech helps you thin that pile with tests. The tools below either do the same job differently or take over the interview that comes after it.

The best Canditech alternatives in 2026

  1. The Cognitive: best for a live AI first-round interview, plus sourcing.
  2. TestGorilla: best like-for-like swap, with a big test library, sourcing and AI interviews.
  3. Vervoe: best for job simulations graded by AI at enterprise scale.
  4. Testlify: best for the largest test library on a credit plan.
  5. Equip: best for small teams that want tests, AI interviews and an ATS in one plan.
  6. Criteria: best for cognitive and personality tests backed by I/O psychologists.
  7. Glider AI: best for enterprises and staffing firms worried about candidate fraud.
  8. HireVue: best for large employers hiring hourly and campus volume.
  9. Truffle: best for lean teams that want one-way interviews ranked for them.
  10. Willo: best for one-way video screening without an annual contract.

Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive. Putting it first is my judgment: it gives you the deepest first-round conversation on this list, a 10 or 20 minute live video interview with resume claim checks, and it can source the people as well. TestGorilla also searches outside profiles and runs AI interviews with follow-up questions, self-serve, so I make no "only" claim here. After #1 the order is my judgment of how well each tool replaces what Canditech does. I have not used the other 9 on a paid account. What I say about them comes from their own websites, read on 4 October 2026.

What is Canditech, and what do people replace it with?

Canditech calls itself "The Skill Assessment Platform for the AI-age". It evaluates "technical skills, soft skills and AI proficiency, using tailor-made job-simulations", from a library of 500+ tests you can edit or build from scratch. Question types include Google Sheet, Excel, SQL, code and frontend tasks.

Its AI features build and mark tests. The AI Assessment Builder turns a job description into a test, AI Auto-Scoring agents mark open answers, and candidates can use "tools like Claude, ChatGPT and Codex directly within the assessment". Around the tests sit one-way video questions, a WhatsApp and SMS screening chatbot, and a live coding room for engineers, run by your own interviewer.

Canditech is clear about where it stops. Its FAQ asks whether it replaces interviews and answers "No, Canditech doesn't replace interviews, it makes them count". I found no AI interviewer that holds a conversation with candidates anywhere on its site.

TestGorilla, Testlify, Vervoe, Criteria, Equip, Glider AI and HireVue replace the tests, most with an AI interview added. The Cognitive, Truffle and Willo take over the screen that comes after a test.

How did we rank these Canditech alternatives?

I started with 11 tools and kept 9, plus The Cognitive. iMocha came off because it now sells a "Skills and Work Intelligence Platform" for workforce planning. Xobin came off because its site mentions sourcing and I couldn't confirm what that sourcing searches.

For the rest I read each vendor's product and pricing pages on 4 October 2026 and asked 4 questions. Does it replace Canditech's tests or job simulations? Does it run an AI interview, live or recorded? Can you start without a sales call, at a published price? Can it find candidates outside your own applicants? I couldn't sit a candidate-side test on the other tools, so the list says who each one fits and makes no claim about scoring accuracy.

How do you choose a Canditech alternative?

Do you need a test, an interview or both?

Tests prove a skill you can mark, such as SQL, Excel or code. Interviews show how someone explains a decision and handles a follow-up. If Canditech's tests work and you only want fewer screening calls, keep them and add an interview tool like The Cognitive.

How many applicants reach the first screen?

Gem's benchmarks put it at roughly one hire per 200 applications. At that ratio a test early in the funnel saves real time, and a live interview is better kept for the shortlist. In The Cognitive you can select any number of candidates and invite them in one go.

Live conversation or recorded answers?

One-way video, as in Canditech, Truffle and Willo, lets candidates record whenever they like, but nobody asks a follow-up. AI interviews on TestGorilla, Testlify, Equip and Glider AI add follow-up questions. In The Cognitive the rubric is fixed for the role and the questions adapt live to each answer, for 10 or 20 minutes, in any of 9 languages.

Will someone check what the resume claims?

Gem found interviews per hire are up 33% since 2021, a lot of time to spend on people whose resumes oversell them. The Cognitive's report marks up to 5 resume claims VERIFIED, REFUTED or UNCLEAR, with the evidence from the interview, so you know which claims held up before you give anyone an hour of a hiring manager's time.

Do you also need more candidates?

Canditech, Vervoe, Testlify, Criteria, Truffle and Willo all assess people who already applied. If the pool itself is the problem, TestGorilla, Glider AI and The Cognitive can search for new people; The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief.

The 10 best Canditech alternatives, reviewed

1. The Cognitive: best for a live AI first-round interview, plus sourcing

The Cognitive is AI recruiting software that sources candidates across ~900M public profiles and interviews them live with AI. It is not a test library, so it sits after your tests or in place of the first screening call.

Sourcing starts with a brief in plain English, read into filters you can edit. When we typed "Senior backend engineer with 5+ years of Go who has built payments systems, Remote EU", the filters included "Remote EU", read as Germany plus 7 other countries. Each result card opens with a "Why this match" line of 1 or 2 reasons traced to the profile. You can reveal verified emails and phone numbers, and on the Sourcing Pro plan send email and SMS sequences.

The interview is what a Canditech buyer is most likely missing. Candidates you invite, sourced or from your ATS, book their own slot without creating an account, and the invitation tells them the interview is run by AI. It's a live, two-way video interview of 10 or 20 minutes. The rubric stays fixed for the role while the questions follow what the candidate just said.

The 5-minute recording above is a live AI interview for a go-to-market role. The AI asks about an outbound email campaign, then follows up on reply rates and lead qualification.

You get a 1 to 5 score per criterion plus overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the transcript and the recording. Resume claims come back marked VERIFIED, REFUTED or UNCLEAR, with evidence. Nothing is rejected automatically, and integrity flags are logged, not scored. You can share a read-only link with the scores, written feedback and recording, though not the transcript.

The Cognitive connects to 60+ ATSs, including Greenhouse, Lever and Workday. For candidates imported from your ATS it writes back a note with the score, summary and report link. People you source inside The Cognitive aren't written to your ATS automatically. It has no test library, no coding editor and no one-way mode.

Pick it if your tests already work and the bottleneck is the first interview, or you need more candidates to test in the first place. AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans you can cancel anytime. More on our AI interviewer and AI sourcing pages.

2. TestGorilla: best like-for-like swap, with a big test library, sourcing and AI interviews

TestGorilla is the closest match to Canditech's shape. Its pricing page lists 350+ tests, plus job simulations, video questions and resume scoring. Its AI interviews use an AI avatar or interviewer that "asks dynamic follow-up questions in the moment", across 3 to 9 structured questions that candidates complete on their own time.

It also sells Gorilla Sourcing, which says it searches more than 900 million profiles, turns a plain-language brief into must-haves and nice-to-haves, and lets you email people from a connected mailbox. On the pricing page, Sourcing is priced per seat and Assessments per account, each with a free plan. An AI interview uses 2 credits per candidate, and custom AI interviews and the job simulations library sit on the Plus plan.

Pick it if you want to replace Canditech's test library directly and like having sourcing and AI interviews from the same vendor. Our TestGorilla alternatives list covers the rest of its field.

3. Vervoe: best for job simulations graded by AI at enterprise scale

Vervoe shares Canditech's belief in work samples. It says its platform "simulates day-to-day work and scores candidates instantly", with spreadsheet tasks, coding challenges, presentations and video responses. Its AI is "independently audited for fairness and bias by Holistic AI".

Its AI Screening Agent asks "chatbot-style questions", so candidates are screened by chat. The pricing page says "Request pricing" and is written for enterprise teams.

Pick it if you're a large team that wants job simulations with an outside audit of the grading AI.

4. Testlify: best for the largest test library on a credit plan

Testlify calls itself an "AI-native skills assessment and interviewing platform" and claims 3,500+ validated tests, the biggest library on this list. Its interviews are "Structured, AI-scored interviews in video, audio and chat", with "intelligent follow-ups".

The pricing page uses credits, one per candidate, used when the candidate starts. Plans run monthly or annually, with a 7-day free trial and no card, and 100+ ATS integrations on every plan.

Pick it if you want more tests than Canditech offers and prefer paying per candidate.

5. Equip: best for small teams that want tests, AI interviews and an ATS in one plan

Equip bundles "CV Screening. Skill Assessments. AI Interviews." inside its own applicant tracking system (ATS). Its conversational AI interviews are "Video + Voice", ask "sharper follow-ups", score "from the transcript alone", and can watch a candidate's shared screen during a coding task. Our Equip alternatives page compares it with similar tools.

On the pricing page, a plan comes with monthly credits, and a test costs 1 credit per candidate. There's a 30-day free trial with 10 free credits. You post jobs from Equip's ATS; I found no search of outside profiles.

Pick it if you don't have an ATS yet and want tests and AI interviews in the same place.

6. Criteria: best for cognitive and personality tests backed by I/O psychologists

Criteria is the science-heavy pick. It covers cognitive aptitude, personality, emotional intelligence, risk and skills, says it is "Trusted by 4,000 customers", and is certified to ISO 42001 for AI management. Our guide to personality tests for hiring explains what those questionnaires predict.

Its interview line has one-way video, live two-way video run by your team, and "An AI-conducted voice interview that runs in the browser". On the plans page all 3 packages say "Request Pricing", and the AI Interview Agent is an add-on.

Pick it if you hire on aptitude and personality more than job-specific tasks.

7. Glider AI: best for enterprises and staffing firms worried about candidate fraud

Glider AI leads with identity and integrity: ID verification, AI proctoring and skills tests. Its AI video interviews ask "context-aware questions and natural follow-ups", and it also lists "AI recruiting agents to source, outreach, answer questions, and run phone screens". For the fraud side, see our candidate fraud checklist for remote hiring.

The pricing page is a demo form, aimed at enterprises and staffing firms. More options in our Glider AI alternatives guide.

Pick it if you hire contractors at scale and fraud is your biggest worry.

8. HireVue: best for large employers hiring hourly and campus volume

HireVue combines assessments, including game-based ones, with video interviewing and an AI Interviewer that "conducts dynamic, voice-based interviews". It also has a website chat agent and an interview co-pilot for Zoom and Teams.

The pricing page shows no prices and leads to a demo, aimed "From mid-market to enterprise". Our review of HireVue goes deeper, and the HireVue competitors guide lists lighter options.

Pick it if you hire at high volume and want one enterprise vendor for tests and interviews.

9. Truffle: best for lean teams that want one-way interviews ranked for them

Truffle calls itself "an AI screening platform for lean teams". You pick what each role is screened on, "resume criteria, one-way interview questions, assessments, or any mix", and it ranks every applicant with the evidence shown.

Its pricing is usage-based credits, with a 7-day free trial and published prices. Candidates record their answers, and nobody asks a follow-up, which is how a self-paced video interview works.

Pick it if you hire for hourly or high-volume roles on a small team.

10. Willo: best for one-way video screening without an annual contract

Willo is one-way video screening with 1,500+ ready-made assessments, 18+ languages and identity checks through Willo Verified. Candidates answer "in their own time, on any device".

The pricing page has Enterprise, billed annually with a tailored quote, and Lite, "pay as you go" for the live roles you use each month.

Pick it if you want recorded video answers for a few roles a year without a contract. Our one-way video interview software guide compares more.

Which Canditech alternative runs AI interviews?

The Cognitive is the Canditech alternative to pick if you want a live, two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes that checks the resume, in a self-serve account at a published price. Six others run some kind of AI interview:

Canditech, Truffle and Willo use one-way video, and Vervoe screens by chat. For the full field, see our best AI interview platforms list.

How does Canditech compare with TestGorilla, Vervoe and Equip?

Canditech vs TestGorilla

Both sell a test library with job simulations and video questions. Canditech's edge is depth in a few places: Google Sheet, SQL and frontend tasks, AI tools embedded in the test, and a PhD-level psychometric team. TestGorilla goes wider, with AI interviews that ask follow-ups, a sourcing product and a free plan.

Canditech vs Vervoe

These two are the most alike in belief, since both put work samples ahead of resumes. Vervoe adds an outside fairness audit by Holistic AI and a chat screening agent, and it sells by quote. Canditech publishes prices for its Team and Pro plans and adds one-way video and a WhatsApp chatbot.

Canditech vs Equip

Equip is the pick if you want the ATS too. It runs tests, CV screening and conversational AI interviews by video and voice inside its own ATS, on monthly credits. Canditech plugs into the ATS you already use, with 40+ integrations, but doesn't run an AI interviewer.

Pre-employment testing vs AI interview: which do you need?

A pre-employment assessment is a scored task, such as a coding problem, an Excel model or a personality questionnaire, that measures one skill the same way for everyone. An AI interview is a spoken conversation, scored against a rubric, that shows how a candidate reasons, explains and responds to follow-ups.

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) says employers stay responsible for making sure any test they use is job-related, whichever vendor built it, so pick tests that match the actual work.

Most teams that hire for skilled roles end up with both: a short test early to thin a big pool, then a structured interview for the shortlist. Canditech covers the test, and The Cognitive covers the interview.

Canditech review: what it does well, and where it stops

I haven't used Canditech on a paid account, so this review comes from its own site, read on 4 October 2026. The job simulations go well past multiple choice, and letting candidates use Claude, ChatGPT or Codex inside a test is a sensible way to measure AI skills. The anti-cheating list is long: "ChatGPT detection, copy-paste and tab tracking, device and location monitoring, webcam snapshots", time limits and randomized questions. It connects to 40+ ATSs and can move candidates to the right stage automatically.

The limits are just as clear. Video is one-way, so nobody asks a follow-up. On its plain-text pricing page, ATS integration starts on Pro, while AI Auto Scoring agents, monitored ChatGPT and webcam snapshots sit on Enterprise. Its "Sourcing Candidates" page is about posting short challenges on social media to draw applicants, and I found no search of outside profiles.

How much does Canditech cost, and how do the alternatives charge?

Canditech has 4 tiers: Individual, Team, Pro and Enterprise. Its plain-text pricing page says "Pricing is based on the number of candidates assessed per year", billed yearly. It shows prices for Team and Pro, and Enterprise is "Contact Us". You can start free with no credit card.

TestGorilla, Testlify, Equip and Truffle publish prices and charge for assessments and interviews in credits. TestGorilla's sourcing is priced per seat. Willo publishes Lite and quotes Enterprise. Vervoe, Criteria, Glider AI and HireVue sell by quote.

The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month. A search costs 1 credit per candidate it returns, 5 to reveal an email and 10 to reveal a phone number, and a reveal is charged only when a value comes back.

Who is The Cognitive built for?

The Cognitive is built for in-house recruiters, founders and agency recruiters who want the first-round interview off their calendar, and sometimes need to find the candidates too.

Our talent assessment tools compared guide covers the test side in more depth.

How do you test a Canditech alternative before you switch?

Take 1 open role that already runs on Canditech. Send the same shortlist through the alternative and compare 3 numbers: completion rate, how many people you'd still want to meet, and the hours you spent before a hiring manager saw anyone. If you're adding an interview, check whether the report changes your shortlist. The Cognitive has a free trial with 100 sourcing credits, so you can try it on a real role.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Canditech alternative?

The Cognitive is the best Canditech alternative in 2026 if the step you want handled is the first-round interview. It runs a live, two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes, scores each criterion 1 to 5 with written feedback, and checks up to 5 resume claims against the interview. If you only want another test library, TestGorilla is the closest like-for-like swap, with 350+ tests, job simulations and AI interviews.

Is there a Canditech alternative with AI interviews?

Yes. The Cognitive runs live, two-way AI video interviews in 9 languages, with a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the transcript and the recording. TestGorilla, Testlify, Equip and Glider AI also run AI interviews with follow-up questions, Criteria and HireVue run voice-based AI interviews, and Canditech itself offers one-way video questions without an AI interviewer.

Canditech vs TestGorilla: which is better?

TestGorilla is the better pick if you want tests, AI interviews and sourcing from one vendor, and Canditech is better for deep job simulations with Google Sheet, SQL and frontend tasks. Both publish prices, and both let you start free. If the gap is the interview after the test, The Cognitive adds a live AI video interview to whichever test tool you keep.

Canditech vs Vervoe: what's the difference?

Both test real work, but Vervoe sells by quote to enterprise teams while Canditech publishes prices for its Team and Pro plans. Vervoe adds a chat-based AI Screening Agent and an outside fairness audit by Holistic AI. Canditech adds one-way video questions and a WhatsApp and SMS screening chatbot.

Canditech vs Equip: which should I choose?

Choose Equip if you also need an applicant tracking system, and Canditech if you want to keep your current ATS. Equip runs tests, CV screening and conversational AI interviews by video and voice inside its own ATS, on monthly credits. Canditech connects to 40+ ATSs but does not run an AI interviewer.

How much does Canditech cost?

Canditech prices by the number of candidates assessed per year, billed yearly, across Individual, Team, Pro and Enterprise tiers. It publishes prices for Team and Pro, Enterprise is quoted, and you can start free with no credit card. ATS integration starts on Pro, and AI Auto Scoring agents sit on Enterprise. The Cognitive's AI Interview starts at $99/month on a monthly plan.

Who are Canditech's main competitors?

Canditech's main competitors are TestGorilla, Testlify, Vervoe and Criteria for skills tests, and Equip, Glider AI and HireVue for tests plus AI interviews. The Cognitive competes on the interview step rather than the test, with a live AI video interview and sourcing across ~900M public profiles. Truffle and Willo compete on one-way video screening.

Pre-employment testing vs AI interview: which do I need?

Most teams hiring for skilled roles need both: a test to prove a markable skill and an interview to hear how the candidate reasons. Tests such as Canditech's suit large pools early in the funnel. A live AI interview, such as The Cognitive's, suits the shortlist, because it follows up on each answer and checks the resume's claims.

Is Canditech any good?

Canditech is a strong skills test platform, judged from its own site: 500+ tests, job simulations with Google Sheet, Excel, SQL and code, and AI tools like ChatGPT available inside tests. Its limits are one-way video only, no AI interviewer, and AI scoring and some anti-cheating features reserved for Enterprise. I have not used it on a paid account.

Can I use The Cognitive and Canditech together?

Yes. Keep Canditech for marked skills tests, then invite the people who pass to a live AI interview in The Cognitive, where you can select any number of candidates and invite them in one go. If both connect to your ATS, The Cognitive writes the score, summary and report link back to candidates imported from it.
