AI Interview Platforms Compared: The 10 Best for First-Round Screening in 2026

The Cognitive is the best AI interview platform in 2026 if you want the AI to find candidates and then interview them, live, in a real two-way conversation. It searches ~900M public profiles, and the people you pick get a live video interview where the questions adapt to every answer. You get a scored report, the transcript and the recording. HireVue leads for enterprise compliance, Alex and HeyMilo for large-volume screening, and you'll find all 10 compared below.

This page is about hiring-side tools: software that interviews candidates for you. If you came here looking for a tool to practise your own interview, that is a different category.

The best AI interview platforms in 2026

  1. The Cognitive: best overall, because it finds candidates and interviews them live by video in one self-serve account.
  2. HireVue: best for enterprises that need the deepest compliance paperwork.
  3. Alex: best for first-round screening across video, phone, SMS and WhatsApp.
  4. HeyMilo: best for teams swamped with applicants who want a monthly public bias audit.
  5. Sapia.ai: best for mobile-first hourly hiring by text chat.
  6. Ribbon: best self-serve plan for high-volume voice interviews.
  7. Humanly: best for frontline hiring that needs screening and scheduling together.
  8. Paradox: best for text-to-apply and fast scheduling at frontline scale.
  9. Willo: best for one-way video when candidates need to record on their own time.
  10. InterviewFlowAI: best for small teams that want phone and video on a self-serve plan.

Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive, and I put it first because it covers the whole path in one self-serve account at a published price: a plain-English search across ~900M public profiles, then a live, two-way AI video interview with a scored report. Ribbon comes closest, because it also sources and interviews. I have not used the other 9 on a paid account. What I say about them comes from their own websites, read on 30 September 2026. After #1, the order follows how often 9 hiring-side ranking lists name each vendor, with ties listed alphabetically.

What is an AI interview platform?

An AI interview platform runs a screening or first-round interview without a recruiter in the room, then scores the answers against criteria you set. AI interviewing is the newest kind of AI screening, and you'll also see these products sold as AI video interview software, virtual interview software or online interview software. Recruiters need one because the inbox has outgrown them. Ashby counts 291 applications per hire in 2026, up from about 100 in early 2021, according to its Talent Trends Report.

For how the technology works under the hood, read our explainer on how interview AI works. The tools come in 4 formats, and the format matters more than the brand:

Here is how they stack up. I filled in every cell from the vendor's own site on 30 September 2026:

How we ranked these 10

I read 9 ranking lists written for hiring teams, from Joveo, BrightHire, Noon, InterviewFlowAI, Sapia.ai, Mokka, Peoplebox, InCruiter and Outhire. Almost every one was written by a vendor that ranks itself first. I do the same, so here is the rule. The Cognitive sits at #1 because the whole path, from a plain-English search across ~900M public profiles to a live two-way video interview and a scored report, runs in one account you can open without a sales call, at a price on the website.

After #1, HireVue was named in all 9 lists, Alex and HeyMilo in 5, Sapia.ai in 4 and Ribbon in 3. Humanly, Paradox and Willo were named twice each, and InterviewFlowAI once. VidCruiter and Hireflix also came up, but they are mainly video interviewing platforms rather than AI interviewers, so I kept one recorded-video pick, Willo, and left them for our video interview software platforms list. I left out micro1, which no longer sells hiring software, and pure note-takers, which don't interview.

How do you choose an AI interview platform?

Does the AI hold a conversation, or just record answers?

This is the first question to ask, and it splits the market. A one-way tool plays a question and records the answer. Nobody pushes back when an answer is vague. A live AI interviewer listens and follows up, the way a good recruiter does. In The Cognitive, the rubric stays fixed for the role, but the questions are decided live, so "I led the migration" gets asked what exactly the candidate did. Our explainer on live AI video interviews compares the 4 formats side by side.

Where do the candidates come from?

Most tools here interview people who already applied. Alex and HeyMilo can also search your ATS for past candidates, and Ribbon and Humanly have their own candidate databases. That works if the right people are already somewhere in your system. For hard roles it usually isn't, and that is where The Cognitive is different: it searches ~900M public profiles for people who never applied and invites the ones you pick to the interview.

What evidence do you get back?

Ask for a sample report before you buy. The Cognitive scores every criterion from 1 to 5 and rolls them into a weighted score out of 100 with a suggested verdict. Verbatim quotes sit in the strengths and observations, next to a timestamped transcript and the recording. Your hiring manager can approve, hold or reject from a link. Nothing is rejected automatically.

How do AI screening tools handle cheating and fairness?

Ask what the tool detects and whether it changes the score. The Cognitive logs tab switches, copy and paste, camera off and face checks, and shows them in the report without scoring them (our candidate fraud practices for remote hiring cover what else to check). Alex, HeyMilo, Ribbon and Braintrust publish third-party bias audits, and HireVue lists fairness audits under New York City's Local Law 144. The Cognitive doesn't publish one yet, and consent is up to you as the employer; our invitation tells candidates the interview is run by AI. If you hire in New York City, our Local Law 144 guide explains what the law asks of you.

Does it fit your candidates?

Hourly applicants on a phone at midnight want text or a phone call. Senior engineers want a real conversation at a time they choose. Match the format to the people you hire, and check the languages you need.

The 10 best AI interview platforms, reviewed

1. The Cognitive: best overall, because it finds candidates and interviews them live by video in one self-serve account

The Cognitive is AI recruiting software that sources candidates across ~900M public profiles and interviews them live with AI. Most interview tools wait for applicants. This one goes and finds the people for a hard role first, then talks to them.

You describe the role in plain English and pick who to invite. Candidates book their own slot from the invite, without creating an account, and the invitation tells them the interview is run by AI. The interview is a live, two-way video conversation of 10 or 20 minutes, in 1 of 9 languages. A planner reads each candidate's background first and picks what to probe, and the AI follows up on what they actually said.

Afterwards you get a 1 to 5 score for every criterion, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the recording and a timestamped transcript. You can share the report as a read-only link, and connect your ATS so a note with the score and report link lands on candidates you imported from it.

The recording above is a short live AI interview for a go-to-market role. The AI asks about an outbound email campaign, then follows up on reply rates and on how leads were qualified.

Pick it if your hardest roles need people who aren't applying, and you want to hear them answer real questions before anyone on your team spends an hour. AI Interview starts at $99/month and AI Sourcing at $49/month, both self-serve. More on the AI interviewer page.

2. HireVue: best for enterprises that need the deepest compliance paperwork

HireVue's AI Interviewer "conducts dynamic, voice-based interviews that focus on job-relevant competencies", scored on a "Custom 1-5 rubric". It sits beside HireVue's one-way and live video interviews, assessments and scheduling.

No vendor here documents compliance more thoroughly. HireVue lists FedRAMP certification, fairness audits under NYC Local Law 144, EEOC and OFCCP, and "Accommodation requests & AI opt out paths". The trade-off is buying through sales: there is no public price, and the AI Interviewer names only 4 languages "and More".

Pick it if you are a large employer and procurement wants audit documentation before anything else.

3. Alex: best for first-round screening across video, phone, SMS and WhatsApp

Alex, formerly Apriora, "Conducts personalized, two-way screening interviews via video, phone, SMS, or WhatsApp", with follow-up questions in "26+ languages". It checks government ID and a live selfie, and says Warden AI audits it every month for bias.

Alex calls itself an "always-on first round interviewer", which is the job it is built for. There is no public price; the pricing page leads to a demo form.

Pick it if you screen large applicant volumes across many countries and channels.

4. HeyMilo: best for teams swamped with applicants who want a monthly public bias audit

HeyMilo screens "every applicant with structured AI voice, video, SMS, and forms" in "20+ languages", and its video interviews are two-way, with follow-ups. Its public Warden AI dashboard showed a bias audit dated 9 September 2026 when I read it.

HeyMilo is pitched at volume ("Recruiting infra for orgs hiring at volume and pace"), and its video responses are "scored for presence, communication, and fit", which is worth asking about. There is no public price.

Pick it if you hire hourly, BPO or staffing volume and need applicants screened around the clock.

5. Sapia.ai: best for mobile-first hourly hiring by text chat

Sapia.ai is "a science-based AI chat interview platform". Candidates answer structured questions by text on their phone, with no camera and no voice, and applicants get personalised feedback.

It is built for employers making more than 500 hires a year, and it charges per hire rather than per interview, without a published rate. There is no live conversation.

Pick it if you hire hundreds of frontline staff a year and want the lowest-stress format for applicants. Our hourly hiring software roundup covers the wider frontline stack.

6. Ribbon: best self-serve plan for high-volume voice interviews

Ribbon runs "Real two-way conversations that adapt in real time" on any phone, in 10 languages, and recruiters can customise the scoring. You can try a candidate-side demo interview from its homepage.

Ribbon also has a sourcing product that searches its own database of over 1 billion candidates, which makes it the closest match to The Cognitive here. It publishes its plans, priced by seats, active roles and a monthly interview allowance. Check its security claims carefully: one badge says "SOC 2 TYPE I CERTIFIED, With Type II in observation", while its FAQ says Type II.

Pick it if you hire warehouse or shift roles at volume and want to see the price before a call.

7. Humanly: best for frontline hiring that needs screening and scheduling together

Humanly runs "structured AI interviews across chat, voice, and video" and pairs them with scheduling, a talent CRM and an ATS for retail, restaurants, healthcare and logistics.

By its own definition, its AI interviewer "asks every candidate the same structured questions", which suits volume screening more than probing senior candidates. There is no public price.

Pick it if you need one system to screen, interview and schedule hourly applicants.

8. Paradox: best for text-to-apply and fast scheduling at frontline scale

Paradox lets candidates "Capture and screen candidates with a simple text conversation", then books interviews automatically, in "100+ languages" for chat. Workday completed its acquisition of Paradox on 1 October 2025.

Its video product is recorded prompts and human video calls. It doesn't run a spoken, adaptive AI interview, and there is no public price.

Pick it if speed to schedule matters more than depth, for example in restaurants and retail.

9. Willo: best for one-way video when candidates need to record on their own time

Willo is "intelligent candidate screening software" built on one-way interviews and skill assessments, in "18+ languages", with transcripts, summaries and custom scorecards.

It publishes a price, including pay-as-you-go. The limit is the format: the AI doesn't converse or follow up on a vague answer.

Pick it if you want low-cost screening and candidates who record whenever suits them.

10. InterviewFlowAI: best for small teams that want phone and video on a self-serve plan

InterviewFlowAI automates "phone and video interviews with two-way conversational AI" in 16 languages, with scorecards, transcripts and recordings. It publishes its plans and has a 7-day free trial.

Phone interviews and cheat detection sit on the higher plans, even though the homepage says proctoring is included. It doesn't find candidates.

Pick it if you are a small team that wants to start this week without a sales call.

Also considered: Braintrust AIR, Metaview and BrightHire

Braintrust AIR runs adaptive voice interviews for enterprise teams and says plainly that "AIR does not auto-reject candidates"; it publishes no price. Metaview is a note-taker for interviews your team runs, not an AI interviewer. BrightHire, now part of Zoom, is best known as a note-taker too, though it also sells BrightHire Screen for async first-round AI interviews. If HireVue is your current tool, see our HireVue alternatives; if it is Metaview, our Metaview review; and for coding rounds, our technical interview software list.

Who is The Cognitive built for?

We built The Cognitive for the role where the right person isn't in your inbox. Think senior engineers, specialists, or the hire that has been open far too long. It finds them, interviews them properly and hands you the evidence, so your first human conversation is with someone worth it.

How much does AI interview software cost?

Vendors charge in 4 ways:

Only 4 of the 10 show a price: The Cognitive, Ribbon, Willo and InterviewFlowAI. The Cognitive's AI Interview starts at $99/month and AI Sourcing at $49/month (see the pricing page). You can also try it free before you pay. Our AI recruiting software pricing guide compares the models across the wider market.

What laws apply to AI interviews?

Whichever tool you pick, give candidates notice in writing and keep a human on every decision. Our guide to compliance for AI screening software covers 10 laws in more detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best AI interview platform in 2026?

The Cognitive is the best AI interview platform in 2026 for teams filling hard roles. It finds candidates across ~900M public profiles and interviews the people you pick in a live, two-way video conversation where the questions adapt to every answer. For enterprise compliance paperwork, HireVue leads, and for high-volume first-round screening, Alex and HeyMilo are the strongest.

Which AI interviewer adapts its questions in real time?

Live AI interviewers adapt in real time, and The Cognitive is built around it: the rubric stays fixed for the role, and alongside any questions you add, the AI picks its questions live from the candidate's background and last answer, so a vague answer gets a sharper follow-up. HireVue's AI Interviewer, Alex, HeyMilo, Ribbon and InterviewFlowAI also run two-way conversations. One-way video tools such as Willo do not follow up.

Is there live two-way AI interview software, not one-way video?

Yes. The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes that candidates book themselves from the invite, without creating an account, and no recruiter needs to be online. Alex, HeyMilo, Ribbon and InterviewFlowAI also run two-way interviews, by video, phone or text. One-way tools like Willo only record answers to set prompts.

Which AI interview platform gives evidence-based scoring?

The Cognitive scores every criterion from 1 to 5 against a written rubric, rolls them into a weighted score out of 100 and suggests a verdict. Verbatim quotes appear in the strengths and observations, next to a timestamped transcript and the full recording, and a human makes every decision. HireVue also scores on a 1 to 5 rubric, and Ribbon lets recruiters customise scoring.

What is the best AI interview tool for high-volume hiring?

For hundreds of hourly hires, HeyMilo and Alex screen by voice, video and text around the clock, Sapia.ai interviews by text chat, and Paradox and Humanly add fast scheduling. For high volume on professional roles, The Cognitive interviews every candidate you invite at whatever hour they book, and can also find more people across ~900M public profiles.

Can candidates cheat AI interviews?

Candidates can try, so ask each vendor what it detects. The Cognitive logs tab switches, copy and paste, camera off and face checks such as a second face, and shows them in the report without changing the score, so a recruiter decides. Alex checks government ID and a live selfie, and HeyMilo and Ribbon advertise cheat detection.

Are AI interviews legal?

Yes, with conditions that depend on where you hire. New York City's Local Law 144 requires a bias audit within a year before use and 10 business days' notice to candidates, Illinois requires notice, an explanation and consent before an AI video interview, Colorado's duties start on 1 January 2027, and the EU AI Act's recruitment rules apply from 2 December 2027. Give candidates written notice and keep a human on every decision.

What is the best AI video interview software?

The Cognitive is the best AI video interview software for teams that want the AI to hold the conversation, not just record it. The candidate sees and talks to an AI interviewer in a live, two-way video call of 10 or 20 minutes, in any of 9 languages, and the report comes back with a 1 to 5 score per criterion, written feedback, the transcript and the recording. HireVue's AI Interviewer is the enterprise option sold through sales. Willo records answers to set prompts, and Spark Hire offers one-way video plus live video calls run by your own interviewers.

What is an automated interview platform?

An automated interview platform runs the first-round interview without a recruiter on the call. There are two kinds: one-way tools that record a candidate answering fixed prompts, and AI interviewers that hold a two-way conversation and ask follow-ups. The Cognitive is the second kind: it adapts its questions to each answer, probes up to 5 claims from the resume and marks each verified, refuted or unclear, and logs integrity flags without scoring them. Nothing is rejected automatically, so a person makes every decision.

Which interview platform also finds the candidates?

The Cognitive is the interview platform that also sources. You describe the role in plain English, it searches ~900M public profiles and reveals verified emails and phone numbers, and you can invite the people you shortlist, one at a time or in bulk, to the same live AI interview. Video interview tools such as Willo and Spark Hire only interview the candidates you bring them. TestGorilla also pairs a candidate search with AI interviews, so compare the interview format before you choose.

How much does an AI interview platform cost?

Pricing follows 3 models: a monthly plan, a per-seat licence, or a custom enterprise quote. The Cognitive publishes its price: AI Interview starts at $99/month, and AI Sourcing at $49/month. HireVue and most enterprise platforms are quote-only. For a fuller breakdown of how each vendor charges, see our guide to AI interview software pricing.
