How to Find Employees of a Company (LinkedIn, Google and More)

The Cognitive turning a plain-English brief into search filters a recruiter can edit

To find the employees of a company, start on LinkedIn. Open the company's LinkedIn Page and its People tab, or run a people search with the Current company filter, and switch to Past company for people who have left. Then widen the net with Google site: searches, the company's own website, its GitHub organization, conference speaker pages and public registers of directors. To find one person you already know, type their name and the company into LinkedIn's top search box.

LinkedIn says it has more than 1 billion members in more than 200 countries and territories, which makes it the usual first place to look. No method returns a full employee list, though. Every source shows only the people who made themselves public, and people move. The median worker had been with their current employer for 4.1 years in January 2026, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. For recruiters, The Cognitive offers a faster route. Describe the people you want in plain English, company included, and it returns ranked people from about 900M public profiles, each with a short reason for the match.

Which way of finding a company's employees fits your search?

Nine methods find a company's employees, and each covers a different slice of the staff. The People tab shows who lists the company today. Filters narrow that to a role and a city. The company's own site, GitHub and registers fill the gaps for leaders, engineers and directors.

How do you see who works at a company on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn gives two routes to a company's employees: the People tab on the company's Page, and a people search filtered by Current company. The People tab is quicker for a look around. The filtered search is better when you want one role in one place.

The company Page and its People tab

Search for the company in LinkedIn's top search box, open its Page and click People. The tab lists members who name the company on their profile. What you see of each person depends on their own visibility settings.

Browsing that tab has a cost on a free account. LinkedIn's commercial use limit page lists "viewing member profiles on the People tab of LinkedIn Pages" among the activities that count toward the limit.

People search with the Current company filter

Run any search, choose People, then open All filters. LinkedIn's help page on people search lists Current company, Past company, Locations, Industry, School and Keywords among the filters. It also accepts conversational language, with "Social media marketers at LinkedIn in CA" as its own example.

Take product managers at Shopify in Toronto. Set Current company to Shopify, Locations to Toronto, and put "product manager" in Keywords. Then read the titles that come back. Teams name the same job differently, so a first pass often turns up "product lead" or "group product manager", and those titles are worth a second search.

On a free account, every one of these searches counts toward the commercial use limit. LinkedIn does not publish the number, and the free allowance resets at midnight Pacific time on the 1st of each month. Premium Business, Recruiter Lite and Sales Navigator are the upgrades LinkedIn lists. Operators that sharpen these searches are covered in LinkedIn Boolean search, and the recruiting plan in LinkedIn Recruiter Lite.

How do you find someone's LinkedIn profile by name and company?

To find one person's LinkedIn profile, type their full name and the company name into LinkedIn's top search box. LinkedIn's commercial use limit page says "searching profiles by name using the search box located at the top of every page" does not count toward the limit, so a name search there does not use up a free account's allowance.

If the name is common, add the Current company filter and a location; a filtered search like that counts toward the limit on a free account. If nothing comes back, try the variants people use on profiles. These include a short form of the first name, a previous surname, an initial in place of a middle name, and other spellings of a name from another alphabet.

Without logging in, Google can do the same job. Put the name and the company in quotes and limit the search to profile pages:

site:linkedin.com/in "Firstname Lastname" "Company name"

An empty result does not prove there is no profile. Google's own documentation says the site: operator "doesn't necessarily return all the URLs that are indexed" under that address. More profile patterns are in LinkedIn X-ray search.

Before you treat a result as the right person, match two or three facts: the title, the city and the dates on the current role. A second source, such as the company's team page or a talk they gave, confirms it.

How do you check that someone still works there?

A profile is edited by its owner, so a job change may not show yet. People also move often, and younger workers move most. The BLS tenure release put median tenure at 3.0 years for workers aged 25 to 34, against 9.6 years for those aged 55 to 64, in January 2026.

Check the start date on the current role, the person's recent posts, the company's own team or leadership page, and any recent press release or talk that names them. When two of those agree, the person is probably still there.

How do you find former employees of a company?

To find former employees, use LinkedIn's Past company filter instead of Current company. Leave Current company empty to see everyone who has left, or set it to a second company to see who moved from one to the other.

That second search is a common one for recruiters. People who left Shopify for a smaller company have already shown they will move, and the company they left tells you the kind of work they did. Picking which competitors to search, and who to call first, is covered in how to recruit from competitors. Mapping a whole market this way is talent mapping.

How do you find employees of a company without LinkedIn?

Outside LinkedIn, the main sources of a company's employees are the company's own website, Google searches limited to that website, GitHub, event speaker pages and official registers. Each one covers a different slice of the staff.

The company's own website

Team, leadership and about pages name the people a company wants to show. Press releases name spokespeople and new hires. Blog posts carry author names, and careers pages often feature staff. A Google search limited to the company's domain finds pages the site navigation hides:

site:companydomain.com ("our team" OR "leadership" OR "meet the team")

To find public profiles that name the company, combine it with a title:

site:linkedin.com/in "Company name" ("engineering manager" OR "head of engineering")

GitHub organizations

Many software companies run a GitHub organization, and its People list shows members. GitHub lets each member choose whether their membership is public or private, so the list can be far shorter than the engineering team. The repositories themselves help too: regular contributors to a company's public code are often its engineers.

Conference and event speaker pages

Event sites list speakers with their title, employer and talk topic. That makes them a good source for specialists and leaders who say little on LinkedIn. Search patterns for speaker sites, GitHub, Stack Overflow and alumni pages are in Google X-ray search for recruiters.

Public registers and filings

For directors and executives, official records are the primary source. The UK's Companies House register can be searched by company name, number or officer name and lists a company's officers. For US public companies, SEC EDGAR full text search covers electronic filings since 2001, and proxy statements and annual reports name the executives and directors. Neither goes below leadership.

Is it legal and ethical to search a company's employees?

Looking up a company's employees from public professional profiles is a normal part of recruiting. The lines are about how the information is collected and used. This is general information, not legal advice.

What is the faster way to find people at a company?

Searching by company is a form of direct sourcing. Gem's 2026 Recruiting Benchmarks found that "direct sourcing delivers 11% of hires from just 2.6% of applications". The slow part is the clicking: one filter set per company, then every profile opened by hand.

In The Cognitive, the whole company search is one sentence. Write the people you want in plain English, company included: "senior data engineers at Shopify in Toronto", "account executives who used to work at Datadog", or "product designers in London, not currently at Amazon". The brief becomes filters you can see and change, such as current company, previous company and companies to leave out.

Results come back ranked, with a short reason for each match, the person's work history with the employer, and a link to their LinkedIn profile when one is known.

For one person, type a name and a company, or paste a profile link, and the person's card comes back. The lookup matches the person's current employer, so for someone who has left, search for people formerly at that company instead.

A search costs 1 credit for each person it shows, and a name lookup is charged the same way. Revealing a personal email costs 4 credits, and a phone number 12 credits on Pro and above. On the Sourcing Team plan and on Sourcing Pro and above, you can email the people you find as personal email from your own mailbox, and follow-ups end once someone replies. Plans start at $99 a month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a way to get a full list of a company's employees?

No, no public source gives a complete list of a company's employees. LinkedIn's People tab shows members who name the company on their profile, GitHub shows members who made their membership public, and registers such as Companies House list officers only. Combining several sources gets closest, but people who keep a low profile will always be missing.

How do I find a company's LinkedIn page?

Type the company name into LinkedIn's top search box and pick the company from the results. Many company websites also link to their LinkedIn Page in the footer. If several Pages share a similar name, check the website and headquarters listed on each one before searching its People tab.

Does searching for a company's employees count toward LinkedIn's commercial use limit?

Yes, most of it does. LinkedIn's help page says profile searches, browsing People Also Viewed and viewing profiles on the People tab of LinkedIn Pages all count toward the commercial use limit. Searching for someone by name in the top search box and browsing your 1st-degree connections do not count. LinkedIn does not publish the number, and the free allowance resets on the 1st of each month.

Does a person know when you look them up on LinkedIn?

Opening someone's profile can show you in their "Who's Viewed Your Profile" list, depending on your profile viewing setting. LinkedIn offers three options: your name and headline, private profile characteristics such as job title and industry, or private mode. In private mode you appear in that list only as an anonymous LinkedIn Member.

How do I find the email address of someone who works at a company?

Use a contact finder or a sourcing tool that reveals contact details, after you have found the person's profile. The Cognitive reveals a personal email for 4 credits, and charges nothing if none is found. A comparison of the main options is in the guide to the best recruiter contact finder tools.

Can I find employees of a company for free?

Yes, all the manual methods are free. LinkedIn's free search works within the commercial use limit, and name searches in the top box do not count toward it. Google site: searches, company websites, GitHub, Companies House and SEC EDGAR cost nothing. The Cognitive's free tool shows the 2 strongest matches for a brief, and its 7-day trial needs no card.

Should I use LinkedIn Sales Navigator or Recruiter Lite to find employees of a company?

For recruiting, Recruiter Lite is the LinkedIn plan built for hiring, while Sales Navigator is a sales product built to find leads. Sales Navigator advertises 50+ advanced search filters and TeamLink, which shows warm introductions through your team's connections. What Recruiter Lite includes and costs is covered in the guides to LinkedIn Recruiter Lite and LinkedIn Recruiter pricing.

Can AI find employees of a company?

Yes, AI sourcing tools such as The Cognitive, Juicebox, hireEZ and Pin search for people from a written description of who you want. In The Cognitive, a brief such as "account executives who used to work at Datadog" returns ranked people from about 900M public profiles, each with a short reason for the match. None of them returns a full headcount, because no public source holds one.
