LinkedIn Recruiter Lite in 2026: Is It Worth It, and the Best Alternatives

LinkedIn Recruiter Lite is worth it in 2026 if you hire a few people a year, the people you want sit inside your 3rd-degree network, and 30 InMails per seat each month is enough to reach them. If you need emails and phone numbers, more volume or a first interview, The Cognitive is the better buy. It searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief, reveals contact details, and runs a live AI video interview with the people you pick. You pay for credits, not a seat.

The InMail allowance is the number that decides most Lite purchases. LinkedIn gives Recruiter Lite 30 InMail credits per seat per month, against 150 on full Recruiter, and it warns any seat whose InMail response rate falls below 13% over 14 days (LinkedIn InMail policy). So the real question is how many people you need to write to before 1 of them says yes.

Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive, and I rank it first among the alternatives below on a rule you can check. Every LinkedIn fact on this page comes from LinkedIn's own help centre and product pages, read on 3 October 2026. For the plan-by-plan cost picture and how unused InMail credits roll over, read our LinkedIn Recruiter pricing guide. This page is about whether Lite is the right plan for you, and what to use if it isn't.

Is LinkedIn Recruiter Lite worth it?

Lite is worth paying for when 4 things are true at once:

It stops being worth it when any one of those breaks. The most common break is volume. A UK self-employed recruiter put it plainly on r/RecruitmentAgencies: "I'm going to use recruiter lite but due to the small amount of inmails that offers, I think I will need something else."

Is Recruiter Lite worth it for a small company?

For a company hiring 2 to 5 people a year, often yes. It's the only LinkedIn Recruiter plan you can buy yourself, monthly, without a sales call. It falls short when your hiring manager wants interviewed candidates rather than a list of profiles, because Lite has no screening step and LinkedIn lists its AI features as "No". The Cognitive covers that gap: it finds the people and then runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the ones you pick, so the hiring manager reads a scored report first. For other small-team options, see our guide to recruiting software for small business.

Is Recruiter Lite worth it for a recruitment agency?

For a solo recruiter or a 2-person desk, it can be. One agency of under 10 people moved off full Recruiter after a renewal and reported on Reddit: "We are all using LinkedIn Recruiter Lite now, and it is fine." Check 2 lines first. Lite tops out at 5 seats, and LinkedIn says Lite "Data is owned by the Purchaser Admin", while on the paid plans the data "is owned by and stays with your company". If a contractor holds the licence, your projects leave with them. LinkedIn's agency plan is Recruiter Professional Services (RPS), which it says suits "staffing agencies and large recruiting teams managing multiple clients", sold through sales. Agencies that live on email and phone rather than InMail often get more from The Cognitive, which reveals verified emails and phone numbers per candidate.

What is LinkedIn Recruiter Lite?

LinkedIn Recruiter Lite is LinkedIn's entry-level recruiting subscription. LinkedIn describes it as an "entry-level recruiting solution that is best suited for individuals, self-employed recruiters and small businesses". It sits below 3 sales-led plans: Recruiter Professional Services, RPS Plus and Recruiter. Job posts are billed separately, as our guide to what a LinkedIn job post costs explains.

A Lite seat gives you 20 advanced search filters, InMail credits that pool across your seats, "Basic reporting and analytics" and "2,000 unique profile views per day" according to LinkedIn's comparison page. LinkedIn sells it online "as a monthly or yearly subscription, and you can cancel at any time." It's not available to members in China.

Lite has no bulk InMail, no ATS integration, no AI features and no Hiring Assistant. Those sit on the paid plans. For a full guide to the assistant, see our page on LinkedIn Hiring Assistant.

Recruiter Lite vs Recruiter: what is the difference?

Here is how they stack up. I filled in every LinkedIn cell from LinkedIn's help centre plan matrix and product pages on 3 October 2026, and added RPS because agencies ask about it:

Three rows do most of the work. Reach decides whether the people you want are even visible. Outreach decides how many of them you can contact in a month. Data ownership decides who keeps your projects when someone leaves. If all 3 point to Lite, buy Lite. If reach is the problem, Recruiter fixes it at a sales-led price. If outreach volume or channel is the problem, an alternative that gives you emails and phone numbers usually fixes it for less commitment.

How many InMails does Recruiter Lite include?

Recruiter Lite includes 30 InMail credits per seat per month. LinkedIn's plan matrix sets these limits around them:

The credit back is generous if your messages land. The 13% floor cuts the other way. If 30 credits go to people who ignore you, you lose the credits and risk a warning. So spend the 30 on people you've checked closely. How credits roll over and what happens at renewal is covered in the pricing guide.

How much does LinkedIn Recruiter Lite cost?

LinkedIn doesn't print a Recruiter Lite price on its Recruiter Lite page or in its help centre. The plan matrix's pricing row just says "Visit our LinkedIn Recruiter Lite page to sign up", so the public pages publish no figure. The pricing model is a per-seat subscription, paid monthly or yearly, with up to 5 seats and paid extra InMail on top. Full Recruiter is different: LinkedIn says it "does not have a single standard price" and sells it per seat through "a one- to multi-year agreement" (LinkedIn Recruiter pricing).

I won't repeat anyone's third-party price here. Sign up, read the Lite figure for your term, and divide it by the InMails you'll actually send. That's your cost per message. Then set it against tools that charge per result. The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month, at 1 credit per candidate a search returns, 5 to reveal an email and 10 to reveal a phone number, and a reveal is charged only when a value comes back.

Is there a Recruiter Lite free trial?

Sometimes. LinkedIn says "If it's your first time signing up, you may be eligible for a free trial", and the Lite page's button offers to let you try it free. Eligibility is decided at sign-up, so don't plan a hiring push around it. Have your first role's brief and target list ready before you start, so the trial days go on outreach rather than setup.

Can you cancel Recruiter Lite?

Yes, at any time, by LinkedIn's own wording. Export what you need before you do. On Lite the data belongs to the Purchaser Admin, and our pricing guide covers what LinkedIn says happens to it when you cancel.

Recruiter Lite vs Sales Navigator: can you recruit with Sales Navigator?

No. LinkedIn's Service Terms say: "Customer may not use the Sales Navigator Service for recruiting purposes." The same section adds that it must not be used "for recruitment, talent sourcing, candidate identification, or any hiring-related activities." Recruiters still ask because Sales Navigator is also self-serve and also sends InMail. The terms settle it. If you want a LinkedIn seat for hiring, Recruiter Lite is the self-serve one. If you want to avoid a LinkedIn seat entirely, use a sourcing tool built for recruiting; our LinkedIn Recruiter alternatives guide ranks them.

Can you get candidate emails without InMail?

Yes, but not from Recruiter Lite itself. Lite's outreach channel is InMail. To email or call a candidate you need a contact-data tool or a sourcing tool that reveals contact details. We compare them in the best email and phone finders for recruiters.

Email is a fair bet. Ashby analysed half a million sourcing sequences and found a "19.6% average response rate from January 2022 to January 2024" (Ashby Talent Trends). That measures replies to email sequences, which is a different thing from LinkedIn's 13% InMail floor, so treat the 2 numbers as separate signals and test both on the same role.

In The Cognitive you reveal a verified email for 5 credits or a phone number for 10, enriched from 30+ sources, and you pay only when a value comes back. On the Sourcing Pro plan you can then send email and SMS sequences from platform mailboxes, and a reply or opt-out on either channel stops both. If you want to keep browsing LinkedIn and only add contact details to the profiles you view, ContactOut is built for that, as covered below.

What are the best LinkedIn Recruiter Lite alternatives in 2026?

  1. The Cognitive: best overall, because it finds people, reveals their emails and phone numbers, and interviews them live with AI, with no seat to pay for.
  2. LinkedIn Recruiter Lite: best if your candidates answer InMail and you hire a few people a year.
  3. Juicebox: best for natural-language search on a monthly seat.
  4. ContactOut: best for adding emails and phone numbers to the LinkedIn profiles you already view.
  5. Pin: best free plan with email sequences.
  6. hireEZ: best if you want InMail inside a multi-channel sequence.

How I ranked them: The Cognitive is first because it's the only tool here that finds people outside your own database and runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them, in an account you can open without a sales call, at a published price. Recruiter Lite stays on the list because, for InMail, nothing replaces LinkedIn. After #1, the order is my judgment of how directly each tool fixes the usual reasons people outgrow Lite: InMail volume, reach, and no contact data. I have not used the other 5 on a paid account. What I say about them comes from their own websites, read on 3 October 2026. For tools that replace full Recruiter, see our LinkedIn Recruiter alternatives list.

Finding people yourself is worth the effort. In Gem's 2026 recruiting benchmarks, sourced candidates were "nearly eight times more likely to be hired than inbound applicants".

1. The Cognitive: best overall, because it finds people, reveals their emails and phone numbers, and interviews them live with AI, with no seat to pay for

The Cognitive is AI recruiting software that sources candidates across ~900M public profiles and interviews them live with AI. Where Lite gives you 20 filters and your 3rd-degree network, The Cognitive starts from a sentence. We typed "Senior backend engineer with 5+ years of Go who has built payments systems, Remote EU", and it read that into filters we could edit, with "Remote EU" read as Germany plus 7 other countries.

Every person found is judged against the must-haves in your brief, and anyone who misses one drops below the people who meet them. Each result card opens with a "Why this match" line giving 1 or 2 reasons traced to the profile, such as "Go listed in skills". You shortlist or hide, then reveal a verified email or phone number for the people you want.

Then comes the step Lite doesn't have. You invite the people you shortlist to a live, two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes, in any of 9 languages. The invitation tells candidates the interview is run by AI, and they book their own slot without making an account. The rubric is fixed for the role and the questions adapt to each answer. You get a 1 to 5 score per criterion, overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the transcript and the recording. Nothing is rejected automatically.

The 5-minute recording above is a live AI interview for a go-to-market role. The AI asks the candidate about an outbound email campaign, then follows up on reply rates and on how leads were qualified. More on the AI interviewer page.

It has no InMail, no Chrome extension, and it can't search your own ATS history. AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans you can cancel anytime. More on our AI sourcing page.

Pick it if you outgrew 30 InMails a month, or you want candidates interviewed before you spend your own time on them.

Run the role you would have searched in Recruiter Lite Describe it in one sentence, reveal the emails and phone numbers you need, and interview the people you pick, live, with AI. Start free

2. LinkedIn Recruiter Lite: best if your candidates answer InMail and you hire a few people a year

Lite gives you the one channel no alternative can: InMail inside LinkedIn, to members who may never publish an email address. If your candidates reply on LinkedIn, the 90-day credit back returns the credit for every answered message. You buy it online, monthly or yearly, and you can cancel any time.

The limits are the ones in the table: 30 InMails per seat, 3rd-degree reach, 5 seats, no ATS link and no screening. You can keep 1 Lite seat for InMail and use a sourcing tool for search, contact details and screening.

Pick it if LinkedIn is where your candidates answer, and 30 messages a month per seat is enough.

3. Juicebox: best for natural-language search on a monthly seat

Juicebox says it lets you "Search for top talent in natural language" across "800M global profiles and 30+ diverse data sources", and its sequences can "Include social and call steps in your cadence". That suits Lite users who never liked building filter stacks.

Juicebox charges per seat, monthly or annually, with contact credits, and publishes prices for its Free, Starter and Growth plans on its pricing page. Phone numbers start on Growth, and Business is a custom quote. I found no interview or screening step on its homepage or pricing page. See our Juicebox review.

Pick it if you want plain-English search and email outreach, and you'll handle screening yourself.

4. ContactOut: best for adding emails and phone numbers to the LinkedIn profiles you already view

ContactOut works next to LinkedIn rather than instead of it. Its extension says "Prospect faster on LinkedIn & any company website" and claims "emails and phone numbers for 75% of people on LinkedIn." You can "Sign up to get 5 free credits daily".

It's contact data only. There's no ranking against a brief, no sequence of its own and no screening, so it fixes the channel problem and leaves search to you.

Pick it if you'll keep searching on LinkedIn, even on a free account, and just need to email or call people.

5. Pin: best free plan with email sequences

Pin searches 850M+ profiles from a job description and books interviews on your calendar. Its free plan includes 5 contact lookup credits per week, 1 job position, 1 AI agent and email-only sequences, and paid plans are per user, monthly or annual, with prices published except for Business (Pin pricing). It schedules interviews; it doesn't conduct them.

Worth knowing for a LinkedIn page: on 16 September 2026 Pin posted that "LinkedIn's team raised concerns about our presence on their platform, and we're working with them to resolve it", adding "Pin does not depend on LinkedIn." Our Pin alternatives guide covers its rivals.

Pick it if you want to test AI sourcing for free before paying for anything.

6. hireEZ: best if you want InMail inside a multi-channel sequence

hireEZ searches "1B+ candidate profiles across 45+ channels" and runs "Email, SMS, and InMail engagement", so LinkedIn stays one channel among several. It also lists "Voice AI that screen and engage at scale", which screens by voice and phone rather than by video.

The solo plan has a published price and a 7-day free trial. Team pricing is configured to the tools hireEZ replaces, by quote. Our hireEZ review has the detail.

Pick it if you run outbound at volume and want InMail and email in the same sequence.

Who is The Cognitive built for?

I built The Cognitive for the recruiter who opens Lite, finds 40 good profiles, and then runs out of InMails at 30. It's for small companies that hire in waves and don't want a seat sitting idle between them, and for agency desks that live on email and phone. You describe the role, reveal the contacts you need, and hand the hiring manager people who've already been interviewed.

How do you test Recruiter Lite against an alternative?

Run both on 1 real role for 2 weeks. Start the Lite free trial if LinkedIn offers you one, and run the same brief in the alternative. Count 4 things: people you'd contact, messages or contacts that reached them, replies, and your own hours before a hiring manager saw a candidate. Divide your Lite cost by its replies and your alternative's cost by its replies, and keep whichever is lower. The Cognitive has a free trial with 100 sourcing credits, so you can run that test on a live role.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LinkedIn Recruiter Lite worth it?

LinkedIn Recruiter Lite is worth it if you hire a few people a year and 30 InMails per seat each month is enough to reach them. It reaches up to your 3rd-degree connections, with 20 filters, up to 5 seats and no ATS integration. If you need emails, phone numbers or a first interview, The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles, reveals contact details and interviews the people you pick, live, with AI.

How much does LinkedIn Recruiter Lite cost?

LinkedIn doesn't print a Recruiter Lite price on its Lite page or help centre; you see it when you sign up. The model is a per-seat subscription, monthly or yearly, cancellable at any time, with up to 5 seats and paid extra InMail. For comparison, The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month, priced by credits instead of seats. Our LinkedIn Recruiter pricing guide covers every plan.

How many InMails does Recruiter Lite include?

Recruiter Lite includes 30 InMail credits per seat per month. You can buy up to 70 extra per seat per month, credits pool across seats, and there is no bulk InMail. LinkedIn returns a credit for every InMail answered within 90 days, and warns seats whose response rate falls below 13% over 14 days.

Is there a LinkedIn Recruiter Lite free trial?

Sometimes: LinkedIn says first-time buyers "may be eligible for a free trial", and eligibility is set at sign-up. The full Recruiter plans are sold through sales. The Cognitive has a free trial with 100 sourcing credits, so you can test it on the same role.

What is the difference between Recruiter Lite and Recruiter?

Recruiter reaches LinkedIn's full network with 40+ filters and 150 InMails per seat a month, while Lite reaches up to your 3rd-degree connections with 20 filters and 30 InMails. Recruiter adds bulk InMail, ATS integration with 28+ partners, AI features and company-owned data, and is sold per seat through a one- to multi-year agreement. Lite is bought online, monthly or yearly.

Recruiter Lite vs Sales Navigator: which should I use for recruiting?

Use Recruiter Lite, not Sales Navigator: LinkedIn's Service Terms say "Customer may not use the Sales Navigator Service for recruiting purposes." If you would rather not pay for a LinkedIn seat at all, The Cognitive is built for recruiting and searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief.

Can I get candidate emails without InMail?

Yes. The Cognitive reveals a verified email for 5 credits and a phone number for 10, charged only when a value comes back, and sends email and SMS sequences on the Sourcing Pro plan. If you keep browsing LinkedIn, ContactOut's extension adds emails and phone numbers to the profiles you view.

What is a cheaper alternative to LinkedIn Recruiter Lite?

The Cognitive is the alternative to price against Lite if you'd rather pay for results than a seat: AI Sourcing starts at $49/month, at 1 credit per candidate a search returns. Juicebox and Pin publish self-serve prices and have free plans, and ContactOut gives 5 free credits a day. Compare each against the Lite price LinkedIn quotes you, divided by the InMails you actually send.

Is Recruiter Lite good for a recruitment agency?

For a solo recruiter or a small desk, it can be, but check 2 things: Lite caps at 5 seats, and LinkedIn says Lite data "is owned by the Purchaser Admin". Agencies that work by email and phone often get more from The Cognitive, which reveals contact details and interviews candidates before you submit them. LinkedIn's own agency plan, Recruiter Professional Services, is sold through sales.
