What is candidate sourcing software?
Candidate sourcing software searches a large database of people who have not applied to your job. It finds their contact details, sends outreach and passes the interested ones to your ATS.
Direct sourcing produced 11% of hires from just 2.6% of applications in Gem's 2026 Recruiting Benchmarks Report. Sourced candidates are a small slice of the pipeline and an outsized share of the hires.
There are four kinds:
- Self-serve AI platforms with published plans: The Cognitive, Juicebox, Pin.
- Sourcing suites with a CRM or ATS: Gem, Loxo.
- Enterprise platforms on custom contracts: SeekOut, hireEZ.
- Network and job board databases: LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed Smart Sourcing, AmazingHiring.

How it was ranked
A check counts when the vendor's own site says the product has it on any plan. Five checks cover the job:
- Database size: 800M or more profiles beyond your own records.
- Plain-language search: describe the role or paste a job description and get ranked people.
- Contacts: email or phone details inside the product.
- Outreach: messages sent from the product, by email or inside the vendor's own network.
- ATS sync: an ATS integration, or the product is an ATS.
Two checks cover access. Price on site means a plan with every part the tool scored has a price on the vendor's site. Start without sales means a free plan or trial instead of a sales call.
Ties go first to a product that screens the people it found with an AI interview. Next comes the most parts on the cheapest paid plan with a price on the site, then alphabetical order.
Gem and The Cognitive both score 7, and Gem's price and start points come from its Startup Program. The Cognitive ranks first on the first tie-break: it runs a live AI interview with the people it finds, while Gem's AI agents review applicants. Among the four tools on 6, SeekOut ranks first because its AI screener interviews candidates. Juicebox and Pin each put four parts on their cheapest paid plan and Loxo's Core puts two, and Juicebox beats Pin alphabetically. At 4, Indeed's priced plan includes search and outreach, and LinkedIn Recruiter shows no price.
These tools are ranked using feedback from recruiters the founder talks with on LinkedIn, plus each vendor's own site and pricing page.
Which plan includes each part?
| Tool | Entry plan, then higher plans |
|---|---|
| The Cognitive | Entry: search, emails. Pro: outreach, phones. Higher: ATS |
| Gem | Startup Program; larger teams by quote |
| SeekOut | Core: search, contacts, email. Custom: ATS, screener |
| Juicebox | Free, then Starter: contacts, email. Business: ATS |
| Pin | Free: email only. Paid: multi-channel; ATS add-on |
| Loxo | Core: ATS, AI search. Professional: database, contacts |
| hireEZ | Solo plan; enterprise by configuration |
| Indeed Smart Sourcing | Professional plan; extra contacts cost more |
| LinkedIn Recruiter | Lite trial; Recruiter through sales |
| AmazingHiring | Demo only |
How do you choose candidate sourcing software?
Does the database hold the people you hire?
Profile counts here run from 380M (Indeed) to more than 1B (SeekOut, hireEZ, LinkedIn). A network of members, a resume database and a set of code profiles are different pools. Run your hardest open role as a test search before you sign.
Can you describe the role, or do you have to write Boolean?
Plain-language search turns "senior backend engineers with Kubernetes and Go, in Berlin" into filters and ranks the people. Boolean gives exact control and punishes a missing synonym. Pick a tool that shows the filters your brief became, so you can see and fix how it was read. For hand-built strings, see Boolean search generators.
Does it find a personal email or only a work one?
A personal email reaches someone quietly looking without landing in an inbox their employer runs. Ask whether you pay when nothing is found. LinkedIn Recruiter and Indeed Smart Sourcing keep contact inside their own messaging, with no email or phone.
Whose mailbox sends the outreach, and how many steps?
Email from your own Gmail or Outlook arrives as a message from a person, not a platform. Across half a million sequences sent from 2022 to 2024, Ashby found a 19.6% average response rate, and reply rates plateau around 23% after three emails. Campaigns using AI personalization replied at 35.3% against 24.1% without.
Will it sync with your ATS, and both ways?
Your ATS already holds people who said "not now" two years ago. Gem's 2026 benchmarks found that 46% of sourced hires now come from rediscovered candidates, up from 26% in 2021. A two-way sync stops duplicate outreach. For most tools here it is not on the cheapest plan.
The 10 best candidate sourcing software platforms, reviewed
1. The Cognitive: best for finding, emailing and interviewing people in one self-serve account

Verdict: The Cognitive scores 7 of 7 and is the one platform here that runs a live AI video interview on a plan with a published price.
The Cognitive is AI sourcing and AI interviews in one account. Type the role as you would brief a colleague, and it returns ranked people from about 900M public profiles. The brief becomes filters you can edit, and each person comes with a short reason for the match.
You reveal a personal email or phone number only for the people you want, and pay only when one is found. Outreach goes from your own Gmail or Outlook mailbox, and follow-ups stop when the person replies. It also works from Claude as a connector.
The people you pick get a live two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes, in 9 languages. The rubric is fixed and the questions follow each answer. You get a scored report against your criteria, with the recording and transcript.
Best for: in-house teams and small agencies that want new people found, emailed and screened in one account.
Watch out for: no Chrome extension and no InMail. Email outreach needs Sourcing Pro or a team plan, phone numbers need Sourcing Pro, Max or Business, and sync with 100+ ATS sits on higher plans. It is not an ATS, and you start each search yourself.
Pricing model: Plans start at $99 a month. AI Sourcing and AI Interviews are billed as separate monthly plans, and credits pay for people shown, contacts revealed and interviews. Price on website: yes, on the pricing page.
2. Gem: best for sourcing, CRM and rediscovery tied to your ATS

Verdict: Gem scores 7 of 7 and is the most complete suite here.
Gem's pitch is to "Search 800M+ profiles, surface your best past candidates, and reach anyone with verified contact info." Its AI sourcing also searches past candidates in your ATS and CRM, with natural language search alongside Boolean and filters. Seats include unlimited email-finding, and sequences run across email, SMS and InMail.
Gem runs on top of your ATS with a bi-directional sync, or as Gem All-in-One with its own ATS. Its AI App Review Agent ranks applicants rather than interviewing sourced people.
Best for: TA teams that want sourcing, CRM, rediscovery and reporting in one system.
Watch out for: above 100 employees the price comes from sales, and sourced people get no AI interview. See the full Gem review.
Pricing model: custom by headcount, plus a Startup Program you can join without a sales call. Price on website: for startups.
3. SeekOut: best for enterprise searches in technical, cleared and healthcare talent

Verdict: SeekOut scores 6 of 7 and has the deepest specialist pools on this list.
SeekOut lists 1B+ public profiles, 40M+ technical profiles and 3.7M+ cleared candidates. You can paste a job description and "AI extracts skills and related titles", or use Boolean with 300+ filters. Sourcing Core includes monthly contact credits, and profiles come back enriched. It runs multi-step email campaigns and works inside Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
Its homepage says "Our AI screener conducts video interviews with candidates, evaluates responses against your criteria". That screener and ATS integration sit on custom plans or as add-ons.
Best for: enterprise teams hiring engineers, cleared staff or clinicians.
Watch out for: AI screening and ATS sync are not on the self-serve plan, and the 14-day trial needs a company email address. See hireEZ vs SeekOut.
Pricing model: Sourcing Core self-serve with a published price; higher plans custom, billed annually. Price on website: Core only.
4. Juicebox: best for one recruiter who wants search, contacts and email on a self-serve plan

Verdict: Juicebox scores 6 of 7 and gives a solo recruiter the most on a self-serve plan.
Juicebox searches 800M profiles drawn from more than 30 data sources. Its AI search-builder writes the query for you, with "No Booleans needed". Contact credits cover email and phone, and Starter includes email outreach with AI templates.
Juicebox Agents, an add-on, can be set to auto-email or auto-shortlist. ATS or CRM integration is on the Business plan only.
Best for: solo recruiters and small teams.
Watch out for: ATS sync means a Business contract, and there is no screening step. The Gem vs Juicebox comparison goes deeper.
Pricing model: a free tier, then monthly seats with prices listed; Business by quote; agents cost extra. Price on website: yes, except Business.
5. Pin: best for handing off outreach until a call is booked

Verdict: Pin scores 6 of 7 and does the most work after the search.
Pin promises "850M+ profiles. Only the ones that fit." You paste, upload or import a job description, and it "sends it from your own Gmail or Outlook, on schedule, until they reply", then books the interviews. It lists 120+ ATS integrations, an add-on on Solo and Professional and included on Enterprise.
Best for: recruiters who want sourcing through to a booked call.
Watch out for: each booked first round still takes recruiter time, and the ATS add-on has no price on the page.
Pricing model: free forever plan, then per user per month; Enterprise by quote. Price on website: yes, except Enterprise and the ATS add-on.
6. Loxo: best for agencies that want ATS, CRM and a people database in one system

Verdict: Loxo scores 6 of 7 and is the strongest system of record here.
Loxo offers "Native sourcing with 850 million people" alongside its ATS, recruiting CRM and outreach. You search your private database and Loxo's dataset in one place, using natural language, Boolean or filters. Emails and phone numbers come "when available", and outreach runs as multi-channel sequences.
Core has a price on the page and includes the ATS, CRM and AI search. The 850M+ dataset, contacts and agents sit on Professional: "Book a demo to see pricing".
Best for: recruiting firms that want candidates, clients and sourcing in one system.
Watch out for: if you already have an ATS you like, you pay for a second one. More in Loxo alternatives.
Pricing model: per user per month, billed annually; Professional and Enterprise through sales. Price on website: Core only.
7. hireEZ: best for large TA teams replacing several point tools with one agent layer

Verdict: hireEZ scores 5 of 7 and covers the most stages for an enterprise team.
hireEZ sells agents that source, review, screen and schedule, directed by your recruiters. It searches "1B+ candidate profiles across 45+ channels". Outreach covers "Email, SMS, and InMail engagement", and it runs on top of your existing ATS with 40+ native integrations.
Its Conversational AI Screening offers "A real screening conversation for every candidate". Contact lookup is not stated beyond CRM and ATS enrichment.
Best for: enterprise TA teams folding sourcing, CRM, outreach and screening into one layer.
Watch out for: the full stack is priced to the tools it replaces, after a four-week verification, and the solo plan's contents are not listed.
Pricing model: solo plan with a published price and a 7-day trial; enterprise by configuration. Price on website: solo only.
8. Indeed Smart Sourcing: best for searching resumes people posted on Indeed

Verdict: Indeed Smart Sourcing scores 4 of 7 and reaches people who are already looking.
Indeed pairs its resume database with AI matching, across more than 380M sourceable profiles: public job seeker accounts with a verified email address. It adds Boolean search and AI-written bulk messages.
Contact happens through Indeed messaging, with a monthly allowance of contacts and a charge for each one beyond it. On ATS integration, Indeed says availability "may depend on your account setup".
Best for: teams hiring active job seekers who keep a resume on Indeed.
Watch out for: people who never posted a resume are not in it, and you get no email or phone to use from your own mailbox. More in the Indeed Smart Sourcing review.
Pricing model: Professional plan, monthly or yearly, with a 14-day trial; extra contacts per contact; prices vary by market. Price on website: yes.
9. LinkedIn Recruiter: best for reaching LinkedIn members by InMail

Verdict: LinkedIn Recruiter scores 4 of 7; it owns the network, and every message stays inside it.
LinkedIn pairs Recruiter with Hiring Assistant, which "taps into LinkedIn's network of 1B+ professionals". You share your hiring goals and it searches, reviews and delivers a summarized shortlist, and it can send prescreening questions. Recruiter includes 100 to 150 InMails a month and connects to ATS systems.
Best for: teams whose candidates live on LinkedIn and reply there.
Watch out for: no email or phone data, a sales-led price and Hiring Assistant as an add-on. See LinkedIn Recruiter pricing.
Pricing model: by company size and seats through sales; Recruiter Lite has a free trial. Price on website: no.
10. AmazingHiring: best for developers judged by their public code and answers

Verdict: AmazingHiring scores 3 of 7 and is a specialist tool for technical sourcers.
AmazingHiring searches more than 50 networks and adds contact info, outreach campaigns and analytics. You search across GitHub, Stack Overflow, Kaggle and LinkedIn and filter by skills, experience, open-to-work status and location. Its homepage gives no profile count and no plain-language search.
Best for: technical recruiters sourcing developers and data scientists.
Watch out for: built for tech roles, and you start with a demo.
Pricing model: by quote after a demo. Price on website: no.
Which candidate sourcing software does it all, end to end?
End to end means four steps in one account: find people outside your database, email them, screen the interested ones with AI, and sync to your ATS. SeekOut and hireEZ cover all four on custom enterprise contracts. The Cognitive covers them on plans with prices on its website, with a live AI video interview as the screen. Gem stops at applicant review, and Pin hands you a booked call (see sourcing and AI interviewing platforms).
When to skip The Cognitive
- You want one system of record. The Cognitive is not an ATS; Loxo and Gem All-in-One are.
- You hire active job seekers in volume. Indeed Smart Sourcing holds their resumes.
- You want an agent that emails or shortlists on its own. Juicebox Agents can be set to do either.
- You source from LinkedIn profiles with a Chrome extension. Gem, SeekOut and Loxo offer one.
What to ask in a sourcing software demo
- Run my hardest open role live. How many of the top 20 would I contact?
- Which plan includes the database, contacts, outreach and ATS sync, and what does it cost?
- Do you return personal emails, and do I pay when no contact is found?
- Which mailbox sends the emails, and does the sequence stop when someone answers?
- Does the ATS sync write back, and for which candidates?
To judge The Cognitive, run one real role. The 7-day trial needs no card and includes 100 people, enough to test the matches and the reasons. Outreach starts on Sourcing Pro. Start the free trial.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best candidate sourcing software in 2026?
The Cognitive is the best candidate sourcing software for in-house teams and small agencies that want search, email outreach and a first interview in one account. Describe the role in plain English and it returns ranked people from about 900M public profiles, each with a reason; the ones you choose can take a live AI video interview.
What is the best candidate sourcing software for agencies?
Loxo suits agencies that want ATS, CRM, sourcing and outreach in one system. The Cognitive suits agency desks that keep their ATS and want new people found, emailed and interviewed.
Is there free candidate sourcing software for startups?
Yes, a few let you start free. Juicebox and Pin have free plans, and Gem runs a Startup Program for smaller companies. The Cognitive's 7-day trial needs no card and includes 100 people; outreach starts on Sourcing Pro.
Is there candidate sourcing software cheaper than LinkedIn Recruiter?
Yes. LinkedIn Recruiter is priced through sales, while The Cognitive, Juicebox, Pin and Indeed Smart Sourcing list prices on their websites. The trade is the channel: LinkedIn sends InMail, and most of the others give you an email address to write to.
How much does candidate sourcing software cost?
Most cost more than the entry plan suggests, because contacts, outreach and ATS sync sit on higher plans. Expect per seat per month (Juicebox, Pin, Loxo), credits (The Cognitive), headcount-based quotes (Gem, LinkedIn Recruiter) or enterprise contracts (SeekOut, hireEZ). The Cognitive's plans start at $99 a month.
Does any candidate sourcing software interview candidates?
Yes, a few now screen the people they find. The Cognitive runs a live two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes and gives you a scored report. SeekOut's AI screener runs video interviews on its higher plans, hireEZ offers Conversational AI Screening, and LinkedIn's Hiring Assistant can send prescreening questions.
What is the best all-in-one candidate sourcing software?
For sourcing-led hiring, The Cognitive covers the most in one account. It finds people, emails them from your Gmail or Outlook and interviews the ones you pick on live video. ATS sync and outreach sit on higher plans.
