Gem Review: What Gem's ATS, CRM and AI Sourcing Do Well

What does Gem do?

• Sources. Natural-language search covers "800M+ profiles" and your past candidates, and a Chrome extension adds profiles from LinkedIn "and over 20 other sites".
• Rediscovers. The CRM leads with Gem's own figure: "46% of sourced hires come from rediscovered candidates".
• Tracks applicants. Gem ATS "handles job posting, pipeline management, offer approvals, and hiring workflows".
• Reviews and reports. The AI App Review Agent ranks applicants, the AI Fraud Detection Agent flags suspicious ones, and Talent Compass covers dashboards, forecasting and benchmarks.

How does Gem work, step by step?

• 1. Pick a package. "Gem + Your ATS" layers Gem on your current ATS with no migration; "Gem All-in-One" replaces it.
• 2. Source. Search in plain English, and AI Talent Rediscovery brings back past applicants. Email-finding is unlimited.
• 3. Engage. Sequences send email, SMS and InMail, with a send-on-behalf option.
• 4. Review. App Review ranks applicants, and AI Scorecard Summaries condense interviewer feedback.
• 5. Schedule. Candidates book human interviews through a self-scheduling portal.
• 6. Measure. 8 pre-built dashboards report pipeline health, source of hire and recruiter productivity.

Gem pricing: how is it priced?

Gem does not publish a standard price. Both packages are custom, "Based on your company's FTE count", behind "Talk to Sales". AI features need an "AI-Powered seat", and Gem says sourcing is unlimited per licensed recruiter.

The Startup Program is the exception: under 30 employees, Gem All-in-One is free for 6 months, then 50% off. Teams of 30 to 100 get reduced rates without a sales call. For everyone else, Gem pricing is a quote sized to headcount.

Where does Gem not fit?

These limits come from Gem's own site and its users.

• It does not interview anyone. App Review ranks applications on paper, so every shortlisted name still needs a human screen.
• Outside the startup offer, every price is a quote.
• Gem ATS is "currently best for growing teams with up to a few thousand employees". Gem says many enterprise teams run it on their existing ATS instead.
• Cost is a repeat complaint. A small-business sourcer wrote that "the pricing can feel a little high for smaller recruiting teams".

What do Gem reviews on G2 say?

Gem holds 4.7 out of 5 on G2 from 310 reviews, read on 4 October 2026, with 255 of them five-star. G2's tagged pros are led by Ease of Use (15 mentions) and Efficiency (13); the cons by Integration Issues (7), then Not Intuitive, Limited Customization and Expensive (5 each).

G2's summary says users praise "ease of use and streamlined candidate sourcing" and note "a common learning curve". One found it "slow or buggy, especially when syncing with ATS systems", and a 1-star reviewer called it "largely a CRM with light automation". Gem replied that "we are going to fix it".

Where does Gem sit in a recruiting stack?

Gem covers 3 of the 4 jobs in a recruiting stack, or sits on your current ATS. Its Greenhouse page says: "Greenhouse tracks who applies. Gem finds who hasn't, yet."

Verdict: who should buy Gem, and who should not

• Verdict: a well-rated, broad platform built around its CRM and rediscovery. It finds, tracks and measures candidates and leaves interviewing to your team.
• Buy it if you want one system from sourcing to offer, or a CRM on a big ATS, and can sit through a sales cycle.
• Look elsewhere if you want a published monthly price, or AI-run interviews.
• Before you commit, get a quote for your exact FTE count and test the ATS sync on a live requisition.
