Gem Alternatives in 2026: 10 Recruiting CRM and Sourcing Tools Compared
By Sparsh Goyal, Founder at The Cognitive. Published · Last updated
- Top picks: The Cognitive for sourcing plus a live AI interview, Juicebox for plain-English search, SeekOut for enterprise search across your ATS, hireEZ for sourcing and CRM on top of your ATS, Pin for a free start.
- The Cognitive is the only tool here that finds people outside your database and runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them, in a self-serve account at a published price; Gem has no AI interviewer and prices both packages by FTE count.
- Pick Loxo if you are an agency that wants ATS, CRM and sourcing in one, or Ashby, Greenhouse or Workable if the ATS and CRM were the part of Gem you used.
- I run The Cognitive. The other 9 are judged from their own websites, read on 3 October 2026.
The best Gem alternative in 2026 is The Cognitive if you came to Gem recruiting software for sourcing: it searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief, then runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you pick. You open the account yourself at a published price, while Gem prices both its packages by FTE count, through sales. Among the other Gem alternatives and Gem competitors, Juicebox suits plain-English search, SeekOut suits enterprise search, hireEZ adds sourcing and a CRM on top of your ATS, Pin gives you a free start and Fetcher sends you candidates. If Gem's CRM or ATS was the part you used, look at Loxo, Ashby, Greenhouse and Workable.
So work out which half of Gem you actually used. Gem's own 2026 recruiting benchmarks found that sourced candidates are "nearly eight times more likely to be hired than inbound applicants", and that 46% of sourced hires now come from rediscovered candidates, up from 26% in 2021. Finding new people and working your own database are 2 different jobs, and they need different tools.
The best Gem alternatives in 2026
- The Cognitive: best overall, for finding new people and interviewing them live with AI.
- Juicebox: best for plain-English search on a monthly seat.
- SeekOut: best for enterprise search across 1B+ profiles and your ATS.
- hireEZ: best for sourcing and a talent CRM on top of your ATS.
- Pin: best for a free start and multi-client agencies.
- Loxo: best for agencies that want ATS, CRM and sourcing in one.
- Fetcher: best for having candidates delivered.
- Ashby: best for ATS, CRM and sequences in one product.
- Greenhouse: best for structured hiring on an established ATS.
- Workable: best for an AI sourcing agent inside an ATS and HR suite.
Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive. I put it first on a test you can check: it's the only tool here that finds people outside your database and runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them, in an account you can open without a sales call, at a published price. Numbers 2 to 5 and 7 replace Gem's sourcing; 6 and 8 to 10 replace its CRM or ATS. The order within each group is my judgment. I have not used the other 9 on a paid account; what I say comes from their own websites, read on 3 October 2026.
Why do recruiters look for Gem alternatives?
Gem is well reviewed: 4.7 out of 5 from 310 reviews on G2 (read 3 October 2026). The complaints are few, but they repeat. G2 tags "Integration Issues" 7 times, and "Not Intuitive", "Limited Customization" and "Expensive" 5 times each. In reviewers' words:
- Price for small teams. "The pricing can feel a little high for smaller recruiting teams, especially with heavy use of email/contact credits," a sourcer wrote in August 2026.
- The AI feels thin. A 1-star review from July 2026 called Gem "largely a CRM with light automation". Gem replied publicly and promised a fix.
- Rigid workflows and reports. A CTO felt "limited by how easily Gem allows you to customize its workflows and generate detailed reports" (May 2026).
- No interview step. Gem doesn't interview anyone, so every reply still becomes a phone screen on your calendar.
Teams that use one part of the suite still pay for all of it. So most searches for a Gem.com alternative, or a Gem recruiting alternative, are about replacing one part.
What is Gem recruiting software, and what does it do well?
Gem is an AI recruiting platform that combines sourcing, a recruiting CRM, an ATS, scheduling, application review and analytics. Gem calls itself "the AI-first recruiting platform built for better outcomes, not more tools" and says it is "Trusted by 1,200+ talent acquisition teams".
- Gem AI sourcing. The AI Sourcing Agent searches "800M+ profiles, past candidates in your ATS and CRM, and ideal profiles", with sequences over email, SMS and InMail.
- Gem CRM. AI Talent Rediscovery "automatically surfaces past candidates who match your open roles".
- Gem ATS. Job posting to 100+ boards, "currently best for growing teams with up to a few thousand employees".
- Application review. The AI App Review Agent ranks inbound applicants and explains each ranking.
Its strength is depth: Gem syncs both ways with Greenhouse, Workday, Lever and iCIMS. For a verdict on the product itself, read our Gem review.
How do the Gem alternatives compare?
I filled in every cell from the vendor's own site on 3 October 2026:
| Tool | Best for | Finds people outside your database? | Outreach | AI interview? | Pricing model (published?) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Cognitive | Sourcing, then interviewing | Yes, ~900M public profiles | Email and SMS (Sourcing Pro) | Live two-way video, 9 languages | Monthly plans with credits (yes) |
| Juicebox | Plain-English search | Yes, 800M profiles | Email with social and call steps | No | Per seat plus contact credits (yes, except Business) |
| SeekOut | Enterprise search | Yes, 1B+ profiles | Multi-step campaigns | Video screening of applicants, custom tier | Per seat, annual (Core only) |
| hireEZ | Sourcing and CRM on your ATS | Yes, 45+ platforms | Email, SMS, InMail | Voice AI, by demo | Solo plan; teams by quote (Solo only) |
| Pin | A free start, agencies | Yes, 850M+ profiles | Email on Free; multi-channel paid | No | Free, then per user (yes, except Business) |
| Loxo | Agency ATS and CRM | Yes, 850M+ graph | Omnichannel | No | Per user, annual (yes, except Enterprise) |
| Fetcher | Candidates delivered | Yes, 500M+ database | No | Monthly, capped by leads (yes, except Enterprise) | |
| Ashby | ATS, CRM, sequences | None listed | Email, InMail, SMS | No | By company size (up to 100 employees) |
| Greenhouse | Structured hiring | Partly, on Pro | Email, texting | Voice AI, by demo | By demo (no) |
| Workable | Agent inside an ATS | Yes, 400M+ profiles | Email, texting add-on | One-way video add-on | By employee band (yes) |
Gem's own row would read: yes, 800M+ profiles; email, SMS and InMail; no AI interview; custom by FTE count.
How did we rank these Gem alternatives?
I kept 9 tools that show up next to Gem in buyer searches and each replace a clear part of its suite. Every page ranking for "Gem alternatives" that I read was by a vendor that put itself first, so here is my rule, stated so you can recompute it.
Every tool got 4 tests: it finds people outside your database; it runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them; you can open an account without a sales call; the price is on the website. Only The Cognitive passes all 4. SeekOut's video screener sits on a custom tier sold by demo, and Workable's video add-on is one-way, per its help centre. After #1, I sorted by the reason a Gem buyer leaves. I couldn't check anything behind a paid login.
How do you choose a Gem alternative?
Does Gem find new candidates, or mostly rediscover your CRM?
Gem sourcing does both. It searches 800M+ outside profiles, and its extension adds people from LinkedIn and over 20 other sites. But Gem's own CRM page leads with rediscovery: "46% of sourced hires come from rediscovered candidates." If your database is large and warm, keep a CRM and read our candidate rediscovery playbook. If it's small, or the roles are new to you, you need outside search. The Cognitive only searches outside profiles; it doesn't search your ATS history.
Is Gem good for recruiting agencies?
Gem has a recruiting firms page and says agency recruiters use it "the same way in-house teams do, with the added ability to organize pipelines by client or req", and G2 lists a free trial for "Gem for Staffing Agencies". For a system built around clients, look at Loxo or Pin. The Cognitive fits agencies as a sourcing and first-interview layer, with a read-only report link for each client. More in our guide to recruitment software for agencies.
What happens after a candidate replies?
In Gem, a reply goes to a recruiter, who books a screen. Gem's outreach benchmarks found that "while 22.6% of sequences see replies, only 12.1% of sequences see interested replies". If first calls eat your week, pick a tool with an interview step after outreach. Our recruiting outreach software roundup compares the sequencing side.
How does Gem compare with Juicebox, Greenhouse and Ashby?
Gem vs Juicebox for sourcing
Juicebox is the lighter tool: plain-English search on published seat prices. Gem adds the CRM, ATS sync and application review, sold by quote. If sourcing was all you did in Gem, Juicebox or The Cognitive will feel familiar. Full verdict in Gem vs Juicebox.
Gem vs Greenhouse
Many teams run both. Gem's own Greenhouse page puts the split plainly: "Greenhouse tracks who applies. Gem finds who hasn't, yet." If you only need an ATS, Greenhouse may cover it. But per Gem's benchmarks, job boards and company channels "generate roughly 90% of all applications but account for only about half of hires". Something still has to find the other half. For what the ATS side costs, see our Greenhouse pricing guide.
Gem vs Ashby
These two overlap most. Both sell an ATS, a CRM and sequences in one product, priced by company size. The difference is outside search: Gem adds 800M+ profiles, while Ashby's pricing page lists a sourcing extension and email lookups but no profile database. Pick Ashby for the ATS, or Gem if outside search matters. Our recruiting CRM guide covers the CRM side.
The 10 best Gem alternatives, reviewed
1. The Cognitive: best overall, for finding new people and interviewing them live with AI
The Cognitive is AI recruiting software that sources candidates across ~900M public profiles and interviews them live with AI. It replaces the part of Gem that finds new people, then adds the step Gem doesn't have.
You describe the role in plain English and it reads the brief into filters you can edit. When I typed "Senior backend engineer with 5+ years of Go who has built payments systems, Remote EU", it read "Remote EU" as Germany plus 7 other countries. Anyone who misses one of your must-haves drops below the people who meet them. Each result card opens with a "Why this match" line traced to the profile, such as "Go listed in skills".
Search costs 1 credit per candidate returned, 5 to reveal an email and 10 to reveal a phone number, charged only when a value comes back. Sourcing Pro adds email and SMS sequences. Then your shortlist gets a live AI interview, covered below.
The trade-off against Gem is real. The Cognitive isn't an ATS or a CRM: no job posting, nurture campaigns, funnel analytics, Chrome extension or InMail, and no search of your past applicants. Its 60+ ATS integrations, including Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workday, write the interview score, summary and report link back to candidates imported from the ATS, but people sourced inside The Cognitive aren't pushed to the ATS automatically.
Pick it if sourcing was why you bought Gem and you want the first interview done before you spend your own time. More on the AI sourcing tool page.
Run the search you ran in Gem Describe the role in plain English, judge every match against your must-haves, and interview the people you pick. Start free
2. Juicebox: best for plain-English search on a monthly seat
Juicebox searches "800M global profiles and 30+ diverse data sources" from plain English with PeopleGPT, and its sequences can "Include social and call steps in your cadence". Pricing is per seat per month plus contact credits, published for every plan but Business. The catch: connecting your ATS or CRM sits on the custom Business plan only.
Pick it if you used Gem mainly to search and email people, and want a seat you can start today. See also our Juicebox alternatives.
3. SeekOut: best for enterprise search across 1B+ profiles and your ATS
SeekOut covers Gem's sourcing and rediscovery: "Find and engage candidates across 1B+ profiles and your ATS". It holds 4.5 out of 5 from 797 reviews on G2 (read 3 October 2026), and its "AI screener conducts video interviews with candidates", aimed at inbound applicants.
Sourcing Core is self-serve, with "14 days free". Searching your own ATS needs the custom "Sourcing + Integration" tier, and AI screening sits on the custom Full Recruiting Funnel tier, billed annually.
Pick it if you're an enterprise team with years of candidates in your ATS. More in our SeekOut alternatives guide.
4. hireEZ: best for sourcing and a talent CRM on top of your ATS
hireEZ is the closest match to "Gem + Your ATS": "Agentic AI on top of your ATS", sourcing across "45+ platforms" and a "Talent CRM" to "resurface past applicants". Outreach covers email, SMS and InMail, and its "Voice AI" screens by voice, not video. G2 gives it 4.6 out of 5 from 264 reviews (read 3 October 2026). The Solo plan shows a price and a 7-day free trial; team pricing is "configured to the stack hireEZ replaces".
Pick it if you want Gem's shape from a different vendor and you're fine buying through a quote. For the head-to-head, see hireEZ vs Gem.
5. Pin: best for a free start and multi-client agencies
Pin is the free Gem alternative here. It searches "850M+ profiles", and its free plan includes "5 contact lookup credits per week, 1 Job position, 1 AI Agent, Email-only sequences". Paid plans, per user per month, add multi-channel sequences, "AI Interview Scheduling" and "Multi-client workspaces".
Read one thing first: on 16 September 2026, Pin's CEO wrote that Pin's page and his own profile were no longer on LinkedIn, and that customers were unaffected.
Pick it if you want to test AI sourcing for free. See our Pin alternatives for the rest of that field.
6. Loxo: best for agencies that want ATS, CRM and sourcing in one
Loxo is the agency answer to Gem All-in-One: a full ATS and recruiting CRM in "one system, one workflow". Loxo Source searches "a proprietary graph of 850M+ professionals" together with your own database. Core and Professional are priced per user per month, billed annually and "paid up front"; Enterprise is custom. Leaving Gem for Loxo means a migration, which Loxo does free for Core teams of 3+ seats.
Pick it if you run an agency and want 1 system for clients, candidates and sourcing. Our Loxo review goes deeper.
7. Fetcher: best for having candidates delivered
Fetcher draws on a "500M+ candidate database" and delivers candidates to you, with templated email outreach. Its Amplify plan adds "A dedicated Sourcer for ~4-6 roles". Plans show monthly prices, except Enterprise, and each caps your leads, which suits steady hiring.
Pick it if nobody on your team has time to source, and a human-assisted shortlist is what you miss.
8. Ashby: best for ATS, CRM and sequences in one product
Ashby calls its Plus plan "A powerful all-in-one recruiting product built for scale". It bundles an ATS, a CRM, a sourcing Chrome extension, email lookups, sequences "across email and LinkedIn InMail" and texting in the US and Canada. Pricing "is based on company size, usage, and commitment".
Pick it if you want Gem All-in-One's scope built around the ATS, and you source from LinkedIn yourself.
9. Greenhouse: best for structured hiring on an established ATS
Greenhouse is the ATS many Gem customers already run. Core includes "Sourcing & CRM" and "Structured interview kits & scorecards"; Pro adds "Talent discovery" and texting. It holds 4.4 out of 5 from 4,035 reviews on G2 (read 3 October 2026). Greenhouse Voice AI screens applicants with "a structured voice interview". Every plan is sold through a demo, with no price on the site.
Pick it if you're leaving Gem's ATS and want a mature system of record.
10. Workable: best for an AI sourcing agent inside an ATS and HR suite
Workable describes itself as "agentic software for recruiting and HR". Its agent "Searches 400M+ profiles" and "messages them directly to verify interest, fill gaps and answer questions". Plans are priced by employee band, with published prices and a free trial. Texting and one-way video interviews are add-ons, and the agent "runs on AI credits".
Pick it if you want an ATS, an HR suite and a sourcing agent from one vendor at a published price. Our Workable alternatives guide compares it with other ATSs.
Which Gem alternatives include AI interviews?
Gem doesn't run AI interviews. Its AI App Review Agent ranks inbound applications and explains why, but never talks to a candidate. That gap grows each year: Ashby's 2026 Talent Trends Report found the average recruiter processes 291 applications per hire, against roughly 100 in early 2021.
Of the other 9 tools, 4 screen in some form: SeekOut by video on a custom tier, hireEZ and Greenhouse by voice AI sold by demo, and Workable with a one-way recorded video add-on.
The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you sourced: 10 or 20 minutes, in any of 9 languages. Candidates book their own slot without an account, and the invitation tells them the interview is run by AI. The rubric is fixed for the role and the questions adapt to each answer. You get a 1 to 5 score per criterion, overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the transcript and the recording. Nothing is rejected automatically.
The 5-minute recording above is a live AI interview for a go-to-market role. The AI asks about an outbound email campaign, then follows up on reply rates and how leads were qualified. More on the AI interviewer page.
How much does Gem cost, and what is cheaper than Gem?
Gem pricing is custom and "Based on your company's FTE count". Both packages, "Gem + Your ATS" and "Gem All-in-One", say "Talk to Sales" on its pricing page, and the AI features need an AI-Powered seat rather than a Standard one.
Small companies get a real break: "Under 30 employees? You get Gem All-in-One free for six months, then 50% off when you move to a paid plan." Companies with 30 to 100 employees get reduced rates with "no sales call required". Past that, you need a quote. Under 30 employees, Gem is worth trying: 6 free months are hard to beat. Ask for the price after that before you build your process on it.
Whether an alternative is cheaper than Gem depends on your headcount and how many recruiters source. Our affordable AI recruiting tools list covers the vendors that publish a rate. The alternatives use 5 models:
- Monthly plans with credits: The Cognitive, which suits hiring in waves.
- Per seat or per user, published: Juicebox, Pin, Loxo, SeekOut Core and hireEZ Solo. Pin and Juicebox have free plans.
- By company size: Ashby and Workable, like Gem itself.
- Monthly plans capped by leads: Fetcher.
- By quote or demo: SeekOut and hireEZ teams, and Greenhouse.
The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, cancel anytime. Gem's sourcing is unlimited per licensed recruiter; ours is charged per candidate a search returns, so a quiet month costs less and a heavy one more. Details are on our pricing page.
How does The Cognitive compare to Gem?
The Cognitive does 2 jobs; Gem does 6. Where each one wins:
- Finding new people: both search from plain English. Gem's search also covers your ATS and CRM; ours covers outside profiles only.
- Outreach: Gem sends email, SMS and InMail. The Cognitive sends email and SMS on Sourcing Pro.
- Screening: Gem ranks applications on paper. The Cognitive interviews people live on video against a fixed rubric.
- System of record: Gem can be your ATS and CRM. The Cognitive works next to the ATS you keep.
- Buying: Gem is quoted by FTE count. The Cognitive is self-serve and monthly, with published prices.
Who is The Cognitive built for?
We built The Cognitive for recruiters whose hardest roles need people who aren't applying. You see who matches across ~900M public profiles and read an interview report before you spend an hour on anyone. In-house teams and agencies can start the same day.
- Keep your ATS. The interview score, summary and report link land on candidates you imported from Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday and others.
- Pair it with Gem's CRM if rediscovery works for you. Use The Cognitive for roles your database can't fill.
How do you switch from Gem without losing your pipeline?
Don't cancel Gem first. Run 1 open role through Gem and the alternative for 2 weeks, with the same brief. Count interested replies and the hours spent before a hiring manager saw someone worth meeting. If the alternative wins, move role by role. Before renewal, ask Gem how to export your CRM records and sequence history, and check your new tool can import them.
The Cognitive has a free trial with 100 sourcing credits.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Gem alternative for sourcing?
The Cognitive is the best Gem alternative for sourcing in 2026. It searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief, ranks anyone who misses a must-have below the people who meet them, and then runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you pick, in an account you open yourself at a published price. Juicebox, SeekOut, hireEZ and Pin are the other strong sourcing picks.
Who are Gem's main competitors?
Gem's main competitors are The Cognitive, Juicebox, SeekOut, hireEZ and Pin for sourcing and outreach, and Loxo, Ashby, Greenhouse and Workable for the ATS and CRM side. The Cognitive is the one that adds a live AI video interview after the search. Fetcher competes on human-assisted sourcing.
Does Gem find new candidates, or mostly rediscover my CRM?
Gem does both: its AI Sourcing Agent searches 800M+ outside profiles as well as past candidates in your ATS and CRM. Gem's own CRM page leads with rediscovery, saying 46% of sourced hires come from rediscovered candidates. If your database is small or your roles are new, The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles outside your database, and later searches for the same role skip people you've already seen.
How much does Gem cost, and what is cheaper than Gem?
Gem uses custom pricing based on your company's FTE count, for both Gem + Your ATS and Gem All-in-One, and you talk to sales for a figure. The Cognitive publishes its prices: AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans. Pin and Juicebox have free plans, and Juicebox, Pin, Loxo, Fetcher and Workable publish prices for most tiers, so which is cheaper depends on your headcount and how much you source.
Is Gem worth it for a company under 30 employees?
Often yes, at first: Gem gives companies under 30 employees Gem All-in-One free for six months, then 50% off a paid plan. Ask for the price after that, since it is still set by FTE count. If you only need sourcing and first interviews, The Cognitive is self-serve on monthly plans, and Pin has a free plan.
Is Gem good for recruiting agencies?
Gem works for agencies, but it is built for in-house teams first: agency recruiters use it the same way, with pipelines organised by client or req. Loxo and Pin are built more around clients, with Loxo pairing an agency ATS and CRM and Pin offering multi-client workspaces. The Cognitive fits agencies as a sourcing and first-interview layer, with a read-only report link to send each client.
Is there a Gem alternative with AI interviews?
Yes. The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes, in 9 languages, with the people you sourced, and gives you a 1 to 5 score per criterion, a weighted score out of 100, the transcript and the recording. Gem has no AI interviewer; its AI App Review Agent ranks applications. SeekOut's AI screener interviews inbound applicants on video on a custom tier, hireEZ and Greenhouse sell voice AI through a demo, and Workable's video add-on is one-way.
Gem vs SeekOut: which should I pick?
Pick SeekOut if you are an enterprise team that wants 1B+ outside profiles and your own ATS in one search; pick Gem if you want a CRM, ATS sync and application review in one suite. SeekOut's Sourcing Core is self-serve, while Gem sells by quote. If you want outside search followed by a live AI interview, The Cognitive does both in one self-serve account.
Gem vs Greenhouse or Ashby: which do I need if I only want an ATS?
If you only need an ATS, a dedicated one like Greenhouse or Ashby is the simpler choice. Greenhouse Core includes sourcing and a CRM, and Ashby bundles an ATS, CRM and sequences, while Gem says its own ATS is best for teams up to a few thousand employees. Neither ATS finds new people for you, which is where The Cognitive fits: it sources outside profiles and writes interview notes back to candidates imported from your ATS.
