Metaview Alternatives for Interview Notes, AI First Rounds and Sourcing: 10 Options for 2026
By Sparsh Goyal, Founder at The Cognitive. Published · Last updated
- Top Metaview alternatives: The Cognitive for an AI-run first round on video, BrightHire for a like-for-like swap, Greenhouse or Ashby if you already run them, and Otter.ai or Fireflies.ai for cheap transcripts.
- The Cognitive leads for that one job because it holds a live, two-way AI video interview at a slot the candidate books and returns per-criterion scores, the transcript, the recording and resume claim checks at a published price.
- If you mainly want notes on your own human interviews, Metaview is still the strongest, and BrightHire, Greenhouse and Ashby are the closest replacements.
- I run The Cognitive. The other 9, and Metaview, are judged from their own websites, read on 4 October 2026.
The best Metaview alternatives in 2026 depend on what you want Metaview to do. For teams that want the first round run by AI on video, I put The Cognitive first. BrightHire is the closest like-for-like swap, with notes and an AI screen. Greenhouse Notetaker and Ashby AI Notetaker suit their own ATS customers, and Otter.ai or Fireflies.ai cover cheap transcripts.
Metaview is a strong product, and for notes on human interviews it's still the one to beat. The pressure on recruiters has moved, though. Ashby's recruiter productivity report says the average recruiter now processes 291 applications per hire, up from roughly 100 in early 2021. A notetaker makes each screening call faster to write up. It doesn't change how many calls you take.
The best Metaview alternatives and competitors in 2026
- The Cognitive: best for teams that want a live, two-way AI video interview to run the first round, plus sourcing.
- BrightHire: best like-for-like Metaview competitor, with interview notes and an async AI screen.
- Greenhouse Notetaker: best if Greenhouse is your ATS and you interview on video in English.
- Ashby AI Notetaker: best for Ashby customers who want notes inside the ATS they already pay for.
- TestGorilla: best for skills tests, AI interviews and sourcing on a published plan.
- HireVue: best for enterprises that want an AI interviewer and a live-interview co-pilot from one vendor.
- Employ AI Interview Companion (formerly Pillar): best for live interviewer guidance on Lever, Jobvite or JazzHR.
- hireEZ: best for agentic sourcing with voice AI screening on top of your ATS.
- Otter.ai: best low-cost notetaker for a small team.
- Fireflies.ai: best for transcripts across many languages and every kind of meeting.
Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive. Putting it first is my judgment for one job, the AI-run first round on video, and it does a different job from Metaview's notetaker. The Cognitive doesn't join your Zoom calls or take notes on interviews your team runs. If that's the part of Metaview you love, keep reading for BrightHire, Greenhouse and Ashby. I have not used the other 9 on a paid account. What I say about them, and about Metaview, comes from their own websites, read on 4 October 2026.
Why do recruiters look for Metaview alternatives?
The usual reasons have little to do with the quality of Metaview's notes. Check your team against these 4:
- The first round is the bottleneck. A notetaker still needs a recruiter on the call. At 291 applications per hire, teams want the round itself handled.
- They want the AI round on video, live. Metaview's AI Screening is a voice call the candidate takes whenever it suits them. Some hiring managers want to see the person in a live conversation at a set time.
- Their ATS now has a notetaker. Greenhouse and Ashby both record and summarise interviews inside the ATS, which removes a vendor.
- They only want notes. Metaview has grown into sourcing, application review, screening and reports. A team that only wants transcripts may prefer a plain meeting notetaker.
What is Metaview, and what does it do well?
Metaview calls itself "the Agentic Recruiting Platform built for radically efficient hiring, end to end." It started as an AI interview notes tool and now sells agents for sourcing, application review, screening, notes and reports, plus an outbound recruiting agent called fillmore.
The Metaview notetaker is its strongest part. It works with Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex and Zoom, records phone interviews through its own switchboard and covers in-person meetings. It can take notes without a bot joining the call. It "maps interview answers straight into your scorecards", and completed scorecards post to the candidate's record in Greenhouse, Ashby, Workday, Lever, iCIMS and others. You can set opt-out language per jurisdiction and retention windows. If you're new to the category, our guide to interview transcripts explains what a recorded interview gives you.
Metaview also runs AI interviews now. Its Screening product is an AI voice conversation that adapts to the role and asks follow-ups. "Candidates take the call whenever suits them, on any device," and "Every call is recorded, transcribed, and scored against your rubric." It lists 18 languages, flags answers that look AI-assisted, and can ask candidates to keep video on. Its sourcing agent searches the web against your criteria.
How do the top Metaview alternatives compare?
Here is how they stack up against Metaview. I filled in every cell from the vendor's own site on 4 October 2026:
| Tool | Best for | Notes on your human interviews | AI first-round interview | Sources candidates | Price on website? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metaview (for reference) | Notes on every platform | Yes: 4 video platforms, phone, in person | Async AI voice call, video optional | Yes, sourcing agent | Yes, per user, free plan |

How did we rank these Metaview alternatives?
I started with 11 tools that buyers name next to Metaview: BrightHire, Employ's companion, Greenhouse, Ashby, Screenloop, HireLogic, Otter.ai, Fireflies.ai, TestGorilla, HireVue and hireEZ. A tool made the list if its own site shows it does at least one of Metaview's 3 big jobs: notes on human interviews, an AI first-round interview, or sourcing. Screenloop's notetaker comes bundled with replacing your ATS, and HireLogic's site names no ATS partners or prices, so both sit out.
The Cognitive is first on one stated job: running the first round as a live, two-way AI video interview at a time the candidate books, then returning per-criterion scores, the transcript, the recording and checks on the resume claims it probed, at a published price. That's a judgment, and it's checkable. It isn't the only tool that sources and interviews. Metaview, TestGorilla and hireEZ all do both in some form, which is why I don't claim "only".
For #2 to #10 I weighed how much of Metaview each one replaces, whether results land in your scorecard or ATS, and whether you can buy without a sales call. That order is judgment too. What I couldn't test: transcript accuracy, because no vendor here, us included, publishes a benchmark against human notes.
How do you choose a Metaview alternative?
Write down which Metaview agents you actually use before you look at anyone else. That decides the shortlist.
Do you need notes, or fewer interviews?
With 291 applications per hire on Ashby's numbers, the hours go on screening calls, and a notetaker documents every one of them. BrightHire, Greenhouse and Ashby replace Metaview's notes. The Cognitive replaces the first-round call itself with a live AI video interview.
Voice or video for the AI round?
Metaview's screen and hireEZ's are voice-led. BrightHire offers voice-only or video, both async. The Cognitive runs a live, two-way video conversation of 10 or 20 minutes, and candidates book their own slot without an account.
How will you spot a candidate who isn't who they say?
In a Gartner survey of 3,000 candidates in the second quarter of 2025, 6% admitted to interview fraud. Metaview flags answers that look AI-assisted, and TestGorilla's Trust Layer validates identity. The Cognitive logs integrity flags without scoring them and marks up to 5 resume claims the AI chose to probe as VERIFIED, REFUTED or UNCLEAR, with evidence from the interview. Our checklist of candidate fraud best practices for remote hiring covers the rest of the process.
Where should the results land?
Greenhouse and Ashby keep notes inside the ATS. Otter.ai reaches Greenhouse through Zapier. The Cognitive has 60+ ATS integrations and writes a note with the score, summary and report link back to candidates imported from your ATS; people sourced inside The Cognitive aren't written into the ATS automatically.
Will candidates accept an AI interviewer?
Only 26% of candidates trust AI to evaluate them fairly, in Gartner's survey of 2,918 job candidates. Tell them early. The Cognitive's invitation tells candidates the interview is run by AI, and nothing is rejected automatically.
The 10 best Metaview alternatives, reviewed
1. The Cognitive: best for teams that want a live AI video interview to run the first round
The Cognitive is AI recruiting software that sources candidates across ~900M public profiles, from a plain-English brief, and interviews them live with AI. Next to Metaview, the part that matters is the interview.
You invite candidates one at a time or in bulk. They book a slot without creating an account, and the invitation tells them the interview is run by AI. The interview is a live, two-way video conversation of 10 or 20 minutes, in 1 of 9 languages. The rubric stays fixed per role, while the questions adapt to what each person says.
This 5-minute recording, made on 1 September 2026, is a live AI interview for a go-to-market role. The AI asks about an outbound email campaign, then follows up on reply rates and on how the candidate qualified leads.
The report gives a 1 to 5 score per criterion, overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100 and a suggested verdict, with the transcript and recording beside them. Up to 5 resume claims the AI chose to probe come back marked VERIFIED, REFUTED or UNCLEAR. You can share a read-only link with the scores, feedback and recording; the transcript stays out of it.
Where Metaview is stronger: it records the human rounds that follow, on any platform, and The Cognitive doesn't. There's no phone mode either. AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans you can cancel anytime.
Pick it if you want every first-round candidate heard and scored before anyone on your team spends an hour. The AI interviewer page shows the full report.

2. BrightHire: best like-for-like Metaview competitor
BrightHire covers the same 2 jobs as Metaview's core: AI Interview Notes for human interviews and an AI interviewer called BrightHire Screen. Its pricing page lists Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. Its homepage claims "27% fewer interviews per hire", which is BrightHire's own figure.
Screen runs as voice-only or video, and it's async, so there's no scheduling. Recruiters get a ranking, scores, summaries, transcripts and audio playback. The limit is buying: Recruiters, Teams and Enterprises tiers are tailored quotes with no figures shown.
Pick it if you like Metaview's shape but want a different vendor and are happy to buy through sales.
3. Greenhouse Notetaker: best if Greenhouse is your ATS
Greenhouse Notetaker "Records and transcribes supported video interviews, then drafts structured notes and a summary that map to scorecard questions." It joins Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams and ships on the Core, Plus and Pro tiers. Candidates consent when they self-schedule.
The security FAQ is plain about the gaps: phone and in-person interviews aren't supported, and transcription is English only. Those are the 2 places Metaview clearly wins.
Pick it if you run Greenhouse, interview on video in English and want one less vendor. Our Greenhouse pricing guide shows which tier you'd need.
4. Ashby AI Notetaker: best for Ashby customers
Ashby's AI Notetaker "is built directly into Ashby and will automatically record, transcribe, and summarize your meetings with candidates." AI feedback summaries cite the original feedback, so a debrief can trace each point back.
The docs cover Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, but interviews with a phone or custom location aren't recorded, and Zoom calls with end-to-end encryption are out. It's an add-on on Ashby's pricing page.
Pick it if you hire on Ashby and your interviews happen on video. Weighing the ATS itself? See our Ashby alternatives.
5. TestGorilla: best for skills tests, AI interviews and sourcing on a published plan
TestGorilla bills itself as "The proof-first AI recruiting platform" and now sources too, with "Search 900M profiles" on its homepage. Its AI interviews page says "An AI interviewer asks dynamic follow-up questions in the moment," across 3 to 9 structured questions that candidates complete on their own time.
The strength is breadth: skills tests, video questions and AI interviews in one account, with a Trust Layer that validates identity. The limit for a Metaview buyer is that there's no notetaker for your own interviews. Pricing is published, with free plans, sourcing seats and assessment credits.
Pick it if you want tests and an AI interview before the human rounds, bought without a sales call. Our TestGorilla competitors list compares it with other test platforms.
6. HireVue: best for enterprises that want both an AI interviewer and a co-pilot
HireVue lists 70M interviews completed and says 40% of the Fortune 100 use it. Its video interviewing includes "an interview co-pilot" that joins live interviews on your own Zoom or Teams, which is the closest thing here to Metaview's notetaker at enterprise scale.
Its AI Interviewer holds a two-way conversation with probing follow-up questions, scores against your rubric and offers candidates an AI opt-out path. The page doesn't say plainly whether it's voice or video. Pricing is by demo only.
Pick it if you're a large employer that buys through procurement and wants AI interviews and a live-interview co-pilot from one vendor. More in our HireVue review.
7. Employ AI Interview Companion (formerly Pillar): best for live interviewer guidance
Employ's AI Interview Companion is what Pillar became. It guides interviewers during the call, recommends skills-based questions, summarises the conversation and builds interview guides from the job description. It works with Lever, Jobvite and JazzHR.
The limit is stated on the page itself: it "does not provide candidate scoring or hiring recommendations." So it's a coaching and notes tool, not an evaluator.
Pick it if you're on an Employ ATS and your interviewers need prompts in the moment more than scores after.
8. hireEZ: best for agentic sourcing with voice AI screening
hireEZ says "Let agents source" across "a billion-plus profiles, 45+ platforms", and it sells "Voice AI that screen and engage at scale" with an AI Scheduler and a Talent CRM. It sits on top of your ATS rather than replacing it.
It's a Metaview competitor on sourcing and screening, but I didn't find a notetaker for your own interviews on the pages I read. Pricing publishes an entry plan with a 7-day trial for solo recruiters, and Enterprise is custom.
Pick it if sourcing volume is your problem and a voice screen is enough for round 1. See our hireEZ review.
9. Otter.ai: best low-cost notetaker for a small team
Otter.ai's Recruiting Agent promises to "Turn interviews into hiring intelligence" with real-time transcription, summaries and resume summaries. It joins Zoom, Google Meet and Teams, and a desktop app records without a bot.
The limit: it reaches Greenhouse through Zapier, so there's no direct scorecard mapping like Metaview's. Its pricing has a free Basic plan and published per-user plans.
Pick it if you're 1 to 5 recruiters who want transcripts today and no ATS project.
10. Fireflies.ai: best for transcripts across many languages
Fireflies.ai records Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and 10+ other platforms, with English plus 100+ languages in beta. A Chrome extension records without the bot. Its integrations include Greenhouse, Lever and BambooHR.
The limit: it's a general meeting notetaker, so interview notes arrive as meeting summaries rather than filled scorecards. Plans are per seat, published, with a free tier.
Pick it if you interview in several languages and want one notetaker for sales and team calls too.
Metaview vs The Cognitive: which should run your interviews?
They overlap less than the names suggest. Metaview is mainly a notetaker for interviews your team runs, with an AI voice screen and a sourcing agent added. The Cognitive is a sourcing tool with a live AI video interview, and it doesn't take notes on your calls.
- Human interviews: Metaview records Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex, phone and in person. The Cognitive doesn't.
- AI first round: Metaview's screen is a voice call the candidate takes whenever they like, with video optional. The Cognitive's is a live, two-way video interview at a slot the candidate books.
- Report: Metaview scores each call against your rubric. The Cognitive gives 1 to 5 per criterion, overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict and resume claim checks.
- Languages: Metaview's screen lists 18. The Cognitive runs in 9.
- Buying: both publish prices and let you start without a sales call.
My honest read: if your pain is writing up human interviews, keep Metaview. If it's the number of first-round calls, The Cognitive takes that round off the calendar. Our Metaview review goes through its agents one by one.
Metaview vs BrightHire: which is better?
Pick Metaview if your interviews happen everywhere: it covers 4 video platforms plus phone and in person, and publishes per-user prices with a free plan. Pick BrightHire if you want a sales-led rollout and an AI screen that can run as video. BrightHire's pricing page names Zoom, Teams and Meet, with tailored quotes. Metaview also sources, which matters only if you'd use it.
Is Metaview worth it in 2026?
For notes on human interviews, yes, on what its site shows. Coverage is the widest here, scorecards post to your ATS, and the free plan lets you test it on real interviews. It's less of a fit if you bought it to cut first-round hours, because its AI screen is voice-led and async, or if you only want transcripts and won't use the sourcing and screening agents. I haven't read its G2 reviews for this page, so I'm not quoting a rating.
Who is The Cognitive built for?
We built The Cognitive for recruiters whose first round eats the week: in-house teams with more applicants than calendar, and small agencies that want a candidate heard before they submit them. It fits professional roles, where 20 minutes of conversation tells you more than the resume.
- Keep your ATS. Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby or Workday stays the system of record, and the interview note lands on candidates you imported from it.
- Pair it with a notetaker. Metaview, BrightHire or your ATS's own notetaker covers the human rounds after The Cognitive's first round.
How is Metaview priced, and how do the alternatives charge?
Metaview's pricing says "Pick what you need. Pay for what you use." There's a Free plan, Pro and Max plans charged per user per month with prices shown, and a custom Enterprise plan. The notetaker is included across plans, and Reports is a flat-fee add-on.
- Published per-user or per-seat plans with a free tier: Metaview, Otter.ai, Fireflies.ai and TestGorilla.
- Inside an ATS plan or add-on: Greenhouse Notetaker and Ashby AI Notetaker.
- Custom quote: BrightHire, HireVue and Employ.
- Published entry plan plus custom Enterprise: hireEZ.
- Monthly self-serve plans: The Cognitive, where AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, cancel anytime. Search costs 1 credit per candidate returned, 5 to reveal an email and 10 to reveal a phone number, charged only when a value comes back.
For a free Metaview alternative, Otter.ai, Fireflies.ai and TestGorilla have free plans. The Cognitive starts with a free trial with 100 sourcing credits.
How do you test a Metaview alternative before you switch?
For notes, run 5 real interviews through Metaview and the challenger side by side, with candidate consent, including a phone screen if you do them. Give both sets of notes to a hiring manager unlabelled and ask which one they'd decide from.
For an AI first round, pick a role you filled last quarter. Invite 10 past applicants you know well and compare the scores and resume claim checks with what you learned the slow way. Our interview intelligence platforms list covers notetakers in more depth, and the AI interviewer guide explains how a live AI interview works.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best Metaview alternatives in 2026?
The best Metaview alternatives in 2026 are The Cognitive for an AI-run first round on video, BrightHire for a like-for-like swap, and Greenhouse Notetaker or Ashby AI Notetaker if you already use those ATSs. The Cognitive holds a live, two-way AI video interview and returns 1 to 5 scores per criterion, overall written feedback, a transcript and a recording. TestGorilla, HireVue, Employ's AI Interview Companion, hireEZ, Otter.ai and Fireflies.ai round out the list.
Metaview vs The Cognitive for interviews: which is better?
Metaview is better for notes on interviews your team runs, and The Cognitive is better if you want AI to run the first round on video. Metaview records Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex, phone and in-person interviews, and its AI screen is a voice call candidates take whenever they like. The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview at a slot the candidate books and checks up to 5 resume claims the AI chose to probe. It doesn't take notes on your own calls, so some teams use both.
Metaview vs BrightHire: which should I pick?
Pick Metaview if you interview on many platforms and want published prices; pick BrightHire if you want a sales-led rollout and an AI screen that can run on video. Metaview's notetaker covers 4 video platforms, phone and in person, with a free plan. BrightHire lists Zoom, Teams and Meet, and BrightHire Screen runs async as voice-only or video. BrightHire's tiers are tailored quotes.
Who are Metaview's main competitors?
Metaview's main competitors are BrightHire for interview intelligence, Greenhouse and Ashby for notetakers built into an ATS, and The Cognitive, TestGorilla, HireVue and hireEZ for AI first-round interviews. The Cognitive and TestGorilla also source candidates, as Metaview now does. Otter.ai and Fireflies.ai compete on general meeting transcripts.
How much does Metaview cost?
Metaview charges per user per month, publishes its prices and has a free plan. Its pricing page lists Free, Pro and Max plans plus a custom Enterprise plan, with the notetaker included and Reports as a flat-fee add-on. For comparison, The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans you can cancel anytime.
Is Metaview worth it?
Metaview is worth it if your main need is notes on human interviews, because its coverage of video, phone and in-person interviews is the widest of the tools I checked. It's a weaker fit if you bought it to cut first-round hours, since its AI screen is a voice call taken async. In that case an AI video interviewer such as The Cognitive, or BrightHire Screen, may suit you better.
Is there a free Metaview alternative?
Yes: Otter.ai, Fireflies.ai and TestGorilla all have free plans. Otter.ai and Fireflies.ai record and transcribe interviews on Zoom, Meet and Teams, and TestGorilla's free plan includes limited AI interviews. The Cognitive starts with a free trial with 100 sourcing credits.
Does Metaview do AI interviews?
Yes, Metaview runs AI screening interviews as voice calls. Candidates take the call whenever suits them, on phone or desktop, and every call is recorded, transcribed and scored against your rubric, with video optional. The Cognitive's AI interview is a live, two-way video conversation of 10 or 20 minutes at a slot the candidate books.
What is the best Metaview alternative for Greenhouse or Ashby users?
If you only need notes, use the notetaker already built into your ATS: Greenhouse Notetaker or Ashby AI Notetaker. Both record Zoom, Meet and Teams, and neither records phone interviews. If you want the first round run by AI, The Cognitive connects to Greenhouse, Ashby and 60+ other ATSs and writes a note with the score, summary and report link back to candidates imported from the ATS.
Does The Cognitive record Zoom interviews like Metaview?
No, The Cognitive doesn't join or record your Zoom, Teams or Meet calls. It runs its own live AI video interview, which candidates join from the invitation link, and keeps the transcript and recording of that interview. For notes on your human rounds, pair it with Metaview, BrightHire or your ATS's notetaker.
