Ashby Alternatives in 2026: 10 Recruiting Platforms, From Sourcing to Interview

The best Ashby alternative in 2026 depends on what you're trying to fix: The Cognitive is the sourcing and interview layer that fills whichever applicant tracking system (ATS) you pick, and Greenhouse is the closest full replacement for Ashby itself. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief, then runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you choose. Among the other Ashby competitors, Lever pairs an ATS with a CRM, Workable publishes its prices, and Dover gives founding teams a free ATS.

Ashby's own data shows why teams go looking. Its 2026 Recruiter Productivity report found the average recruiter now processes 291 applications per hire, up from roughly 100 in early 2021. A different ATS will hold those 291 applications just as well. So work out first whether your problem is the system of record or the people going into it.

The best Ashby alternatives in 2026

  1. The Cognitive: best overall, for finding new candidates and interviewing them live with AI, next to Ashby or any ATS.
  2. Greenhouse: best for structured hiring with a large integration network.
  3. Lever: best for ATS and CRM in one, sold by quote.
  4. Gem: best for a big outside sourcing database, as an all-in-one or on top of another ATS.
  5. Workable: best for small and mid-sized teams that want a published price and a free trial.
  6. Teamtailor: best for employer branding and careers sites.
  7. Pinpoint: best for running several hiring streams side by side.
  8. Tellent Recruitee: best for teams that want a lighter ATS and a free trial.
  9. Dover: best for founding teams that want a free ATS and recruiters on demand.
  10. BambooHR: best for small companies that want HR and basic hiring in one tool.

Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive, and it isn't an ATS. I put it first on a test you can check: it's the only tool here that finds people outside your database and runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them, in an account you can open without a sales call, at a published price. Numbers 2 to 10 are ATSs or ATS-plus-services, ranked by how well each replaces Ashby for a typical Ashby buyer; that order is my judgment. I have not used the other 9 on a paid account. What I say about them comes from their own websites, read on 3 October 2026.

What do Ashby reviews say?

Ashby reviews are very good. It holds 4.7 out of 5 from 200 reviews on G2 (read 3 October 2026), ahead of Greenhouse at 4.4 from 4,035 and Lever at 4.3 from 2,124 on the same page. "Ease of Use" is its top tagged strength, 24 times. The complaints cluster in 3 places:

If your complaint is the last one, you may not need a new ATS at all. If you do, our wider list of applicant tracking system software covers more than the 9 here.

What is Ashby ATS, and what does it do well?

Ashby is recruiting software that puts an ATS, a CRM and sourcing, interview scheduling and analytics in one product. Its homepage says "What an ATS should be", and its Lever comparison claims 4,000+ customers, with over 100 organizations switching from Lever in the last year. Its company profile names native recruiting analytics as the thing that makes it different, and G2 reviewers praise the reporting more than anything else.

The sourcing side is narrower than it sounds. Per its pricing page, Ashby gives you a Sourcing Chrome Extension, 200 email lookups a month on every plan, and sequences "across email and LinkedIn InMail". Its AI Candidate Search builds filters from a typed prompt, and AI Talent Rediscovery surfaces past candidates "in your database". There's no outside profile database: new people come in through the extension or your inbound.

Ashby AI covers application review, fraud detection, scheduling and an assistant. The AI Notetaker records, transcribes and summarizes interviews your team runs, and it's a paid add-on. An AI Interviewer that runs "structured interviews via real-time voice" is on a waitlist. If Ashby already works for you, our Ashby integration is the way to fill it.

How do the Ashby alternatives compare?

Here is how they stack up. I filled in every cell from the vendor's own site on 3 October 2026:

How did we rank these Ashby alternatives?

I started from the vendors that sit next to Ashby in buyer searches and on G2's alternatives list, then kept 9 that an Ashby customer, or a startup weighing Ashby, could move to. Ashby sells its Foundations plan to companies of up to 100 employees, so I weighted startup fit higher than I would for an enterprise list.

The Cognitive is first on 4 tests anyone can rerun: it finds people outside your database; it runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them; you can open an account without a sales call; the price is on the website. Workable and Dover pass the last 2, but Workable's video interview is one-way, per its help centre, and Dover runs no AI interview. Greenhouse's Voice AI is two-way, but by voice and through a demo.

For the 9 ATSs, I asked how much of an Ashby-style process survives the move. Greenhouse and Lever keep the most. I couldn't test anything behind a paid login.

How do you choose an Ashby alternative?

Do you need a new ATS, or more candidates in the one you have?

Look at where last year's hires came from. Ashby's State of Startup Hiring report (February 2026) found sourcing is the second biggest source of startup hires after inbound, and the smallest startups get 30% of their hires from sourcing. If your sourced pipeline is thin, keep Ashby and add a sourcing layer. If the workflow itself frustrates you, switch.

Is Ashby worth it under 50 employees?

It can be, if you hire every month and want reporting from day one. Ashby's Foundations plan covers companies up to 100 employees with a price you can see before calling. The catch is setup: G2's top complaint is the learning curve, and reviewers on small teams call the first lift heavy. If you'll make 4 hires this year, Dover's free ATS or Workable's 15-day trial is less to carry.

What's the best Ashby alternative for a smaller startup?

For a seed-stage team, Dover is the cheapest start: its ATS is free with unlimited users and jobs, and you can hire a fractional recruiter from its marketplace when you need one. Gem gives companies under 30 employees its All-in-One plan "free for six months, then 50% off". Workable and Tellent Recruitee both offer free trials. Read our guide to ATS options for small businesses for more.

Is there an Ashby alternative with AI sourcing?

Yes, 2 of the ATSs here search outside profiles: Gem's AI Sourcing Agent searches 800M+ and Workable's agent searches 400M+. Ashby, Teamtailor, Tellent Recruitee and Pinpoint search the people already in your system, plus a browser extension for adding new ones. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles and works next to whichever ATS you choose, so the sourcing decision doesn't lock in the ATS decision.

How does Ashby compare with Greenhouse and Lever?

Ashby vs Greenhouse

Ashby pitches one system against "an ecosystem of disparate tools and endless integrations", per its Greenhouse comparison. Greenhouse leans on 500+ integrations and sells every plan by demo. Pick Ashby for built-in reporting, Greenhouse if your integrations already work. Full verdict in Greenhouse vs Ashby, and see our Greenhouse alternatives if you're leaving Greenhouse instead.

Ashby vs Lever

For a startup weighing price and features, Ashby is easier to compare because it shows a Foundations price; Lever's pricing is "available upon request". Lever sells ATS and CRM in one with unlimited AI interview transcripts, and it's part of Employ alongside JazzHR. Ashby leads on reporting, by its own account and in its reviews. See Lever vs Ashby for the full comparison and our Lever alternatives guide.

Ashby and Lever don't search outside profiles for you, and Greenhouse only partly does, with prospecting tools on its Pro plan. That's the gap The Cognitive fills for any of the 3.

The 10 best Ashby alternatives, reviewed

1. The Cognitive: best overall, for finding new candidates and interviewing them live with AI

The Cognitive is AI recruiting software that sources candidates across ~900M public profiles and interviews them live with AI. It works next to Ashby, or whichever ATS you move to, and fills it with people worth meeting.

You describe the role in plain English and it reads the brief into filters you can edit. When I typed "Senior backend engineer with 5+ years of Go who has built payments systems, Remote EU", it read "Remote EU" as Germany plus 7 other countries. Everyone found is judged against your must-haves, and anyone who misses one drops below the people who meet them. Each result card opens with a "Why this match" line traced to the profile, such as "Go listed in skills".

Search costs 1 credit per candidate a search returns, 5 to reveal an email and 10 to reveal a phone number, charged only when a value comes back. Unlike Ashby's email lookups, this finds people who aren't in your database yet. Sourcing Pro adds email and SMS sequences, sent from platform mailboxes. Then the people you pick get a live AI interview, covered below.

It has 60+ ATS integrations, including Ashby, Greenhouse, Lever, Workable, Teamtailor, Pinpoint, Tellent Recruitee, BambooHR and Gem. For candidates imported from your ATS, it writes a note back with the interview score, summary and report link. People sourced inside The Cognitive aren't pushed into the ATS automatically. And it isn't an ATS: no job posting, careers page, offers or funnel analytics, and no search of your ATS history.

Pick it if you like Ashby but the pipeline is thin, or you want round 1 done before your team spends an hour. More on the AI sourcing tool page.

2. Greenhouse: best for structured hiring with a large integration network

Greenhouse is the ATS Ashby compares itself to most. Every plan includes "Structured interview kits & scorecards", "Sourcing & CRM" and an AI Notetaker, and Pro adds a prospecting Chrome plugin and contact lookups. Its Voice AI "runs a two-way voice interview on the candidate's schedule", in 11 languages.

The limit: there's no price anywhere on the site. Cost depends on the plan, "hiring volume and organizational complexity", and each plan sits behind "Get a demo". Our Greenhouse pricing guide explains what drives the quote.

Pick it if you need many integrations and a structured process your hiring managers already know.

3. Lever: best for ATS and CRM in one, sold by quote

Lever sells "ATS & CRM in one", with AI-powered screening, fraud signals and unlimited AI interview transcripts in the core platform. Its "AI Screening by VONQ" add-on runs "agent-based screening embedded directly into your career site". Lever says "Most customers are fully implemented within weeks, not months".

The limit: every price is a custom quote, so you can't set it against Ashby's Foundations price without a sales call. Our Lever review covers what the quote usually bundles.

Pick it if nurturing past candidates matters as much as tracking applicants.

4. Gem: best for a big outside sourcing database, as an all-in-one or on top of another ATS

Gem started as a sourcing and CRM tool and now sells an ATS too. Its AI Sourcing Agent searches 800M+ profiles, which is the one thing Ashby can't match, and Gem says its ATS is "best for growing teams with up to a few thousand employees". It also "integrates natively with Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, iCIMS" if you'd rather keep an ATS.

The limit: pricing is custom "Based on your company's FTE count", apart from the startup offer. More in our Gem review and Gem alternatives guide.

Pick it if you want Ashby's all-in-one shape plus a large outside database, or you're under 30 people and want the free months.

5. Workable: best for small and mid-sized teams that want a published price and a free trial

Workable calls itself "agentic software for recruiting and HR" and says 35,000+ teams use it. Its agent searches 400M+ profiles. Prices are on the pricing page by employee band, annual billing saves 20%, and the 15-day trial needs no credit card.

The limit: texting and video interviews are add-ons, and the video interview is one-way. Our Workable alternatives list compares it with similar tools.

Pick it if you want to see the price before the demo and like having HR tools in the same system.

6. Teamtailor: best for employer branding and careers sites

Teamtailor is an ATS built around the candidate side, "Trusted by over 13,000 companies worldwide", with 450+ integrations. Every plan gives "Unlimited job postings and unlimited users". Its AI Co-pilot searches your talent pool for matches and screens applicants against your criteria. G2 rates it 4.6 out of 5 from 581 reviews (read 3 October 2026).

The limit: sourcing is a browser extension plus your own talent pool, and pricing is by quote. See our alternatives to Teamtailor if branding isn't your priority.

Pick it if most of your hires come through your careers site and you want every colleague in the system.

7. Pinpoint: best for running several hiring streams side by side

Pinpoint calls itself "The ATS built for multi-stream hiring": separate workflows, branding and reporting for, say, early careers and executive roles in one system. It includes one-way video interviews, an AI Notetaker and an AI Candidate Companion that answers candidates' questions on your careers site.

The limit: there's no public price. Its pricing page asks for "a short conversation" before it quotes.

Pick it if you run high-volume and professional hiring at the same time and want each kept apart.

8. Tellent Recruitee: best for teams that want a lighter ATS and a free trial

Tellent Recruitee says 7,000+ companies use it. Its pricing page lists 3 plans, from Start, "For early-stage teams building their hiring foundation", up to Optimize, each with a free trial. Its AI Matching Assistant turns "your ATS database into an active talent pool", with a monthly cap on searches.

The limit: no plan shows a price, and the AI search covers your own database only.

Pick it if Ashby's depth is more than you'll use and you want to try a simpler ATS before you talk to anyone.

9. Dover: best for founding teams that want a free ATS and recruiters on demand

Dover today is 2 things: a marketplace of fractional recruiters for startups, and a free ATS. The ATS has unlimited users and jobs and needs "No credit card or payment required". A free Chrome extension finds emails and sends outreach. The Premium ATS adds AI applicant scoring and AI note taking at a monthly price shown on its pricing page.

The limit: AI scoring and notes need Premium, and Dover isn't on The Cognitive's integration list.

Pick it if you're making your first 10 hires and Ashby feels like more system than you need.

10. BambooHR: best for small companies that want HR and basic hiring in one tool

BambooHR is an HR system first. Its Core plan includes hiring and onboarding: candidate records, job posting and offer letter templates, with candidate self-scheduling and 150+ integrations on its ATS page. Pricing is "per employee, per month", with figures shown.

The limit: it lists no sourcing CRM or outreach sequences like Ashby's.

Pick it if you hire a few people a year and HR matters more than recruiting.

Which Ashby alternatives include AI interviews?

Ashby doesn't have one yet. Its AI Notetaker records the interviews your team runs, and its voice AI Interviewer is waitlisted. Among the 9 alternatives, Greenhouse sells a two-way Voice AI by demo, Workable and Pinpoint offer one-way video, and Lever sells career-site screening by VONQ. Gem, Teamtailor, Tellent Recruitee, Dover and BambooHR list no AI interviewer.

The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you sourced or imported: 10 or 20 minutes, in any of 9 languages. Candidates book their own slot without an account, and the invitation tells them the interview is run by AI. The rubric is fixed for the role and the questions adapt to each answer. You get a 1 to 5 score per criterion plus overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the transcript and the recording. Nothing is rejected automatically, and integrity flags are logged, not scored.

The 5-minute recording above is a live AI interview for a go-to-market role. The AI asks about an outbound email campaign, then follows up on reply rates and how leads were qualified. More on the AI interviewer page.

How much does Ashby cost?

Ashby pricing depends on company size. The Foundations plan, for up to 100 employees, shows a monthly total once you pick your headcount band on the pricing page, with 10% off for an annual commitment. The Plus plan (101 to 1,000 employees) and Enterprise plan are by contact, and Ashby says that pricing "is based on company size, usage, and commitment". Its Greenhouse comparison also calls the model seat-based.

Budget for the extras. The AI Notetaker is a paid add-on on every plan, as are Advanced Scheduling and email lookups beyond the 200 included each month, and SSO costs extra on Foundations. If you're switching from another ATS, Ashby says it can "migrate in days, not months" and offers contract buyouts to companies that qualify. For how other ATSs charge, see our guide to ATS pricing models.

The alternatives use 5 pricing models:

The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans you can cancel anytime. It sits next to your ATS, so budget for it on top of whichever ATS you keep. Details on our pricing page.

The Cognitive has a free trial with 100 sourcing credits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best alternative to Ashby?

The best Ashby alternative depends on what you need to fix: The Cognitive if you need more good candidates, Greenhouse if you need a new ATS. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles and runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you pick, next to Ashby or any ATS you move to. Greenhouse is the closest full replacement for structured hiring, and Lever and Gem are the next strongest ATS options.

Who are Ashby's main competitors?

Ashby's main competitors are Greenhouse, Lever and Gem, with Workable, Teamtailor, Pinpoint, Tellent Recruitee, Dover and BambooHR for smaller or different needs. Ashby's own comparison pages target Greenhouse, Lever and SmartRecruiters. The Cognitive competes on a different job: it finds and interviews candidates for whichever of these ATSs you run.

What is a good Ashby alternative for a smaller startup?

Dover is the cheapest Ashby alternative for a small startup, because its ATS is free with unlimited users and jobs. Gem gives companies under 30 employees its All-in-One plan free for six months, then 50% off, and Workable and Tellent Recruitee both offer free trials. If the startup mainly needs candidates, The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans.

Is Ashby worth it under 50 employees?

Ashby is worth it under 50 employees if you hire every month and want reporting from day one. Its Foundations plan covers companies up to 100 employees with a price shown on the site, but G2's top complaint is the learning curve, and small-team reviewers describe a heavy setup. For a handful of hires a year, Dover's free ATS or Workable's 15-day trial is lighter, and The Cognitive can fill either with sourced, interviewed candidates.

How much does Ashby cost?

Ashby pricing depends on company size: the Foundations plan for up to 100 employees shows a monthly price on its site, and larger plans are by contact. Ashby says Plus and Enterprise pricing is based on company size, usage and commitment, and offers 10% off for annual commitments. The AI Notetaker, Advanced Scheduling and extra email lookups are paid add-ons. The Cognitive, which works next to Ashby, publishes its prices: AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month.

Ashby vs Greenhouse vs Lever: which should I pick?

Pick Ashby for built-in reporting in one system, Greenhouse for structured hiring with 500+ integrations, and Lever for ATS and CRM in one. Ashby is the only one of the 3 that shows a price, for companies up to 100 employees; Greenhouse and Lever sell by quote. None of them has a large outside profile database, which is the gap The Cognitive fills for any of the 3.

Is there an Ashby alternative with AI sourcing?

Yes. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief and works next to whichever ATS you keep. Among ATSs, Gem's AI Sourcing Agent searches 800M+ profiles and Workable's agent searches 400M+. Ashby itself offers a Chrome sourcing extension, 200 email lookups a month and AI search over the candidates already in Ashby.

Is there an Ashby alternative with AI interviews?

Yes. The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes, in 9 languages, and gives you a 1 to 5 score per criterion, a weighted score out of 100, the transcript and the recording. Ashby's AI Notetaker only records interviews your team runs, and its voice AI Interviewer is on a waitlist. Greenhouse sells a two-way Voice AI by demo, and Workable and Pinpoint offer one-way video.
