Greenhouse Alternatives in 2026: 10 ATS and Hiring Platforms for Growing Teams
By Sparsh Goyal, Founder at The Cognitive. Published · Last updated
- Top picks: The Cognitive to fill whichever ATS you choose, Ashby as the closest full Greenhouse replacement, Lever for ATS and CRM in one, Workable for published prices, Gem for sourcing on top of Greenhouse.
- The Cognitive is the only tool here that finds people outside your database and runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them, in a self-serve account at a published price; Greenhouse sells by demo with no published price.
- Pick Workday, SmartRecruiters or iCIMS if a bigger HR platform decision is already made, and BambooHR if you hire a few people a year.
- I run The Cognitive. The other 9 are judged from their own websites, read on 3 October 2026.
The best Greenhouse alternative in 2026 depends on the job you need done: The Cognitive is the sourcing and interview layer that fills whichever applicant tracking system (ATS) you pick, and Ashby is the closest full replacement for Greenhouse itself. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief, then runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you choose. Among the other Greenhouse competitors, Lever pairs an ATS with a CRM, Workable publishes its prices for small teams, and Gem adds outside sourcing on top of Greenhouse or replaces it.
Check the numbers before you swap systems. Greenhouse's own March 2026 benchmark report found applications per role rose from roughly 115 in 2022 to 244 in 2025, while recruiters per organization fell 55.6%. A new ATS won't shrink that pile. So decide first whether your problem is the system of record or the people flowing into it.
The best Greenhouse alternatives in 2026
- The Cognitive: best overall, for finding new candidates and interviewing them live with AI, next to any ATS.
- Ashby: best for an all-in-one ATS, CRM and analytics that replaces Greenhouse outright.
- Lever: best for ATS and CRM in one, sold by quote.
- Workable: best for small companies that want a published price and a free trial.
- Gem: best for outside sourcing and a CRM on top of Greenhouse, or a startup all-in-one.
- Teamtailor: best for employer branding and careers sites.
- SmartRecruiters: best for enterprises on SAP SuccessFactors.
- Workday Recruiting: best for companies already running Workday HR.
- iCIMS: best for large, high-volume enterprise hiring.
- BambooHR: best for small companies that want HR and basic hiring in one tool.
Full disclosure: I run The Cognitive, and it isn't an ATS. I put it first on a test you can check: it's the only tool here that finds people outside your database and runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them, in an account you can open without a sales call, at a published price. Numbers 2 to 10 are ATSs or ATS suites, ranked by how well each replaces Greenhouse for a typical Greenhouse buyer; that order is my judgment. I have not used the other 9 on a paid account. What I say about them comes from their own websites, read on 3 October 2026.
What do Greenhouse ATS reviews say?
Greenhouse is well liked. It holds 4.4 out of 5 from 4,035 reviews on G2 (read 3 October 2026), and "Ease of Use" is its most tagged strength, 664 times. The complaints cluster in a few places:
- Customization and reporting. G2 tags "Limited Customization" 305 times. A small-business reviewer wrote in September 2026 that "Custom reporting is the main friction point".
- Gaps and setup. "Missing Features" shows up 206 times and "Learning Curve" 168 times, and G2's reviewer average for time to implement is 2 months.
- Integrations that stop short. A head of HR said in September 2026 that the HRIS link moves some data but not all, so her team still copies details by hand.
Few complaints touch the core job of tracking candidates, so check that a new ATS fixes your actual complaint.
What is Greenhouse, and what does it do well?
Greenhouse is an ATS and hiring platform built around structured hiring. Its homepage leads with "Better signal. Human judgment. One platform.", and its company profile says it is used by more than 7,500 companies.
Every plan includes "Structured interview kits & scorecards" and "Sourcing & CRM". Plus adds sourcing automation and texting. Greenhouse cites 500+ integrations, and since buying Ezra AI Labs in May 2026 it also sells Voice AI interviews. If that setup works for you, you may only need to fill it better, which is what our Greenhouse integration is for.
How do the Greenhouse alternatives compare?
Here is how they stack up. I filled in every cell from the vendor's own site on 3 October 2026:
| Tool | Best for | Finds people outside your database? | AI interview? | Pricing model (published?) | Connects to The Cognitive? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Cognitive | Sourcing, then interviewing, next to your ATS | Yes, ~900M public profiles | Live two-way video, 9 languages | Monthly plans with credits (yes) | It's the layer |
| Ashby | All-in-one ATS, CRM, analytics | No; AI search runs over your Ashby data | No; AI notetaker | By company size (Foundations plan only) | Yes |
| Lever | ATS and CRM in one | None listed | Career-site screening add-on | Custom quote (no) | Yes |
| Workable | Small teams, published price | Yes, 400M+ profiles via its agent | One-way video add-on | By employee band (yes) | Yes |
| Gem | Sourcing and CRM on Greenhouse | Yes, 800M+ profiles | No | Custom, by FTE count (no) | Yes |
| Teamtailor | Employer brand, careers sites | No; manual sourcing extension | No; AI screening on paper | Quote (no) | Yes |
| SmartRecruiters | Enterprises on SAP | None listed | AI screening and chat, upper plans | Starting price on Essential only | Yes |
| Workday Recruiting | Companies on Workday HR | None listed | Conversational AI for scheduling | Contact sales (no) | Yes |
| iCIMS | High-volume enterprise | Sourcing Agent, scope not stated | No; AI interview questions | Talk to sales (no) | Yes |
| BambooHR | HR plus basic hiring | No | No | Per employee per month (Core shown) | Yes |
Greenhouse's own row: partly, through prospecting; two-way voice AI by demo; custom pricing with no figure on the site.
How did we rank these Greenhouse alternatives?
I started from the vendors that appear next to Greenhouse in buyer searches and in G2's comparison list, then kept 9 that a Greenhouse customer could actually move to or add. That rules out tools built for agencies; SmartRecruiters even says it is "not supporting agency organizations".
The Cognitive is first on 4 tests anyone can rerun: it finds people outside your database; it runs a live, two-way AI video interview with them; you can open an account without a sales call; the price is on the website. Workable passes 3, but its video interview is one-way, per its help centre. Greenhouse's Voice AI is two-way, but by voice and through a demo.
For the 9 ATSs, I asked how much of a Greenhouse-style structured process would survive the move. Ashby and Lever keep the most; Workday, iCIMS and SmartRecruiters fit when a bigger HR decision is already made. I couldn't test anything behind a paid login.
How do you choose a Greenhouse alternative?
Do you need a new ATS, or more candidates in the one you have?
Count where your hires came from last year. Gem's 2026 recruiting benchmarks found job boards and company channels bring roughly 90% of applications but only about half of hires, and sourced candidates are nearly 8 times more likely to be hired than inbound applicants. If your shortlist is the problem, keep Greenhouse and add a sourcing layer. If the workflow is the problem, switch ATS, and start from our list of applicant tracking system software.
Greenhouse for startups: what's cheaper?
Greenhouse doesn't publish a price, so a startup can't compare without a demo. Ashby shows a monthly price for its Foundations plan up to 100 employees, Workable shows prices by employee band with a 15-day trial, and Gem gives companies under 30 employees its All-in-One plan "free for six months, then 50% off". Under 30 people, start there. Read our guide to ATS options for small businesses for more.
Is Greenhouse worth it for a 50-person company?
It can be, if you hire steadily and want scorecards from day one. G2 reviewers average 2 months to implement it, which is a lot of setup for 5 hires a year. At 50 people, Ashby's Foundations plan and Workable cover structured interviews at a price you can see first. SmartRecruiters says it is "best suited for organizations with at least 50 employees", which puts a 50-person company at the bottom edge of the enterprise tools.
Do you want AI sourcing inside the ATS?
Only 2 of the ATS options here list an outside profile database: Workable's agent searches 400M+ profiles and Gem searches 800M+. Ashby's AI search builds filters from a typed prompt, but it searches people already in Ashby. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles and works next to whichever ATS you choose, so the sourcing decision doesn't lock in the ATS decision.
Who runs the first interview?
Greenhouse's benchmark shows annual applications per recruiter up 411.8% since 2022. An ATS organizes those people but doesn't talk to them, so decide who handles round 1 before you compare ATS features.
How does Greenhouse compare with Ashby, Lever, Workday and Workable?
Ashby vs Greenhouse
Ashby pitches one system against "an ecosystem of disparate tools and endless integrations"; Greenhouse leans on its partner network. Pick Ashby for built-in reporting, Greenhouse if your integrations already work. Full verdict in Greenhouse vs Ashby.
Greenhouse vs Lever
Lever's pitch is ATS and CRM in one, with "Unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries". Greenhouse's is structured hiring. Both sell by quote, so let your hiring managers judge the demos. See Greenhouse vs Lever, and Lever vs Ashby if you're deciding between the challengers.
Greenhouse vs Workday
Workday Recruiting makes sense when HR already runs on Workday and you want one vendor for hiring and HR. Greenhouse is the recruiting specialist, and it connects to HR systems through its integrations. We compare them in detail in Greenhouse vs Workday.
Workable vs Greenhouse
Workable is the cheaper, faster start, with published prices, a 15-day trial and an HR suite in the same system. Greenhouse goes deeper on structured hiring and governance. On G2, both score 4.4 out of 5 (Workable from 706 reviews).
The 10 best Greenhouse alternatives, reviewed
1. The Cognitive: best overall, for finding new candidates and interviewing them live with AI
The Cognitive is AI recruiting software that sources candidates across ~900M public profiles and interviews them live with AI. It works next to Greenhouse, or whichever ATS you move to, and fills it with people worth meeting.
You describe the role in plain English and it reads the brief into filters you can edit. When I typed "Senior backend engineer with 5+ years of Go who has built payments systems, Remote EU", it read "Remote EU" as Germany plus 7 other countries. Everyone found is judged against your must-haves, and anyone who misses one drops below the people who meet them. Each result card opens with a "Why this match" line traced to the profile, such as "Go listed in skills".
Search costs 1 credit per candidate a search returns, 5 to reveal an email and 10 to reveal a phone number, charged only when a value comes back. Sourcing Pro adds email and SMS sequences, sent from platform mailboxes. Then the people you pick get a live AI interview, covered below.
It has 60+ ATS integrations, including Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday, Workable, SmartRecruiters, iCIMS and Teamtailor. For candidates imported from your ATS, it writes a note back with the interview score, summary and report link. People sourced inside The Cognitive aren't pushed into the ATS automatically. And it isn't an ATS: no job posting, careers page, offers or funnel analytics, and no search of your ATS history.
Pick it if you're tempted to switch ATS because the pipeline is thin, or you want round 1 done before your team spends an hour. More on the AI sourcing tool page.
Fill Greenhouse with people worth interviewing Describe the role in plain English, judge every match against your must-haves, and interview the people you pick, live, with AI. Start free
2. Ashby: best for an all-in-one ATS, CRM and analytics that replaces Greenhouse outright
Ashby combines ATS, CRM and sourcing, scheduling and analytics, and says it has "over 4,000 active customers". Its sequences run "across email and LinkedIn InMail", it includes 200 email lookups a month, and its AI notetaker records and summarizes interviews. It also wins on switching: Ashby says you can "migrate in days, not months", and offers contract buyouts to companies that qualify. G2 lists it at 4.7 out of 5 from 200 reviews (read 3 October 2026).
The limit: only the Foundations plan, up to 100 employees, shows a price. Above that, pricing "is based on company size, usage, and commitment".
Pick it if you want to leave Greenhouse for one system that does more out of the box.
3. Lever: best for ATS and CRM in one, sold by quote
Lever sells "ATS & CRM in one", with AI-powered screening, fraud signals and unlimited AI interview transcripts in the core platform. Its "AI Screening by VONQ" add-on runs "agent-based screening embedded directly into your career site". G2 gives it 4.3 out of 5 from 2,124 reviews (read 3 October 2026).
The limit: every price is a custom quote, so you can't compare it with Greenhouse without 2 sales calls.
Pick it if nurturing past candidates matters as much as tracking applicants. Read our Lever review and Lever alternatives guide.
4. Workable: best for small companies that want a published price and a free trial
Workable calls itself "agentic software for recruiting and HR" and says 35,000+ teams use it. Its prices are on the site by employee band, annual billing saves 20%, and the 15-day trial needs no credit card. The Workable Agent searches 400M+ profiles and "runs on AI credits".
The limit: texting and video interviews are add-ons on Standard, and the video interview is one-way.
Pick it if you're a small or mid-sized company that wants to see the price before the demo. See our Workable alternatives.
5. Gem: best for outside sourcing and a CRM on top of Greenhouse, or a startup all-in-one
Gem started as a sourcing and CRM tool and now sells an ATS too. Its AI Sourcing Agent searches 800M+ profiles, and it "integrates natively with Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, iCIMS". Its own Greenhouse page puts it this way: Greenhouse tracks applicants, Gem finds the people who haven't applied. Gem ATS is "best for growing teams with up to a few thousand employees".
The limit: pricing is custom by FTE count, except the startup offer. More in our Gem alternatives guide.
Pick it if you want a big sourcing database next to Greenhouse, or you're under 30 people and want the free months.
6. Teamtailor: best for employer branding and careers sites
Teamtailor is an ATS built around the candidate side, "Trusted by over 13,000 companies worldwide", with 450+ integrations. Every plan gives "Unlimited job postings and unlimited users". Its AI Co-pilot screens applicants against your criteria, suggests past candidates and summarizes recorded video meetings.
The limit: sourcing is a browser extension where you add people by hand, and pricing is by quote.
Pick it if most of your hires come through your careers site and you want every colleague in the system. Our Teamtailor alternatives guide has the full picture.
7. SmartRecruiters: best for enterprises on SAP SuccessFactors
SmartRecruiters is now "part of SAP SuccessFactors" and says it serves over 4,000 customers. The High Volume plan adds "AI-powered Candidate Screening" and "Conversational AI Chat", and messaging covers SMS and WhatsApp. The Essential plan shows a starting price; the other 3 plans are by request.
The limit: it says it suits "organizations with at least 50 employees" and doesn't support agencies.
Pick it if your HR runs on SAP and you want recruiting from the same family.
8. Workday Recruiting: best for companies already running Workday HR
Workday sells recruiting as part of its Talent Acquisition suite, with "HiredScore AI for Recruiting" and a "Candidate Experience agent powered by Paradox" that uses conversational AI to speed up interview scheduling. Workday was named a Leader in Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for Talent Acquisition Suites, per its page.
The limit: there's no price on the site, and it's sold as part of the wider suite.
Pick it if HR, payroll and finance already live in Workday.
9. iCIMS: best for large, high-volume enterprise hiring
iCIMS says more than 4,400 companies use it, including a quarter of the Fortune 500. Its AI page lists a new Sourcing Agent, candidate ranking, a career site chatbot and AI-generated interview questions.
The limit: pricing is through sales, and a 100-person company won't use most of it.
Pick it if you hire thousands a year in retail, healthcare or manufacturing. Our enterprise recruiting software list compares it with the other large suites.
10. BambooHR: best for small companies that want HR and basic hiring in one tool
BambooHR is an HR system first. Its Core plan includes hiring and onboarding: candidate records, job posting and offer letter templates, with candidate self-scheduling and 150+ integrations on its ATS page. Pricing is "per employee, per month", with a figure shown for Core. Our BambooHR pricing page explains the plans.
The limit: there are no structured scorecards or sourcing CRM like Greenhouse's.
Pick it if you hire a few people a year and HR matters more than recruiting. See Greenhouse vs BambooHR.
Which Greenhouse alternatives include AI interviews?
Greenhouse now has one. Its Voice AI runs a "two-way voice interview on the candidate's schedule", in 11 languages, sold through a demo. It is also sold on its own to companies on other ATSs.
Among the 9 ATS alternatives, the AI is mostly on paper or in chat: Workable's video add-on is one-way, SmartRecruiters and Workday use conversational AI, and Lever sells career-site screening by VONQ. Ashby, Teamtailor, iCIMS, Gem and BambooHR list no AI interviewer.
The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you sourced or imported: 10 or 20 minutes, in any of 9 languages. Candidates book their own slot without an account, and the invitation tells them the interview is run by AI. The rubric is fixed for the role and the questions adapt to each answer. You get a 1 to 5 score per criterion, overall written feedback, a weighted score out of 100, a suggested verdict, the transcript and the recording. Nothing is rejected automatically, and integrity flags are logged, not scored.
The 5-minute recording above is a live AI interview for a go-to-market role. The AI asks about an outbound email campaign, then follows up on reply rates and how leads were qualified. More on the AI interviewer page.
How much does Greenhouse cost, and what are its contract terms?
Greenhouse pricing is custom. Its pricing page lists 3 plans, Core, Plus and Pro, each behind "Get a demo", and says cost depends on the plan, "your hiring volume and organizational complexity". There is no figure for Greenhouse ATS pricing anywhere on the site. Our Greenhouse pricing guide breaks down what each plan includes and what drives a quote.
Contract terms aren't published either. The page says you can upgrade at any time but says nothing about term length, renewal notice or downgrades. G2's reviewer averages show a 9% discount and 8 months to return on investment, which tells you the price is negotiable. Before you sign or renew, ask in writing for the term, the renewal notice period and how you export your data if you leave.
The alternatives use 5 pricing models:
- Published, by company size or band: Workable, and Ashby up to 100 employees.
- Per employee per month: BambooHR.
- Starting price, then quote: SmartRecruiters.
- Quote or demo only: Lever, Teamtailor, Workday, iCIMS, and Gem by FTE count.
- Monthly plans with credits: The Cognitive.
For how these models compare across the wider market, see our ATS pricing guide.
The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans you can cancel anytime. It sits next to your ATS, so budget for it on top of whichever ATS you keep. Details on our pricing page.
How hard is it to switch off Greenhouse?
Plan for weeks of work: moving candidate and job data, rebuilding interview plans and scorecards, and reconnecting your integrations. Ashby says its connectors move data "in days, not months"; Lever quotes "weeks, not months". Treat both as the best case.
Don't cancel first. Run 1 open role through the new system for 2 weeks with the same scorecard, and ask 2 hiring managers which they prefer. Time your notice to your Greenhouse renewal, and ask Ashby whether you qualify for a contract buyout. If the real problem is a thin pipeline, connect The Cognitive to Greenhouse and run one hard role before you change ATS.
The Cognitive has a free trial with 100 sourcing credits.
Who is The Cognitive built for?
We built The Cognitive for recruiters whose hard roles need people who aren't applying. You see who matches across ~900M public profiles and read an interview report before you spend an hour on anyone. A read-only report link carries scores, written feedback and the recording to a hiring manager or client.
- Keep Greenhouse, or move to Ashby, Lever or Workable. The interview score, summary and report link land on candidates you imported from any of them.
- Pair it with Greenhouse's scorecards. Let the AI interview handle round 1 and keep your structured kits for the rounds your team runs.
Fix the pipeline before you switch ATS Run one hard role through The Cognitive next to Greenhouse and interview the people you pick, live, with AI. Start free

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best alternative to Greenhouse?
The best Greenhouse alternative depends on what you need to fix: The Cognitive if you need more good candidates, Ashby if you need a new ATS. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles and runs a live, two-way AI video interview with the people you pick, next to Greenhouse or any ATS you move to. Ashby is the closest full replacement, with ATS, CRM, scheduling and analytics in one product, and Lever and Workable are the next strongest ATS options.
What is a cheaper Greenhouse alternative for a startup?
Workable and Ashby are the cheaper Greenhouse alternatives to check first, because both show prices before a demo. Workable publishes prices by employee band with a 15-day free trial, Ashby shows a monthly price for its Foundations plan up to 100 employees, and Gem offers companies under 30 employees its All-in-One plan free for six months, then 50% off. If a startup mainly needs candidates, The Cognitive's AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans.
How much does Greenhouse cost?
Greenhouse doesn't publish a price: every plan is custom-priced after a demo. Its pricing page lists Core, Plus and Pro and says cost depends on the plan, your hiring volume and organizational complexity. G2 reviewers report an average 9% discount, so the quote is negotiable. The Cognitive, which works next to Greenhouse, publishes its prices: AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month.
Greenhouse vs Ashby vs Lever: which should I pick?
Pick Ashby for one all-in-one system with strong built-in reporting, Lever for ATS and CRM in one, and Greenhouse for structured hiring with a large integration network. Ashby is the only one of the 3 that shows a price, for companies up to 100 employees; Greenhouse and Lever sell by quote. None of them searches outside profiles for you, which is the gap The Cognitive fills for any of the 3.
Is Greenhouse worth it for a 50-person company?
Greenhouse is worth it for a 50-person company only if you hire steadily and want structured scorecards from day one. G2 reviewers average 2 months to implement it, which is heavy for a handful of hires a year. Ashby's Foundations plan and Workable show prices up front at that size, and The Cognitive can fill whichever one you choose with sourced, interviewed candidates.
Is there a Greenhouse alternative with AI sourcing?
Yes. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief and works next to whichever ATS you keep. Among ATSs, Workable's agent searches 400M+ profiles and Gem's AI Sourcing Agent searches 800M+. Ashby's AI candidate search builds filters from a typed prompt but searches people already in Ashby.
Is there a Greenhouse alternative with AI interviews?
Yes. The Cognitive runs a live, two-way AI video interview of 10 or 20 minutes, in 9 languages, and gives you a 1 to 5 score per criterion, a weighted score out of 100, the transcript and the recording. Greenhouse itself now sells Voice AI, a two-way voice interview, through a demo. Among the ATS alternatives, Workable's video interview add-on is one-way, and SmartRecruiters, Workday and Lever use conversational or career-site AI screening.
How hard is it to switch off Greenhouse?
Switching off Greenhouse takes weeks: you move candidate and job data, rebuild interview plans and scorecards, and reconnect your integrations. Ashby says its connectors migrate data in days, not months, and offers contract buyouts to companies that qualify; Lever says most customers are implemented within weeks. Run 1 role in parallel for 2 weeks before you give notice, and if the real problem is a thin pipeline, test The Cognitive next to Greenhouse first.
What are Greenhouse's contract terms?
Greenhouse doesn't publish its contract terms: the pricing page covers plans and says you can upgrade at any time, but gives no term length or renewal notice period. Ask for the term, the renewal notice and the data export process in writing before you sign or renew. The Cognitive runs on monthly plans you can cancel anytime.
