Best Workday Alternatives in 2026: 11 HCM and Recruiting Options for TA Teams

The Cognitive homepage: AI sourcing and live AI video interviews

Workday's closest rivals as an HR suite are SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM and Dayforce for large companies, and BambooHR and Rippling for smaller ones. A talent acquisition (TA) team has three choices. It can add tools on top of Workday, swap Workday Recruiting for another applicant tracking system (ATS), or move the whole human capital management (HCM) suite. Job boards and company marketing channels produced roughly 90% of applications but only about half of hires, in Gem's 2026 benchmark data (December 2025).

For sourcing-led hiring, the best Workday alternative is The Cognitive. It finds people outside Workday, emails them, interviews them by live AI video and connects to 100+ ATS, while Workday stays the system of record. SeekOut and hireEZ also score on all four steps, though their AI screening needs a custom plan or a sales demo.

Greenhouse and Ashby take over recruiting and leave Workday HCM in place. Dayforce, Oracle, SAP SuccessFactors, BambooHR and Rippling replace the suite.

The Cognitive publishes this page and appears in it.

The best Workday alternatives in 2026

These eleven options are ranked by how much of hiring each one covers for a TA team.

  1. The Cognitive: best for reaching passive candidates beside any HR suite.
  2. SeekOut: best for outside search and applicant history in one tool.
  3. hireEZ: best for AI agents that source, phone screen and schedule on top of Workday.
  4. Greenhouse: best for replacing Workday Recruiting with structured hiring and a voice AI first round.
  5. Gem: best for sourcing and CRM built to sit on Workday.
  6. Dayforce: best for one HCM suite with recruiting and AI voice interviews built in.
  7. Ashby: best for an all-in-one ATS with a two-way Workday sync.
  8. Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM: best for large enterprises that want one data model and a public price list.
  9. SAP SuccessFactors: best for SAP companies, with SmartRecruiters for hiring.
  10. BambooHR: best for smaller companies that want HR, payroll and a simple ATS.
  11. Rippling: best for HR, payroll, IT and finance in one system.

Are you replacing Workday HCM or just Workday Recruiting?

Workday homepage
Workday homepage.

Workday calls itself "The Enterprise AI Platform for HR, Finance, and IT" and says 11,500+ organizations use it. Its HCM spans HR, talent acquisition, payroll, workforce management and analytics. Its finance products are a separate decision.

Workday's Talent Acquisition Agent "automates sourcing, screening, scheduling, and candidate communication within your secure Workday environment". The skill meant to add continuous external sourcing, Pipeline & Sourcing Intelligence, still carries a "Coming Soon" label, and Workday's pages name no outside profile database. Workday closed its purchase of Paradox, the conversational AI hiring company, on October 1, 2025. Workday now pitches HiredScore, Paradox and its own recruiting module together as a single TA suite.

Staying keeps one record from candidate to employee, internal job matching and payroll in one system. Four situations decide which way to go.

Your hardest roles go to people who are not applying

Keep Workday and add a sourcing tool. In SHRM's Talent Trends 2025 survey, 69% of HR professionals reported difficulty recruiting for full-time positions over the past 12 months. The Cognitive, SeekOut, hireEZ and Gem search beyond your applicants.

Recruiters are buried in applications

Ashby's Recruiter Productivity report (April 2026) counts 291 applications per hire, up from roughly 100 in early 2021. An AI first interview takes that screen off the recruiter's calendar.

Recruiters want their own ATS, HR wants Workday

Swap Workday Recruiting and keep Workday HCM. The project depends on how positions, requisitions and new hires move between Workday and the new ATS. See Lever vs Workday and the best applicant tracking systems.

The company is smaller than Workday's usual customer, or wants a public price

Move the suite. Workday has no pricing page: the suite is quoted, and its AI agents are billed on Workday Flex Credits, bought yearly. BambooHR and Rippling charge per employee per month, and Oracle publishes a price list per hosted employee.

How were the Workday alternatives ranked?

Fifteen options were considered: seven HCM suites, two ATSs and six tools that run beside Workday. To make the list, an option must replace Workday HCM, replace Workday Recruiting, or find people Workday never sees. HireVue adds interviews but no new people, and Workday owns Paradox, so neither is ranked. UKG Pro and ADP Workforce Now could not be scored from their own sites.

One point per hiring step:

When scores tie, the first test is whether every scored step can be bought on a plan with a public price and no sales call. Next comes any price shown on the vendor's or its parent's site, then the free trial (a longer stated trial first, then a trial button with no stated length, then none), then alphabetical order. The tools were picked using feedback from recruiters the founder talks with on LinkedIn, and each was scored only on its vendor's own site and pricing page.

At 4, The Cognitive wins the first tie-break, because SeekOut and hireEZ put AI screening on a custom plan or a demo. SeekOut then beats hireEZ on trial length, 14 days to 7. At 3, Gem's self-serve Startup Program puts it ahead of Dayforce. At 1, BambooHR's free-trial button puts it ahead of Rippling.

The 11 Workday alternatives, reviewed

Each entry gives the score, what the vendor says on its own site, who it suits and how it charges.

1. The Cognitive: best for reaching passive candidates beside any HR suite

The Cognitive homepage
The Cognitive homepage.

Verdict: 4 of 4, and the one tool here that sells all four steps on public plans you can start without a sales call.

The Cognitive covers the roles Workday's applicants do not fill, with AI sourcing and a live AI interview. A recruiter types the role as a plain-English brief, adjusts the filters it turns into, and searches about 900M public profiles, each match with a short reason. Revealing a personal email costs 4 credits and a phone number 12; phone numbers come with Sourcing Pro and above.

On the Sourcing Team plan and on Sourcing Pro and above, emails go out from your own mailbox, and the sequence stops for anyone who replies. Anyone worth a first round can be sent a live two-way AI video interview. It lasts 10 or 20 minutes, runs in 9 languages, and keeps one rubric per role while the questions follow each answer. The integrations page lists the 100+ ATS it connects to.

Best for: Workday customers filling senior or niche roles that applicants rarely match.

Watch out for: Workday keeps every system-of-record job: requisitions, offers, payroll and employee files. The Cognitive cannot look inside Workday for past applicants; confirm a Workday link with its team before buying. Outreach and ATS connections sit on paid plans, not on every one; see pricing.

Pricing model: AI Sourcing and AI Interviews are bought as separate monthly plans that include credits; Enterprise is quoted. Plans start at $99 a month. Each person a search shows costs 1 credit, once; a 20-minute interview costs 100. See pricing.

2. SeekOut: best for outside search and applicant history in one tool

SeekOut homepage
SeekOut homepage.

Verdict: 4 of 4 and the nearest match on coverage, with AI screening on custom annual plans.

SeekOut calls itself "The agentic AI recruiting platform that runs on your terms" and pitches "ATS + 1B+ profiles, ranked by fit". Workday sits on its list of ATSs with "bidirectional data sync", and campaigns run as multi-step sequences.

"Our AI screener conducts video interviews with candidates," SeekOut says, adapting each question to the answers. See the SeekOut review.

Best for: sourcing teams that want to search the market and re-read old Workday applicants side by side.

Watch out for: AI screening and the ATS link are missing from Sourcing Core, the plan you can buy yourself.

Pricing model: Sourcing Core has a public price and a 14-day trial without a card; the other plans are quoted and billed yearly.

3. hireEZ: best for AI agents that source, phone screen and schedule on top of Workday

hireEZ homepage
hireEZ homepage.

Verdict: 4 of 4, with agents for nearly every step from search to scheduling.

hireEZ sells "End-to-end agentic recruiting for enterprise teams" and asks buyers to "Let agents source, review, screen and schedule". It searches "1B+ profiles across 45+ platforms" and "runs on top of your current ATS, including Workday". Outreach covers "Email, SMS, and InMail engagement".

Screening runs as AI phone interviews, "Conversational interviews that feel natural". More in the hireEZ review.

Best for: large teams retiring separate sourcing, CRM and scheduling tools.

Watch out for: AI phone screening starts with "Book a demo".

Pricing model: a solo plan with a public monthly price and a 7-day trial; enterprise deals are built around the tools it replaces.

4. Greenhouse: best for replacing Workday Recruiting with structured hiring and a voice AI first round

Greenhouse homepage
Greenhouse homepage.

Verdict: 3.5 of 4, the strongest ATS swap here.

Greenhouse sells "Sourcing, interviewing and ATS solutions in one place". Its sourcing draws on the MyGreenhouse job-seeker network, plus contact lookups and a Chrome plugin for prospecting, and Core bundles "Sourcing & CRM". Greenhouse has no profile database of its own.

Voice AI holds a spoken first interview, "Not a one-way recording, not a chatbot", and Greenhouse says Voice AI integrates with 60+ ATSs, Workday among them. See Greenhouse vs Workday.

Best for: larger companies running one structured, scorecard-based process across departments.

Watch out for: ask how positions and new hires move between Greenhouse and Workday HCM, and on which plan.

Pricing model: three tiers, Core, Plus and Pro, all quoted after a demo. More in Greenhouse pricing.

5. Gem: best for sourcing and CRM built to sit on Workday

Gem homepage
Gem homepage.

Verdict: 3 of 4, built specifically for Workday customers, with no AI interviewer.

Gem's Workday page says: "Your company chose Workday. Your recruiters choose Gem." As "an official Workday Innovation Partner", it offers a "Bi-directional Workday sync" of candidate records, stage updates and sourcing touchpoints.

Gem's sourcing reaches 800M+ profiles and sends multi-channel sequences. It books interviews automatically but does not run them with AI. See the Gem review.

Best for: recruiters on Workday who need sourcing, nurture campaigns and pipeline analytics.

Watch out for: the Workday layer is priced on request, and interviews need another tool.

Pricing model: by employee count alongside your ATS; the Startup Program, for companies of up to 100 employees, lists a price and needs no sales call.

6. Dayforce: best for one HCM suite with recruiting and AI voice interviews built in

Dayforce homepage
Dayforce homepage.

Verdict: 3 of 4, the highest-scoring full suite here.

Dayforce sells HR, payroll, workforce management and talent in one platform: "You've never seen HCM like this." Recruiting adds an ATS "built for high volume", a CRM for "prospects and past candidates", and AI sourcing across "your talent pool and beyond".

Its AI interviewer supports "early-stage screening with AI-assisted voice interviews, structured interview workflows, and reference-collection tools".

Best for: large employers replacing Workday wholesale, hiring included.

Watch out for: no outside profile database is named, and the switch is a full HR and payroll migration.

Pricing model: quote only; Dayforce has no pricing page.

7. Ashby: best for an all-in-one ATS with a two-way Workday sync

Ashby homepage
Ashby homepage.

Verdict: 2.5 of 4, the clearest Workday HCM link among the ATS swaps.

Ashby bills itself as "The all-in-one recruiting platform that evolves at the speed of AI." Its Workday integration is "API-based to allow for a flexible, bi-directional sync". Workday positions and requisitions flow into Ashby, and hires and offer letters flow back to Workday.

Outreach runs as multi-touch sequences, and sourcing relies on a Chrome extension and email lookups rather than a database. Ashby is promoting a launch event for its AI Interviewer, so it scores 0 there for now. See Ashby vs Workday.

Best for: recruiting teams that want tracking, sourcing and outreach in one product.

Watch out for: check which plan carries the Workday integration before signing.

Pricing model: by company size, usage and commitment. Foundations, for up to 100 employees, shows a monthly price; Plus and Enterprise by contact.

8. Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM: best for large enterprises that want one data model and a public price list

Oracle homepage
Oracle homepage.

Verdict: 2 of 4, level with Workday on hiring, with pricing in the open.

Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM runs HR as "one unified cloud solution, using one data model". Oracle Recruiting offers sourcing, recruitment marketing and CRM for active and passive talent, plus "two-way text and email messages".

A digital assistant answers questions and books interviews; no AI interviewer or outside profile database is named.

Best for: large enterprises that want HR, talent and payroll on one data model.

Watch out for: a 500-employee minimum, and Fusion Suite terms of 36 months or more.

Pricing model: a public price list, per hosted employee per month, with Recruiting as its own line.

9. SAP SuccessFactors: best for SAP companies, with SmartRecruiters for hiring

SAP homepage
SAP homepage.

Verdict: 1.5 of 4, a full suite whose hiring now runs on SmartRecruiters.

SAP sells "Autonomous HCM", from core HR and payroll to learning. Hiring runs on SmartRecruiters for SAP SuccessFactors, "an AI-first applicant tracking system and recruiting platform natively connected to SAP SuccessFactors".

It adds a CRM with "talent pooling, nurture campaigns", SMS, WhatsApp and email, and "AI-driven candidate matching, screening, and interview scheduling". Discovery means job ads and pools, not profile search. See Workday vs SmartRecruiters.

Best for: companies already running on SAP.

Watch out for: recruiting contracts run one to three years.

Pricing model: HCM by quote; SAP's pricing page lists SmartRecruiters per user per month and Winston AI per hire transaction.

10. BambooHR: best for smaller companies that want HR, payroll and a simple ATS

BambooHR homepage
BambooHR homepage.

Verdict: 1 of 4, a lighter HR system for companies that never needed Workday's depth.

BambooHR "brings all your employee, payroll, time, and benefit information together in one place". Applicant tracking is included, capped at 5, 25 or 50 open jobs on Core, Pro and Elite. See Workday vs BambooHR.

Best for: growing companies that want HR records, payroll and basic hiring under one login.

Watch out for: the job-opening caps; a busy TA team hits them fast.

Pricing model: per employee per month with volume discounts, a flat monthly rate at 25 employees or fewer, and quotes per plan. See BambooHR pricing.

11. Rippling: best for HR, payroll, IT and finance in one system

Rippling homepage
Rippling homepage.

Verdict: 1 of 4, an ATS bought for the rest of the platform.

Rippling puts "global HR, Payroll, IT, and Finance in one place", with an "AI-native ATS" wired in: "Approving headcount opens reqs instantly, offboarding jumpstarts backfills and signing an offer triggers onboarding." Its AI ranks which applications best fit the job.

Best for: companies that want hiring, onboarding, devices and payroll to move as one.

Watch out for: it ranks applicants but finds no one new.

Pricing model: most products per employee per month, some with a monthly base fee. See Rippling pricing.

Which Workday alternative covers hiring end to end?

The Cognitive, SeekOut and hireEZ score the full 4. The Cognitive sells all four steps on public plans and interviews by live video; SeekOut's video screener and hireEZ's phone screener come through custom plans or a demo. Each AI interview in The Cognitive ends in a scorecard against the role's rubric, beside the recording and transcript, and a person makes the hiring decision.

Deeper suite comparisons are in the best enterprise recruiting software.

When to skip The Cognitive

What should you ask before leaving or adding to Workday?

One role is enough for a test. Pick a role that has stayed open through two rounds of Workday applicants and describe it in two lines, then adjust the filters and read the first ten matches. Send two of them to the AI interview, then put their scorecards next to your normal phone screens.

The free trial lasts 7 days, asks for no card and includes 100 sourcing credits. Create a free account.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best alternative to Workday?

For sourcing-led hiring, The Cognitive is the best Workday alternative. It finds people in about 900M public profiles, emails them from your own mailbox, runs a live AI video interview and connects to 100+ ATS. To replace the HR suite itself, look at SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM or Dayforce, or BambooHR and Rippling for smaller companies.

Who are Workday's biggest competitors?

SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM, Dayforce, UKG Pro and ADP Workforce Now are Workday's main HCM competitors. Greenhouse and Ashby compete with Workday Recruiting itself.

How much does Workday cost?

Workday lists no price on its site. The suite is sold through sales, and AI agents are billed separately on Workday Flex Credits, which are bought yearly, so ask for each as its own line.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Workday?

For a smaller company, BambooHR and Rippling are the usual cheaper suites: both charge per employee per month and show how on their pricing pages. Ashby's Foundations plan, for up to 100 employees, shows a monthly price for recruiting. For sourcing and first interviews beside Workday, The Cognitive sells monthly plans. Plans start at $99 a month.

Does Workday own Paradox?

Yes. The Paradox deal closed on October 1, 2025, and Workday now sells Paradox, HiredScore and Workday Recruiting together as one talent acquisition suite.

Does Workday have AI interviews?

Workday's product pages name no AI interviewer. Its Talent Acquisition Agent sources, screens and schedules inside Workday, and Paradox screens by chat. Dayforce and Greenhouse offer AI voice interviews, SeekOut AI video screening, hireEZ AI phone interviews and The Cognitive a live two-way AI video interview.

What is the best all-in-one recruiting software to use with Workday?

The Cognitive, SeekOut and hireEZ score highest, because each covers search, outreach, an AI interview and an ATS link. Of the three, The Cognitive is the one that sells all four steps on public plans with no sales call.
