Why ZipRecruiter will not show you a price up front

ZipRecruiter's cost FAQ says its pricing is flexible and tailored to your specific hiring needs. That sentence is the whole public rate card. The plans page lists features, and the first thing its signup form asks is how many employees you have, in bands from 1 to 5 up to 3,500 and more, with separate options for recruiting firms and staffing agencies.

The billing model removes one cost you might expect. ZipRecruiter says it never limits the candidates or applications you receive, and that clicks and applies are included in your rate rather than charged one by one. You pay for slots and days, not for traffic.

That makes the job slot the unit worth understanding. ZipRecruiter says a filled job can be closed and replaced with a new role in the same slot right away, so a slot is closer to a desk you rent than a single advert.

What drives the ZipRecruiter cost for employers

ZipRecruiter does not list its pricing factors. The first 6 come from how it describes its plans and billing. The last is our reading of its signup form.

How the ZipRecruiter free trial turns into a bill

This is the sequence ZipRecruiter describes across its plans and post-a-job pages. The step that catches people is the fifth.

  1. Tell ZipRecruiter about your company The signup form opens with company size, or recruiting firm and staffing agency for agencies.
  2. Pick Standard or Premium Both carry a Try for Free button. Pro has no trial button and routes you to live chat, email or phone.
  3. Post the job ZipRecruiter sends it to 100+ job sites, including Google Jobs and niche boards, and alerts matched job seekers by text and email.
  4. Run the trial Clicks and applies are unlimited during the trial. ZipRecruiter does not state how long the trial lasts. Write the start date down the day you begin, and check the end date in your dashboard.
  5. The plan continues After the trial, ZipRecruiter says you continue with your selected plan or cancel anytime directly from your dashboard.
  6. Scale it up or down ZipRecruiter says you can increase or decrease your number of job postings at any time from the Account page.

Which one costs less for your hire

A budget board and a subscription board reward different habits. On Indeed or LinkedIn you pay as people engage, so a post that drew no interest costs little. On ZipRecruiter you pay for the slot or the day, so a busy, well written post costs the same as a dead one. Heavy, steady hiring tends to favour the slot. Occasional hiring tends to favour a budget you can stop.

Reach is the other half. ZipRecruiter's case rests on sending one post to 100+ job sites, which helps in a thin local market. If your candidates already search Indeed, you may be paying twice for the same eyes. Our ZipRecruiter vs Indeed comparison, linked below, walks through 5 hiring situations and picks one for each.

When a job post will not reach the person you need

A plain-English brief read into editable filters, then searched across ~900M public profiles.

Every job board waits for someone to apply. For a senior or specialist hire, the right person is often employed and not looking. The Cognitive searches public profiles from one line about the role, judges everyone against your must-haves and says on each card why they matched.

What sourcing costs instead of a ZipRecruiter plan

I run The Cognitive, so weigh this section with that in mind. It does not post jobs and does not replace ZipRecruiter for roles where applicants come easily. It is the route for roles where they do not, and its pricing is printed.

Credits work like this: 1 per candidate a search returns, 5 to reveal a verified email and 10 to reveal a phone number. A reveal is charged only when a value comes back. Email and SMS sequences come with the Sourcing Pro plan.

AI Sourcing starts at $49/month and AI Interview at $99/month, on monthly plans you can cancel anytime. There is also a free trial with 100 sourcing credits, and you sign up without a sales call.

Post or source: work out the cost per hire

Our method, not ZipRecruiter's. Every input is a line on your own bill or a number from your last few hires.

1. Board cost = your ZipRecruiter plan for the months the role is open, plus any Resume Database add-on and extra unlocks.

2. Board hires = hires that came from those applicants in the same period.

3. Board cost per hire = 1 / 2.

4. Sourcing cost = the sourcing plan for the same months, plus credits for searches and contact reveals.

5. Sourced hires = hires that came from people you contacted first.

6. Sourcing cost per hire = 4 / 5.

7. Run 3 and 6 per role type, not across the whole company. A board can win on warehouse roles and lose on engineering ones.

Assumptions: you can trace each hire to its channel, and the months compared had similar hiring demand.

What a contact costs when it finds nothing

A shortlist where contact details are revealed one at a time, with a No email found row beside the revealed ones.

A resume unlock on a job board buys access before you know what it returns. The Cognitive bills each reveal separately, 5 credits for an email and 10 for a phone number, and a reveal that returns nothing shows as No email found, with no charge.

On the ZipRecruiter prices you have read elsewhere

Every monthly ZipRecruiter figure printed in other pricing articles traces to a third party or a sales quote, not to ZipRecruiter. Its plans page carries no currency figure. Use those numbers as rough guesses and get your own from the dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ZipRecruiter cost?

ZipRecruiter does not publish its prices. Its plans page shows Standard, Premium and Pro with features but no figure, and its FAQ says pricing is tailored to your hiring needs, with monthly subscriptions that carry customizable job slots and pay per day options. New employers start with a free trial and see their price inside the account. Pro is arranged through ZipRecruiter's sales team. Read on ziprecruiter.com on 4 October 2026.

Is ZipRecruiter free for employers?

Only during the free trial. ZipRecruiter offers new employers a fully loaded free trial, with the job sent to 100+ job sites and unlimited clicks and applies. After the trial, ZipRecruiter says you continue with your selected plan or cancel anytime directly from your dashboard. No ZipRecruiter page we read describes a permanent free posting tier like the limited free posts Indeed and LinkedIn offer.

How long is the ZipRecruiter free trial?

ZipRecruiter does not say. None of its pricing, post-a-job or how-it-works pages state a trial length, so any number you have read elsewhere is not from ZipRecruiter. The trial applies to Standard and Premium; Pro starts through sales. Note the day you begin, check the end date in your dashboard, and cancel there if you do not want the plan to continue.

What is the ZipRecruiter cost per job post?

ZipRecruiter does not price single job posts. You buy a monthly subscription with a number of job slots, or a pay per day option. A slot is reusable: ZipRecruiter says you can close a filled job and put a new role in the same slot right away, so your real cost per post falls the more roles you push through each slot.

What is the difference between ZipRecruiter Standard, Premium and Pro?

Standard covers posting to 100+ job boards and AI that invites candidates to apply. Premium adds the Resume Database, with over 56 million resumes, and is pitched at hard-to-fill roles. Pro adds TrafficBoost for urgent jobs and integration with several applicant tracking systems. Standard and Premium have a free trial; Pro is arranged with sales. None of the 3 shows a price.

Does ZipRecruiter charge per click or per application?

No. ZipRecruiter says it never limits the candidates or applications you receive, and that unlimited clicks and applies are included in your rate, with no click or application based charges. That is the main difference from Indeed, which bills sponsored jobs on clicks or started applications, and LinkedIn, which bills promoted posts on views.

How much does the ZipRecruiter Resume Database cost?

ZipRecruiter publishes no price for it. The Resume Database comes included in many ZipRecruiter hiring plans, or can be bought as an add-on to your existing plan. You unlock a candidate to reveal their contact details, and you can add more unlocks at any time. The Premium and Pro plan cards both list it; the Standard card does not.

Are there ZipRecruiter discount codes or promo codes?

Not on ZipRecruiter's own pages. None of the pricing, post-a-job or resume database pages we read on 4 October 2026 mention a promo code or discount. The documented ways to pay less are the free trial, reusing job slots, and lowering your number of job postings from the Account page when hiring slows.

Is ZipRecruiter cheaper than Indeed?

It depends on how you hire, because the two bill differently. Indeed lets you post some jobs free and charges sponsored jobs per click or started application, so a quiet post costs little. ZipRecruiter charges for the plan, with clicks and applies unlimited, which suits steady, high volume hiring. Neither publishes a rate, so compare the quote in your ZipRecruiter dashboard with Indeed's recommended budget.

When should I source candidates instead of paying for ZipRecruiter?

When the person you need is unlikely to apply to any job board, as with senior or specialist roles. The Cognitive searches ~900M public profiles from a plain-English brief and reveals verified emails and phone numbers. Credits are 1 per candidate a search returns, 5 per email and 10 per phone, charged only when a value comes back. AI Sourcing starts at $49/month.
